Working Structure Fire Lakewood New Jersey 5/17/24

  • Ocean County - 447 Ridge Ave - Working Structure Fire - Lakewood
    Around 2:30PM Lakewood Township received a phone call for a reported structure fire the caller stated the house was on fire and hung up. Upon arrival of first units they confirmed a smoke condition from the first floor and roof. Crews entered and began to search for the fire, after a few minutes of searching they deemed the fire on the third floor. E-5 stretched a 1.3/4 line inside the house for fire attack. Crews did a primary on all floors and it was negative. Next due engine also secured a water supply and stretched another line into the home. The fire was placed under control shortly after. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is under investigation by the Ocean County Fire Marshals.
    Units responded from Howell, Jackson and Lakewood.

      This is pretty much a full video, not much happening at this fire, I was forced to very far back in a crowd of people couldn’t move around.

      Thing is, there are no solar panels on the other side of the roof where they could have easily ventilated without having to completely destroy those new windows.

    I wonder how the homeowner feels about the chief using the aerial device to break out the windows, but then other members walk up and open the other windows by hand.

      Especially being the Chief of the Dept..... should know better caused a lot of unnecessary damage money wise lots of labor to replace that window

      @@ado-yz9rbyea typically we reserve maneuvers like that when access to the windows are nearly impossible.. not when there’s a small electrical fire that can be put out with a portable extinguisher

    Well we don’t see that often, using the ladder to take out a window . Especially when they haven’t found the seat of the fire yet . I’m curious if this department has thermal imaging cameras? They could have found the fire right away

      Disproportional frequency of fires on houses with solar panels. Those solar power systems are likely dangerous. Just not worth it.

    The CHIEF OF DEPARTMENT: Let's destroy the window with the ladder, is a small amount of smoke on the roof. Nobody go to the roof! We wait until we will have a big fire! We have to show all our equippments. You fools we are on CZcams , move around the house to be filmed!

    Using the tip of an aerial ladder with lights on it to vent a window without knowing where the fire is is dumb. Just because FDNY does it doesn't mean you should.

    I don't know what fool used the aerial to try and bust out a window, but they need to go back to the fire academy. (If they ever went in the first place)
    There was ZERO reason to do that.

      Why there was limited manpower at the time. Everyone inside operating with very low visibility hard to find the fire.

      Smashing windows is always a bad idea when simply opening is als an option. Broken glass is dangerous for the crews.
