you were parked on the wrong side of the road, and the cop pulled up, talked to you for 10 minutes about how cool it was, and that he was subscribed to you and then fucked off..
Chill as shit cop, knows whats up, love him.
Quite a few years ago, I used a coat hanger to hold up one of my exhaust pipes, just "to get it home", and it worked so well that I never actually "fixed" it. Nothing is as permanent as a temporary fix. Love the car!
Tell us you live in a dry state without telling us...wait. A 300 series stainless pipe clamp can rust out before the warranty up north. Even a brass coat hanger didn't last much, the steel one didn't last through a summer.

The T-bussa from the bracket was my vote before and it's my vote again.
I never thought we'd see the day a project is more than 75% finished.
Its not - no project ever gets past 80% finished. Finishing a project is like achieving the speed of light - the closer you get you need exponentially more energy
SFM's process is to never have anything 100%. I mean, it COULD be 100%, except then he adds a feature or changes a detail or backs up and starts over or builds a trailer for it or or or

The "complete disregard for these people" got me interested and made me respect this project immediately 😊
Usually not a fan of this generation Viper, but man does it look cool! It really wakes up the inner child
Only you could get stopped by a subscriber... 🤣😂🤣
If only i had not seen that from other automotive youtubers several times already..
but did the subscriber become a cop just to pull him over and tell him that hes subscriber and thats an awesome car?
@@hermanni1989 gotta watch out for those irl stream snipers
😂 The cop being a subscriber is HILARIOUS 😂
You know he did a double take on seeing that car on the road lmao.
Iconic. I cant wait for the actual hotwheels car that they are going to have to manufacture now. Good job Matt!!
SFM, YOU need to approach Hot Wheels and get that made. Start with an exclusive numbered and signed edition through your channel. Then, eventually mass produced for the public.
I'm surprised to see people hating on this build. As a gen 1 Viper owner, I love this build, even though I winced every time you cut into it. And did you effectively destroy a rare car? Kinda, but it's awesome as hell. You can love Vipers, and love this build.
People will say you've ruined the viper, but I feel like this is exactly what they made the viper for.
It's very much aligned with the spirit of the original Viper.
@@SynchronizorVideos 💯💯💯💯 this!
It definitely has a little bit of off-road batmobile vibes that I really dig
I like offroad viper taste as much as street viper
I think this build is amazing, but could you explain what you mean? What was the ethos of the viper? I vaguely remember hearing how the viper was supposed to be a supercar beater with no driver assistance, just a pure, if you fuck up it will bite you like a viper, experience
The build is looking so cool and I am glad you are happy with the shift knob!
This is a very nice made shift knob, looking very good.
Looks great, and the fact that it appears most of the knobs with shift markings are flattened at the top and Matt's looks completely rounded with gear markings makes it look even better. Awesome work. (Now I just need to get a cool car deserving of such a Gear Knob :-)
Fantastic work on the shift knob!
@Omsip123 thanks man!
@earld1403 cheers man it is a tiny bit distorted as you get away from the center but barely noticeable. I'm here when you get that car 😄
The smile on matts face in this video makes all the build worth it.
I watch a lot of car content on CZcams, but this thing is my absolute favorite project on the entire platform, hands down. I need one. I can't afford to even look at vipers, but I definitely need one.
The essence of hot rodding is taking a car you like and making it into a rediculous over-the-top neverending project that only a mother could love.
Father, not mother.
You've nailed it. It's the spirit of hot rod moving in him.
@@normdyer94 my mom would take offense to that, she taught me how to pinstripe when I was old enough to hold a brush and had me bleeding brakes or swapping an alternator by the time I was 10.

I applaud your restraint of not immediately heading out and doing some off roading.

Matt, well done on very nearly completing the Viper! You are an inspiration to "project procrastinators" everyw....(I'll finish this comment later)
a year ago, when you did the video about what project you should do next, i was personally disappointed about you choosing this one because of how absurd some of the other ones were, though i forget what i voted for.
it is beautiful. striking. unparalleled. and no matter how large of an engine, it'll take you forever to get anywhere in it because everyone's going to stop you to talk to you. well done. it's been fun being along for the ride, even up here in Anchorage.
You have to respect the rare combination of childlike wonder required to dream up such an abomination and the technical skill and engineering ability required to see it through.

He could sell millions of those!
Easy thing to mitigate further leg burning on the sliders is to do similar to the heat shield on semi stacks -
Could make a nice pattern to match the build cut into them, and stand them off ⅛-¼" from the sliders. Powder coat or paint red to bring back some of the 10ft OEM look.
Grindhard plumbing uses hexagons all the time, but this is a parts bin chrysler. Use a pentagon pattern.
I have one of those power bleeders now. Done everything from a 59' GMC to a modern volvo. They are worth their absolute weight in gold. I will never bleed brakes manually again.
This Viper is not ruined it has acended. 😂
Literally.
The fact that this is moving under it's own power and with a minimal amount of bailing wire and chewing gum is far more than I expected to see in my life time. Truly a momentous occasion. I salute you, sir. o7
The combination of a 12 year olds imagination and the skill to bring it to life, is on full display here! Wonderful project 👍🏻
This is the coolest offroad build I have ever seen on this platform
I'm amazed at how much it looks like that is *exactly* how it is meant to be... I've never seen a car changed that much in character that looks so... Right.
I like the way you cut the frame next to the headers without plugging them with anything to stop the metal shavings getting into the cylinders. That's precisely what I would have done. I now feel like I have a tiny degree of the competence and mechanical skill that you possess.

