Just a FYI: As of 2021, Alcatel Mobility switch and access point all use the same interface as Aruba. This video helped me set up a a new Alcatel AP

Great Videos! For failover to work, do both controllers need to pretty much be a replica of each other? Or can they be configured differently but be also be setup as failovers for each other?

Awesome Videos THX - just a note why your L3 Mobility possibly didn't work the 1st time was no "write mem" on master after configuration was set. Hence the Master didn't push/save the config to the locals.
Also HA Fast Failover appears to be instantaneous (no longer than 2 to 6 seconds) when using VRRP IPs with Sync enabled between them, can't recall exact settings of hand .....

Thanks for the feedback on the video, I'll double check the L3 Mobility thing. In my own personal testing, both in lab and in actual practice, the APs themselves failover to the standby controller very quickly with HA Lite, more in line with the 2-6 seconds you mention. But I've seen end-user service disruptions much "slower" than that, as exemplified by the 14 second loss of pings in this video, as well as a similar result at work where I tested failover while on a live video call and measured disruption to be about the same. But, sometimes it is as low as a 4 second disruption.

hi, I have one question. You are doing most of the stuff on MC2 as per previous video MC2 is standby why you are not doing all this on MC1. Please correct if i am wrong.

You are correct, and I never even noticed. You will see that I used the hostname "mcvip" to log onto the controllers, which maps to 10.0.10.4, the VRRP address of the two controllers. Since I recommend never pre-empting for reasons I discuss in the master redundancy video, I probably had failover to MC2 without noticing or remembering, and never failed-back. In practice, it doesn't matter which controller is the active master controller, because the controller pair should be identical hardware.

Uptime and bandwidth can be seen either from either the controller dashboard or through Airwave. Airwave will also retain historical data so you can see bandwidth over time. For CPU and memory, I'm not sure off hand, so I would either try to find that in the documentation or use the good ole Google.

No, you can’t convert an AP to an IAP (only the reverse, IAP to AP).
