  • Hello CZcamsrs.
In this short video I would like to share with you a few tips how to achieve pin sharp photos using auto-focus tracking on a DSLR or Mirrorless camera. Auto-focus can fail as well especially in certain situations when you should know what to do and you you don`t. So here are a few tips to get the sharpest possible photos with auto-focus tracking in a fast moving environment like a football match or any type of sport event .In some situations you will get in difficulty even with the most modern and sophisticated auto-focus system. That`s why you have to learn and understand your camera as much as possible to avoid these situations. In this video I will talk about a few tips I always apply when I shoot at rugby matches.

Good continuous focus requires two aspects, acquisition and tracking. Some camera/lens combinations aquire focus really quickly and accurately but loose track as a subject moves. This is where regular DSLRs fail against mirrorless systems that employ vastly more AF points across the sensor. Once the subject moves out of the focus area groups the camera is unable to continue to track the subject anymore. In my experience so long as my DSLRs have the subject within the ( limited ) AF area they generally tend to track very well indeed and rarely drift. Fujifilm has the right idea, their system allows you to specify the type of focusing you are likely to encounter ( sudden movement or ignoring obstacles, etc ). This is good and bad in equal measure however as it requires the user to make that choice. Those just spraying and praying might find themselves disappointed by the results but of course the error is theirs and not the camera 😊

Thank you Mr Attila for your tips. One question how much is focus tracking of camera affected by focusing motor in the lens and ability of the lens to acquire focus quickly. I mean you can have the best camera with great AF but then again paired with slow lens you won't be able to get clean shots.

Milorad Karavidin absolutely correct. You have to choose a faster lens for the best results. When I say faster I mean faster focusing.