At a few points in this project questioned if this project was a remotely good idea versus just rebuilding a Viper. No more... you are a man of vision.
Absolutely fantastic.
Have you considered having the metal side skirt/ rock sliders ceramic coated? Nice durable finish and the thermal barrier properties are so good you could even go without that glass fibre wrap and still avoid burnt calves when disembarking in shorts...
It reminds me of the off-road mode the Viper could convert to on that Viper show from when I was kid…man, I loved that show. It looks awesome, great work.
the "he was a subscriber" part about the policeman got me smiling a lot mate
"All hail the algorithm" in your voice constantly runs through my head when I'm on CZcams. So, I both liked and commented to make it stop.
You make the best videos, an absolute pleasure to watch.
4:06 When you see an offroad Viper and do a super-fast one.
I love that the cop pulls over and while youre expecting the worst he just goes "Hey I follow your channel, awesome to see it finally rollin!"
They filmed that tv show "The defender" with the viper in my hometown of Vancouver. Was always in awe of that viper in off road mode and this is the closest ill get to seeing a real life viper in off road mode 😂
I don't recall a name change ever being listed for the show but it was just "Viper" in the US. I agree, it's bringing back memories of the the Defender in off road mode.
In Germany the show was called "Viper" as well (one of the few occasions (others being Knight Rider, Airwolf, Street Hawk and Highwayman, for example) they didn't try to invent a German name for it).
The offroad Defender was my favorite conversion as well. I wonder what happened to the modified car they used for filming. From what I read somewhere on the net it was a modified truck chassis (probably the easier way to build an offroad Viper, albeit it only having a V8 going that route).
okay good, for a moment there i was afraid nobody else remembered that show.
When I was at auto tech school, we had a prototype Dodge V10 there from the early Viper days. It was when they were still doing testing on stuff, hence the prototype in "punch dots" on the heads. Pretty sure they were aluminum Viper heads on the old truck V10 block. Or they were aluminum versions of the truck heads. Don't remember which. I'd have to find my pics and see what they were. It was back in 2010 so the engine was quite old at that point. Still in great condition, though, as they only used it to take apart and put back together. It was my project for "engine - mechanical" part of the course. It had to spin perfectly when you put it back together so you had to measure clearances, bearing shells, Pistons, rings, etc... It was quite fun.
When "oh man, the cops" turns into "Awww, man, a fan". Dude was probably always driving around hoping to see one of your projects out on the road.
One of the things that makes me smile so much about the idea of an off road Viper is remembering that in a game called Street Legal Racing Redline years ago I built one, it was AWD though but the thing was a monster, so if the game physics are anything vaguely similar to IRL physics, this should be a real beast off road.
Pulled over by a subscriber. Brilliant!
I think this project is a lot more than good enough. Thank you for taking us along for the ride.
I love your deadpan delivery and dry humor. Also your out-in-left-field ideas and mad skills.

The cop telling you he was a sub got you a sub. This was such and enjoyable build. Killer creativity.
Stoked. Good enough to start, run stop. Sounds great. Like the sunset view. Great shifter knob. A traffic stop by a subscriber. What a wrap! Some unfinished business.
So cool!!! congratulations on your maiden voyage, I'm looking forward to the first off-road voyage!
This is the best version of a Dodge Viper "EVER"!!! The Godzilla of all Vipers. Long live Vipezilla. Of course it will probably break on it's first excursion, but man will it be entertaining.
This is super cool. Living in northern NV with tons of dirt roads everywhere, this car would be a blast.
Seeing it near completion made one thing very clear. This needs an external roll cage. Not for roll cagey stuff, but because it would look amazing. Silly but amazing.
i had a toy viper as a kid. i lost it's targa top often. it had a front wheel drive friction motor, i liked that, made it unique.

I'm going to be honest, when you first announced this build last year, I thought I was going to hate it. Now that I've seen it driving, it's actually grown on me. I'm actually kind of excited to see this thing ripping through the dirt now.

Your deadpan delivery is so perfect! “He was a subscriber” loooool
it is a thing of beauty. I did show my wife and she shook her head, which is the sign that you did something amazing, cybertruck style.
Idk. i think it’s a crime to compare the looks of this beauty with the Cybertruck! 😝
But, yea they did both start as seemingly impossible to execute concepts, that we never really expected would/could be brought to life as envisioned. It’s incredible and inspiring that this was achieved by one person on his own in his garage. While it’s cool the Cybertruck actually got produced as is, it had the world’s richest man with deepest pockets, an entire company behind it, and many years to make happen.
Brilliant! What a great milestone. Shared - algorithm hailed... 🎉🥳
