It was a record-setting campaign for Mathieu Betts as his 18 quarterback sacks set a new single-season Canadian mark previously held by Lion legend Brent Johnson and Jamaal Westerman. Betts was the first Lion to lead the CFL in sacks since Keron Williams in 2012 while his 42 defensive tackles set a new career-high. He would be recognized for his stellar season with the CFL Most Outstanding Player Award while collecting West Division and #cfl All-Star nods for the first time in his career.

Ladies and Gentlemen... We got him!
Kid looks like he has a motor. He looks like he has grit. The kid looks like he has heart. No other city in the United States other than Detroit that is geographically North of the Canadian Border. Seems like a good fit to me. Kudos to the scouting dept in Detroit
I see why my Lions worked him out in Detroit.
I’m so happy oh my goodness him with Aiden is gonna be a movie. I’m now A BC line fan
Hes prolly just depth, but still a nice add
@@tricky5222I mean apparently he’s a top tier player in the league so that’s gotta count for something even if the nfl is tougher
His motor alone fits in with wat we do in Detroit! U don't see him giving up on any plays! See u soon I Betts ya!
I knew it! Hopefully all goes well another diamond in the mud....
Did we just hit the jackpot?... this guy is a juggernaut!
Let's see how he looks against NFL offensive linemen.
@@stephenh5944they should be able to get him used to the nfl we got the best offensive lineman
@@stephenh5944thinking the same thing these Canadian guys look weak as hell
Detroit Lions lookin at him as an additional edge ……. Might be a good find !!!
That's exactly why I'm watching this video!! 🤣😂🤣😂
Same. Whos here from Lions Syndicates video? 😅
Yup! Hard to judge this guy. The Olines are so terrible lol. @@JaredBruski
@@MisfitsKooka yeah I see a Max Crossby playstyle in him for sure though. Long legs and arms, and likes to keep his eyes on the qb. I think hell do great as long as he get trained up on the stiffer competition. Tell you what though he absolutely goes for the ball if he can on contact and thats the sign of guy who wants to win.
🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁💪💪💪💪💪💪🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘💪💯💯💯💯
This guy can bite kneecaps!
It’s good that he was already a Lion. Just joining a new pride!
Joining the OG football Lions
Really excited to see how he develops on the lions!!
Lions fans here and I approve! Lessgo LIONS!
Dude, I did not see the 2023 highlights but the 2022 highlights are just as good
Welcome to the den 💪🏻😎
I like his speed and quickness
yep yep that's what we need....he got my Betts!
That first step is wild
He has quite the toolbox of moves. That with speed and some power, I hope the Detroit Lions sign him and play him.
Spoke it to existence
Dude looks good and the Detroit Lions could use some extra edge push. Thing is that the offensive lines in this CFL league are absolutely awful so it’s really hard to tell.
Last time I checked , you weren't a defensive lineman that actually played against these 6 ft . 5. 350 pound giants.
@@Billbranch-ps1to I never played in the league no, but you can watch film just like everyone else and evaluate? When you research you see that historically CFL linemen aren’t anywhere near as quick and athletic as NFL linemen. Hence, we will end up seeing how this dude holds up at the NFL level. I hope he’s a total savage and brings the lions another weapon. How about you?…..waaaait, are you trolling me dog? Cmon are you really?
Good depth piece for detroit, although play is much tougher in the NFL I feel he has great potential
Dude has a motor that just doesn’t die. His get off is insane too.
Do you think it matters the one less down? Like does that mean he's got more gas in the tank than if he was playing in the NFL? I'm just curious.
You like to see him get off, huh?
@@Jay-yz7wmyou can tell by how he plays that it won’t matter. On top of that if because of his build I don’t think that he is an every down kind of player. Hopefully he proves me wrong but we’ll see.
@@scrapson8789that’s a really bad joke bud. Please go back to weenie hut jr’s if you’re gonna act like a child.
A buzzer beater sack is wild🤦🏾♂️
He will not see double teams at the next level…could have one heck of a year.
from the bc lions to the detroit lions welcome home
Great pick up I like his motor
WELCOME TO DETROIT BETTS ❤🎉
He so textbook 📕 🔥🔥
The nfl calls him a a LB. This dude is a pash rusher from anywhere you line him up at.
Yeah I wonder why not DE? Too big?
@@mikesoutside actually for a defensive end, at least by nfl standards, he is undersized. He is 6 foot 259 pounds. However if you watch his hiit is all pass rush from DE, DT, and even sometimes LB
@@user-oe8uv6jf8c wow…I see what you’re saying! Bosa is 266, that’s mind-blowing but makes sense
Welcome the Detroit!!! #OnePride
Welcome to the Detroit Lions :)
Need to sign him opposite Aiden asap!!
Hutch, Betts,’HOUSTON!! Dayum….’
