    Great vid, amazing road through amazing country! Man, that EarthRoamer would be one heckuva way to overland, though you're right, it's so big...there are many awesome places I've got to in my Forester where that beast could never set foot. Wouldn't want to change a flat tire on that thing either, LOL. I missed this video when it came out but your drawer video popped up in my feed yesterday (I've been devouring drawer build videos at the moment) and I realized, oh hey, I know this channel! :-) Anyway, I've now also clicked on the bell icon so I get better notification of your new vids. Getting close to 1,000 subscribers! Keep 'em coming!

      Agreed, I like the idea of an EarthRoamer but it would limit your accessibility to a lot of areas. Thanks for watching, your channel has exploded; Keep it up!

      Forest Road #630 (Ophir Pass Road), more info is available here: www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/gmug/recarea/?recid=32492. I also recommend checking out a few other sites like alltrails, traildamge, and trailsoffroad. Cheers!

    Thank you for posting up the vid! I will add it to the trip plan for the family. Is this considered to be part of the "Alipine Loop Trail"?
    I want to at least part of the Alpine loop and then the White Rim trail out in Moab, UT on our way to the Jackson Hole/Titans/Yellowstone area.

    • @OverlandTrax
      @OverlandTrax  Před 4 lety +1

      My pleasure! Ophir Pass is located just east near the Alpine Loop. If you plan to camp on white rim, make sure to make reservations ahead of time. Cheers!

    Nicely done. Heading to do the trails in that area on a road trip from New England. I was think of spending a week to ten days in Ouray area, mainly for trail riding (easy to moderate trails only as my 4Runner only has a mild lift). How many days minimum would you recommend to cover most of those type of trails? I would be staying in a campground as my base camp. Thanks!

    • @OverlandTrax
      @OverlandTrax  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks! The Ouray area has almost two dozen popular trails, only 4 of them are rated hard. How may days it would take largely depends on your driving style and time of year (traffic). I would recommend estimating two trails a day that way you have some flexibility in your schedule.

    • @mountainlife1165
      @mountainlife1165 Před 4 lety +1

      OverlandTrax , great. Thank you. I was going to hit Moab first for a solid week then back track and finish my trip in Ouray area.

    Beautiful footage! I have been looking for a Colorado pass to visit in my 2wd F150, with plenty of ground clearance, all-terrain tires, and locking rear-diff. Do you guys think Ophir Pass is doable for this truck?

    • @OverlandTrax
      @OverlandTrax  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for watching! It is possible if the trail conditions are favorable (e.g., no rain or snow), but I do not recommend it. Please keep in mind that driver capabilities and comfort levels with risk also play into selecting a trail.

    Is this safe to do as a first timer alone? In a 2010 chevy silverado. 4x4

    • @OverlandTrax
      @OverlandTrax  Před 3 lety

      Since this is rated a moderate trail, I do not recommend it being your first trail. There are several narrow spots which can be unsettling even for experienced drivers, especially since this is a shelf road (road cut out of the side of the mountain). In general, I recommend looking at easier rated trails until you're more comfortable with both you and your vehicles capabilities. Hope this helps, safe travels!

  • @Halfpace52
    @Halfpace52 Před 2 lety +1

    Is high clearance 4x4 required to drive this trail?

    • @OverlandTrax
      @OverlandTrax  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for watching! A high clearance 4x4 should not be necessary for this trail. Please keep in mind that trail conditions change (e.g., washed out due to rain), especially in Colorado.

      @@OverlandTrax Thats awesome! I’m a huge dork for anything railroad related. I got to ride from Silverton to Durango and that is probably coolest experience by rail I’ve ever been on. We don’t have mountains in Missouri like y’all do.

  • @RebelViking912

    where is the best place to start the trail at, Silverton or Telluride? Is it only one way? I"m going to Colorado in June and would like to ride this trail. Thanks.

    • @OverlandTrax
      @OverlandTrax  Před 3 lety

      Thank you for watching! the trail is not one way which means you'll want to keep an eye out for oncoming traffic to avoid unsettling situations; personally recommend starting Silverton.
