      @@ballons789 Look for the "Instant OS" in the IAP 325 listings, for controller less setup. Ask the vendor if you are not sure about it.
      IMO, controller-less setup is the way to go for a small site (5-6 APs).
      There's no licence fee requirement to get the "factory" firmware. On the admin page there's an option to query for factory updates. Be aware that factory updates are not often as paid "licensed" support. HTH

    Thank you again for a very helpful video. Regarding fast roaming settings at 17:40, I’ve read various descriptions. But for home use, I think 802.11k may be more helpful than 802.11v. ‘11k’ lets the client choose the access point after being educated by the ‘neighbor report’. ‘11v’ is a lot about the access point steering clients, including dropping weak connecting clients.

    Hi Rocky, I'm looking at the AP22 but I'd like to know it it's possible to setup VLANs to segment device types with it or if I need to use a switch. You showed a screen with Client VLAN assignment but I'm not sure if that can all be done on the AP or if it needs a switch. Alternatively, when you create separate SSIDs does that really segment all traffic like a VLAN or is it just in name only and doesn't really offer any security befits? Thanks!!!

    • @RockyN
      @RockyN  Před 2 lety

      Instant On APs are configured differently from the IAPs I showed in the video. They come with a cloud management account. They do support vlans, which would separate traffic, but you would then need a switch that has those same vlans and then a device (router) to route the vlan traffic to where it needs to go. www.arubainstanton.com/files/Aruba_Instant_On_Deployment_Guide.pdf
      The SSIDs can be set up on different vlans.

We have Enginus units up for about 9 years and they are all failing one by one. All our client's are aware that these units are wide open and told not to use them for personal stuff. With 600 slips a password would be a pure nightmare for us. If this 570 unit works as advertised we will install 10 or fifteen on seperate fiber networks that are client use only. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      I'd recommend contacting a local or national Aruba reseller for help with your project. The Instant APs would work by setting up an open SSID network that does not require a password to connect. One of the new features is called "Enhanced Open" and if the client supports it, it will encrypt the traffic. Search CZcams for this video "Aruba WPA3: The New Standard for Wi Fi Security", start it at 3:25. Hold it down for 7-10 seconds until you see it flash several times quickly, then release and let it reboot. The full boot process does take about five minutes. I followed this configuration with an AP-505, however I am getting very poor speeds for a WiFi 6 AP (100-300mpbs). Any ideas?

    • @RockyN
      @RockyN  Před 3 lety +2

      Yes, the real speed comes from bonding radio channels together for higher throughput. Channels are 20/40/80/160. In 5Ghz frequency there are 24 x 20Mhz channels, to get 40 Mhz you combine 2 x 20 MHz channels this makes 12 x 40 MHz , or 4 x 20 MHz to get 80 MHz, making 6 x 80 MHz available. WiFi is a shared media and so anytime two devices devices broadcast at the same time this causes rebroadcast, or contention in the air. This slows down everything. The challenge is where you live in a neighborhood or apartment there can be a lot of other wireless networks trying to use those same channels. Using 80 MHz channels conflicts with a lot of other people’s networks and can slow you and them down. Your device needs to support it as well. You turn on 80 MHz channels under the Radio>ARM settings. Give it a try and see if improves things for you.

    • @KevinButzen
      @KevinButzen Před 3 lety

      @@RockyN I am definitely getting better performance with the 80 MHz turned on. I did an iperf test from my iPhone 12 to a VM and got around 570mbps. I purchased this AP-505 as a test to see if it would be a good fit to replace my current setup, which is 3 Unifi AP AC Lites. They have been pretty decent APs for the 2+ years I've had them but I'm ready for an upgrade and decided to go with Aruba. I like the AP-505, but I'm not sure if I should go with the 505 or 515. My current APs typically have around 10 clients per AP, many of which roam around. Do you think 515 is overkill for home use? Would there be an advantage of the 4x4 MIMO?

    • @RockyN
      @RockyN  Před 3 lety

      @@KevinButzen I don't like wasting money, so there are few things to consider, in no particular order. AP505 is a 2x2:2 vs the AP515 is a 4x4:4 on 5ghz. Most clients are 1 or 2 radios typically, so for a home environment, not a ton of devices, it may not matter much. AP505 can easily be supported by 15W PoE vs the AP515. List price difference 695 vs $1,095. The last consideration is WiFi 6e that is due out this year. If this is a big purchase, you may want to wait 6-9 months for all the new WiFi 6e APs to come out. These will add a third set of radios that use the 6Ghz radio frequency and more than double the bandwidth. So you can easily do 80Mhz and 160 Mhz channels which will mean really fast wifi. Good luck!

    Can we configure Instant on Unified AP (AP303, AP203,...)??

    • @RockyN
      @RockyN  Před 2 lety

      Older APs were not universal APs. They were either loaded with Instant AP (IAP) or Controller AP (CAP) firmware and were sold as such. An IAP could be converted to a CAP, but you could not previously convert a CAP to an IAP. This has recently changed with the coming release of AOS10. A CAP managed by an AOS 8.6 controller can now be converted to an IAP. This requires the Mobility Controller to have a license for that AP and from the CLI can issue commands to convert it. community.arubanetworks.com/community-home/digestviewer/viewthread?MID=32849 So if you buy a used AP100/AP200 series AP from ebay or something, make sure it is already an IAP.

      This demo is for the Aruba Instant AP. Instant-ON is the Aruba cloud platform for SMB with a special set of products.

    how about, if i've 2 AP?

    • @RockyN

      If you have two APs and they are running the same level of instant firmware, they will form a virtual controller (VC) or cluster. This will allow you to manage them as one.

      Can you login to the mgmt interface? Any hidden SSID will be listed there and you can delete it or change the password for it

      @@RockyN is it possible that it only shows this setmeup wifi when you connect it via POE? I don't have it here, using a 12v adapter

    • @RockyN
      @RockyN  Před 4 měsíci

      @@jeandubois-lt6rd The setmeup SSID is the default SSID it broadcasts in a default state. Depending on the firmware version, login would be admin/admin or admin/serial number. From there you can follow the instructions in this video to set it up. You can reset the unit by using a paper clip and holding the reset button on the back of the AP for ten seconds after powering it on. This will get the AP in a factory default state.
