I am really enjoying your videos. I am no carpenter by any means- but I had to make a repair to my siding last week much like you just did. I used my multi tool with a dual metal/wood blade and used it to score the siding and cut underneath the seams as well- was able to cut the nails with it as well as break the bonds from the paint/caulk. It made it really easy to remove. I was able to pull out the cut nails after after I removed the plank very easily. Just an idea.. I am really nobody to be giving advice on this though.

Who's lazy like me and would just try to make the crack less noticeable with wood filler (or caulk) & touch up paint?
No paint on the cut side?
Why would not have used auto body filler to repair that split?

Would this work with cement board siding?
exact same concept, except cement board is more fragile when old and is more difficult to cut. Also tend to need a larger nail
