This video is provided as an overview and for historical purposes rather than step-by-step navigation instructions. Trail conditions can change at any time. Contact the Bureau of Land Management or the Forest Service for current conditions. OverlandTrax recommends using a GPS device (Not your smartphone) along with GPS tracks from professional trail guide services. We also suggest taking detailed paper maps just in case your digital navigation fails. As with any adventure, conditions can change dramatically. Please check conditions before attempting a trail and be ready to turn back if conditions are not favorable.

My son and I just did this trail yesterday and it was awesome.
Awesome! Thank you for the comment!
It looks like a great place to take a day trip. It was so pretty out there~ I love how you add the maps of where you are when you post the video. Love the image at 6:00!!
Glad to hear you enjoyed the video, it was beautiful up there for sure!
nice, thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for posting, will put it on the list of trails for our September 2019 trip. So many to see!
Right? so many trails to explore. Thanks for watching!
That looks like an awesome trail. I can't wait to get back out to Colorado
Thanks! It was a pretty chill ride to the top, wish I had time to relax and enjoy it more
@@OverlandTrax how long did it take.
@@SirWilliamGoes Depends on your driving style, took me about 3 hours round trip since I was taking photos and video.
Looks like a great trail! I really like this format for your videos.
Thank you! It's taken a little time to figure out a good format, the first ones were a little rough lol
Looks like a nice peaceful place.✌️
It was!
Great video, my man. I'm heading up there in a couple weeks.
Thanks! Hope you have a great trip!
Excellant video and beautiful location! I’m kicking myself because we just returned home from camping a week at the Anvil campground and passed this trail up which is just down the road. Although it’s not as good as actually being there, thanks for bringing it to us through video!
My pleasure, glad you liked it!
Been there, done that! Clear lake trail is very easy, and the views are amazing! Nice job on the video.
Agreed, great place; thanks for watching!
You think I could get down there with a front wheel drive vehicle and an added 2-in clearance to an already 7-in clearance total of nine in July?
@@c976061 This is not a technical trail. It's not for the faint, as there are very narrow spots, unforgiving if you make a mistake, and I'm sure this has been exacerbated since the fire. A wonderful place to visit. This is one of those spots where the Maker shows you how awesome He is! If you have true 9 inches of clearance, I think you'll probably be fine. I would be more worried about the power all around. Narrow spots at the bottom, and again at the top. Many places to turn around along the way. I cannot recommend this trail for your daily driver with over-size tires.
Excellent excellent video!
Thank you, more to come!
Gorgeous trail! Could a 2wd F-150 with off-road tires and locking rear diff make it?
Thanks for watching! It is possible if the trail conditions are favorable (no rain or snow), but I do not recommend it.
loved the video. I'll be heading to Clear Lake this September. How did you make the map that shows your progress on the trail?
Awesome video. I'm glad I was able to see the trail conditions. What month did you go? I'm planning going there mid july. I wanna photograph the wildflowers.
Thank you! This footage was taken in late June of last year
Thank you for the video. That is a very nice trail. Do you know they if primitive camping is allowed up there?
Thanks for watching! I don't recall any camping spots along the trail or above treeline. However, in the valley there is some official and dispersed camping spots
Wondering If you would help me plan a couple day trips. I will be in Gunnison and looking to do some off roading with my boys and wife in my LX 570. (LandCruiser) would love to end up in Telluride. Mostly just want to share with them the coolest landmarks and views without putting us in a dangerous situation. I can drive and handle the roads I’ve watched. Biggest problem so far is a good map Guide showing the actual pass trails. So far your videos are best!
I've been collecting GPS tracks for years now, but it's a little overwhelming to sort through and has become unmanageable. As far as hard copies go, I recommend checking out funtreks.com; they have one of the easiest formats to plan with. Free online resources worth checking out are www.trailsoffroad.com, trails.colorado.gov, staythetrail.org, and www.fs.usda.gov; there are also some subscription based resources like traildamage.com. Helpful apps worth checking out are www.avenzamaps.com, MAPS.ME, iOverlander to name a few. Probably the most important thing is to check if the passes are open before you go at bushducks.com. Hope this helps!
OverlandTrax funtreks has been great. Is that your LC in some of the pictures in Funtreks?
@@leenestle Good to hear! Yes, we teamed up for a season awhile back.
Nice! We camped on that road below Clear Lake this summer. I wanted to go up but was told it might be too tight for my Ram 2500 Power Wagon wheelbase. It didn't look that bad in your video. Think the truck could make all the switchbacks?
Thanks! I would rate this trail at the top end of easy/low end of moderate, there were a few trucks at the top that seemed to be stock. However, long wheelbase would definitely make me hesitant on the switchbacks above tree line.
Mind commenting on the difficulty? I have a fairly stock 07 tucson and wonder about some of the steeper switchbacks. Cheers.
The switchbacks can make you feel a little uneasy. In ideal conditions, it's on the low side of moderate and recommend at least an AWD for traction; clearance in a stock vehicle should be fine. All that being said, weather and driver experience can make a huge difference too. Thanks for watching!
any idea why this trail is closed? i checked on google maps and it says it closed
Thanks for watching! Recommend Bushducks as one the best resources for trail status: bushducks.com/tripreps/passopen.htm#clearlake
@@OverlandTrax Thanks for the video and the lead on Bushducks! Heading up Memorial Day weekend '22. Bushducks status updates invaluable.
@@billlumbergh6618 safe travels!
Will a AWD Honda Pilot make this drive? Great video by the way!
Thanks for watching! Depending on the time of year (i.e., no rain or snow) and driver/vehicle capabilities an AWD should be fine; safety first though 🙄
Can you camp here? Kayack?.....
Camping above treeline is always a little risky (e.g., thunderstorms, high wind), I don't recall seeing any "no camping" signs; I would not recommend camping up there. As far as kayaking goes, I am not sure if there are regulations for or against it; whish I could be more help. Thanks for watching!
Will my RWD Truck make it up there?
In ideal conditions it might be possible, but I don't recommend it.
how dou you add route map to your videos?
Great question. I use Adobe AfterEffects, but its a time and resource intensive process. There is a simpler option available: czcams.com/video/4csUcSAItl4/video.html
Did you have to air down at all and about what psi are you sitting at on this trail!
Thanks for watching! Yes, I do air down. I normally drop down to 25psi. For this trail, traction only may be an issue till you hit the switchbacks. Recommend drooping your PSI in general when of pavement, even if its just a gravel road.
I dare ya to find a UGLY spot in Colorado(cant be done) BEAutiful, Thanx Fer Sharin
lol, so true
Maybe more music in mix, less car noise?
Thanks for the feedback! Totally agree, still working out a few things. Thanks for watching 😃
