    Horsepower in Crosstrek 2018 is 152HP , competitors in the same segment have less. Mazda CX3 146HP , Honda HRV 141HP

      CX3 0-60 is 8.1 seconds. Leaves the Turtletrek way behind.

    I own a 2013 and 2016 Crosstrek - both cars have been great (traded in a BMW328i and Jeep Cherokee respectively for these cars). The CVT in the 2016 is a bit smoother with faster pick-up in the lower gears - it also has better seats than the 2013. I have had no trouble merging onto highways and I bought these cars knowing I was not planning to drag race or speed anywhere. 34+ mpg in both cars on decent runs and the 4 wheel drive has been put to the test a number of times in icy/slushy weather. No issues with service or maintenance - local dealer in NC has been excellent. Extremely functional and ultra reliable cars - will take that any day of the week.

      mrThree5two//Me and my husband are interested in either the 2018 Nissan Rogue Sport (called Qashqai outside theStates),2018 Subaru Crosstrek or Mitsubishi RVR. We watched a lot of reviews on You Tube and eliminated the RVR because the base engine seem to lack power and the steering feel is not good....so we are now leaning toward the new 2018 Crosstrek because of things like ground clearance and the improvements on new model. Before we make final decision we would like to know how solid it feels on bumpy roads (my 5 last vehicles were 4 Dodge Caravan and Chrysler Dynasty with lots of rattles+unreliable) and if Crosstreks have 1- Doughnut Spare tire,
      2-Full Size Spare Tire, 3-Inflator Kit, 4-No Spare or Inflator Kit ??? Thanks in advance for the answers.

    • @mrThree5two
      @mrThree5two Před 7 lety +1

      Chantal - the 2016 has a "doughnut/thin' spare tyre (never had to use it touch wood) and I believe the Crosstrek hybrid version does not have a spare tyre (presumably because it needs battery space). Much smoother ride in the 2016 Crosstrek (vs. my 2013) and I actually think it's quite peppy/responsive (depends on what you are used to driving). Have rented a Nissan Rogue while traveling for business and it was ok but I've never had much luck with that brand (poor brakes and leaks). I would give the new Mazda CX5 a serious look - that was the car that I compared the Crosstrek to when shopping around - really liked it but wife preferred the Subaru. Many of our friends have Subaru Outbacks or Foresters and love them. Don't know anything about the Mitsubishi. Good luck with the test drives !

      The new gen feels much cushier than gen 1. It rides more like an SUV (Forester) now. Also worth mentioning the reduction in road noise. Very comfortable vehicle.

    Enthusiasts want the manual transmission in the top package. People don't buy the manual to save money. I don't understand why all the manufacturers do that.

    • @TucsonDude
      @TucsonDude Před 7 lety

      You'd probably get a double discount on the 2017 (like I did) as it's not only a year older, but not the latest and greatest. The differences are so small, the 2018 may not be worth it. Plus, the direct injection may give problems down the road with head coking.

      The parts for the 2018 Crosstrek are not net in my system so I cannot answer that with 100% certainty. However, having looked at the car, the back ends are entirely different so I do not think that it would fit.

    We have a new Crosstrek and after two months of driving it in LA, we're dumping it. The power plant is insanely weak, cropped even more by the transmission. It's borderline horrible as a road car, mainly due to the lack of power. I'm a BIG fan of Subaru and we had everything from Forester XT to a Tribeca, Legacy GT and Outback. But with a real world 0-60 of 10 seconds, the Crosstrek can't keep pace. Set up the adaptive cruise and when the traffic slows, then resumes, the poor Crosstrek cannot easily catch the rest of the traffic. This is a solid commuter car, especially if you need AWD, but that's about it. We drove it out to the Mojave desert a few days ago and it was pretty bad. Posting this at the top as well. Test drive Crosstrek on a big highway before deciding if you can live with it. We found the lack of power is borderline dangerous.

    • @TucsonDude
      @TucsonDude Před 7 lety

      I agree. With the manual, it's not too bad...as long as you slip the clutch a bit from a stop. I just use my Crosstrek for hauling bikes, rough roads and taking cross country trips. Around town, I use a sportier car. Keep us posted what you end up buying.

      Why'd you buy it if you don't like the power? Didn't you figure it out on the test drive?
      PS: I just drove my 72 VW Bug today. 0-60 in around 18 seconds. I'm not complaining :)

      Maybe you are expecting driving a wrx or forester. I have 2016 crosstrek and Im not complaining. I drove it in a long rocky road and drift in snow with no issues. Had a good handling of 900 miles trip from NY to Niagra back and fort with no issues. I still enjoy it and will buy a 2018 this month due to new looks in and out with additional everyday driving power. Sorry😂

    • @robertbrody4032
      @robertbrody4032 Před 7 lety

      I've owned a Outback, Forester XT, Legacy GT and Tribeca. The Crosstrek was unable to keep pace with traffic. Using the adaptive cruise wasn't even possible because after any slow-down, there wasn't enough to accelerate with the other cars. We observed this again and again and the engine worked VERY hard on grades as well, especially with more than 2 people in the car. My father is 77 and he agreed that it's terribly underpowered and this has been mentioned in MANY reviews (I can give links). I see a lot of good uses for the Crosstrek, but I wouldn't recommend it to most people. Cars that literally can't get out of their own way are not a good thing. There are times when you need a car, especially a smaller one, to scurry clear of a situation and the Crosstrek can't do it.

      1. The Crosstrek isn't a performance car. If you want quicker acceleration, get a WRX. 2. The HP is adequate for a car of its size. A Honda Civic (non-turbo) sedan puts out 158 hp.

      WRX and STI are great quick cars from Subaru. They need to up the HP because the CVT transmissions kill acceleration.