I know it's Canadian football, but anybody who puts up 18 sacks in a ”professional” setting with his speed and tenacity is worth a try. At least on the practice squad. Go scoop him up.
66 on Winnipeg needs to be job searching
Yeah... 3 time Grey Cup champion Stanley Bryant, of course he needs to find the job.
Come on Detroit this guys a Wrecking BALL!!
unlikely he ever plays a single snap. Never happens where CFL stat comes to NFL in his last 20's and makes an impact
@@arthurfonzarelli9828 Happened with warren moon cameron wake etc. its possible.
Betts and hutch could be good👀
He may be signing a future reserve contract with the Detroit Lions, it’s not official. After watching his highlights, he does has speed, grit, and high motor. Will it translate against NFL offensive line?
I hope it does translate! These offensive lines don't looks that great! But this guy has alot of PROMISE that's for sure! I'm sure Terrell Williams will get him to where he needs to be
Super Bowl is down so it’s actually a free agent signing, at the very least he can get a shot and be a backup at the most… we’ll see
Welcome to Detroit !!!!
Fro. The lions to the lions haha
Hutch and him could be a good combo.
He’s out there punishing QBs 😳 so excited to see him play for Detroit!
We could use some of that speed off the edge
CFL is awesome! NFL is the standard but little brother ain’t bad. The rules are better with double motions and wider field!
I look at him like Houston with the same motor as Hutch …… well worth a tryout at the least
Can this translate in the nfl these tackles look like they are moving in quick sand
Pack your bags Wildman Lions fans are sending you a plane ticket!!!
Great call.
Hope he makes the roster
He’s fast
Am l seeing what im seeing??? he's blowing up guys 6'8, 6'9" 350 #s +
I like him but as a lions fan i hope he makes the team kind of reminds me of houston can get around the edge but I think he might be a better fit in the middle and have houston next to him that would be one hell of a combo with hutch and mcneil on the other side. We will see how he does against the big boys of the NFL Go Lions.
#GoLions
goat
They're double teaming him but it doesn't matter he's still making plays.
Detroit Lions here we come
Lions just signed him
Some of them O lineman were trash but all in all he looks the part. Hopefully he can make the 53
Super quick off the line. I like the signing.
That boy get off is crazy
Let Brad Holmes Cook
cfl is a lot slower ... lets see if hes quicker up in the nfl
He's can make it as a depth player if he bulks up a bit.
Semi-serious question, is it the Meter Line? Because i wouldn't be opposed to that 😇
No. Canadian Football use yards and inches, just like American Football.
@teo_heel it certainly appeared so to me, didn't seem the lines were farther apart
@@DukeofGames50 Maybe they use "canadian" yards... just kidding. Maybe it's because the field is bigger? 65 yards wide and 150 yards long with 20 yards deep end zones (with exception of BMO Field in Toronto, that has 146 yards long field with 18 yards deep end zones and Percival Molson Memorial Stadium in Montreal, that have running track that doesn't allow for the full rectangular 20 yards deep end zone, it has cut corners instead). So yeah... Canadian Football is bigger... 12 players on each side, bigger field... less downs to not make it too easy.
@@teo_heel no I meant I saw no difference from a USA field line
@@DukeofGames50 sorry... I misunderstood you. My bad.
most plays not even blocked
this is the CFL big difference.
Very true. But his speed and tenacity can be seen, and he's got a nose for disrupting the ball. This is at least fun to talk about - unlike our dark days/months/years/decades. onepride
Mad max 2.0 ?
Seems good but we'll see if it translates to the NFL. Much better talent in the NFL.
I mean the level of o line play is way bigger better and faster at the NFL level but ya never know
Agreed but if he can even be half as effective as this he would be a good addition for Detroit
Went from a Lion to a Lion?
Did he get picked up by Detroit yet ?
Let’s be honest, the OLinemen in these clips just flat out suck. A lot of them are more like fat tight ends and way too small to make it in the NFL. Several of the sacks came on snaps where the tackle was slow to react, borderline lazy like they snapped the ball until MB was already past him. But MB has a WICKED fast getoff at the line of scrimmage that is very James Houston-esque. If he can learn to play OLB, he could even be utilized how Dallas was deploying Micah Parsons before Parsons switched to a full time DE. Great low risk, high upside find by Detroit
Sewell and Decker will show him if he's ready or not, just like how they showed Martin he wasn't. We will have to see
@@DukeofGames50 true. Although, we already knew Martin wasn’t ready when we drafted him. Martin was essentially a draft and stash, with hope placed on his coach ability and long term upside. The aim with Mathieu Betts is that he can contribute now, even if in a situational, 1-dimensional role like James Houston. Otherwise might as well take a flier on a late round pick or UDFA who’s 6-7 years younger
Practice squad at best
The man won’t see that kind of OL play on the worst of NFL teams.
