      Thanks my friend, to be honest this was the first time I used a Cabinet specific waterborne paint but I really like it. I’ve been using this dry roll method for a good 10 years and it works well with any latex paint. I hope this gallery series proves to have longevity because I am painting my kitchen very soon with it. Do you have a great day!

      Thank you Shirley, I know exactly what you mean. I learned how to do construction when I was in my early 20s. I have always fixed everything on my home because I did not have the money to pay someone and now it’s a matter of pride lol. I just like doing things myself. I purchased all my tools from pawnshops until I could afford to buy new ones. My boys tease me and tell me that I have more tools in Home Depot. I realized early on that I could spend $250 on a tool and do it myself or I could spend $500 on someone to do it for me. please do me a big favor and go to paulstoolbox.com. I used the "roll & tip" method to paint my flat-sided camping trailer, using Interlux Brightsides 1-part polyurethane paint. It came out smooth. Long used in painting boats. The paint "self-levels". I didn't get runs on horizontal surfaces if I ended with diagonal swipes. I used a 9" foam roller, following it by a swipe of a dense foam brush, held at 45 deg to "pop the bubbles". Some have used that method to paint cars, but it is tricky to avoid runs on corners and body lines since they rub excess paint out of the roller. This paint appears to similarly self-level, and being water-based makes clean-up cheap and easy. Don't work the paint too long or it will start chattering the brush as the solvents evaporate.

    Great Paul to see you doing well and keep up the positive attitude!
    I do have two questions though with the cabinet painting.
    1- Did you use a primer on your existing cabinet doors before using the color paint?
    2- Is there a time with the dry rolling that you feel you need to change and use a new roller?
    I have 18 cabinet doors and of course the facials and the sides of the cabinets so just trying to get an idea before starting.

    • @paulstoolbox
      @paulstoolbox  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Good morning Rose Marie, I recommend cleaning them with alcohol, scuffing them then priming them before painting. I like to use Rustoleum spray primer. When painting the inside cabinets, you can do the same procedure, but I usually dry roll a water-based primer... Bullseye Zinser 123 or Kiltz 2. I keep several rollers handy with a small bucket of water. I can usually do numerous doors before trading them out. I will put it in water and use a new one. The micro fiber rollers are very reasonable on Amazon.Thanks, and good luck. I'm sorry I missed your comment, I must not have hit the reply button because I remember writing to you.

      Good morning Pete, I love to see people use my tips in a useful way! One of my gates started to sag just a little bit on the left side of my house and I was shocked because I did it several years back with no problems. I open the gate all the time and it has a lot of leaves in that area so when it storms they pile up on the gate. The lag bolts had too much pressure from me pushing the gate open with the leaves. It turned out the 2x4’s were starting to wear from the lag bolts pulling, so I drilled them out and put threaded bolts with nuts through it. Solid is a rock again. Have a great day Pete and thanks!

    Paul... I have been painting cabinets for decades and have a similar but I'll call it a reverse method. I roll the paint on the cabinet doors first , then quickly and lightly 'back-brush ' it with high quality brushes. I like the finish better that way. I too was forced to do this because many paints today have very quick flash times.
    For years I preferred and used oil based paints because I just think they are better. My go to paint was Benjamin Moore Stain Impervo....but by accident I bought a gallon of it that was 'Low VOC' and it was very difficult to use because it flash dried so fast.
    Now I am using Behr 'Urethane' Cabinet paint and I love it. It is very easy to work with and I have more 'wet time.' That said there are several great options out there today I think that will work great....as you know the end product is the amount of time and care you use in the 'prep phase' plus your 'touch' in the final coat.
    Glad to see you back and healthy.

      Not dipping the roller?

    • @paulstoolbox
      @paulstoolbox  Před 3 měsíci

      @@M5PaintCrew I'm sorry I missed your question. Yes, you apply your paint with a brush and then use a dry roller to flatten out the brush strokes. You use the same roller until the paint starts to dry on the roller. Do not apply the paint thick with the brush, it's better to apply a couple of thin coats rather than 1 thick coat. Thanks!

      Thanks William, I am painting my bathroom right now with Sherwinn Williams flat Emerald paint. What I like about it is the fact that it is totally scrubbable and easily touched up. I don’t deal with Sherwin-Williams but I really like their paint. It’s obvious they’re proud of their paint because it is not cheap. I wish their prices were a little lower, but it is what it is.

    • @paulstoolbox
      @paulstoolbox  Před 6 měsíci

      Good morning, I don’t know if it will take the
      stain off of your cabinet, but I can tell you that Greased Lightning will take hair dye and ink out of your clothes and sometimes hard surfaces like that. It’s a great cleaner that I use all the time. You can find it on Amazon. I use it along with Crocodile wipes, they can be found at many Orgill supplied Hardware stores, Home Depot and Amazon. You won’t be disappointed in their uses. I’m not trying to talk you out of painting your cabinets over because I love to change things up myself, but it could save you a lot of time lol.

    • @paulstoolbox
      @paulstoolbox  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hello Paula, how have you been? No need to worry about me, I will beat this again. This is just a stumbling block. I use the Emerald paint on my walls because I love to have a scrubbable flat paint. If you are looking to match the factory look, the gallery is an awesome choice . So far I think it’s pretty darn durable, the only thing is it’s new and I have not had time to test the longevity of it. All in all Sherwin-Williams has very good paint. Of course they’re proud of it and they show that in the price lol……Gallery cost more than double that of Emerald paint. It is always good to hear from you and thank you for your prayers. Have a wonderful day! PS. Thank you for participating in the drawing!

      WOW that's a HUGE Kitchen and a lot of work! I really like the finish and durability of Behr paint, but I find it can be challenging to apply. It tends to run easier than other paints and it has to be completely dry before re-coating or it will pull and not give a smooth finish. I haven't Dry-Rolled Behr, but I will try so I give the best possible advice. What color did you use? Thank you and God Bless!

    Where's the prep before applying the paint ? Like degreasing and primer ?

    • @paulstoolbox
      @paulstoolbox  Před 6 měsíci

      I usually prep my pieces by wiping them down with 91% or denatured alcohol. You can scuff the piece prior to painting with 320 grit sandpaper, or the steel wool that I showed in the video. If you scuff it, you will not have to prime your doors but if you choose to use primer, I like to use rustoleum gray primer in the spray can. This paint bonds really well. Thanks and have a great day!
