I really am starting to think Overclock Media is single handedly keeping these refurbishing companies in business 😂😂
And helping new companies decide to dive into it! 🤣
What if Austin was bought from newegg
It was an experiment Paul and Kyle tried years ago. They created a monster and had to quit.
It's more likely they found him on Temu
That's called Linus Tech Tips jk jk 😂😂😂
Dam
Depends if they refreshed him or not
really enjoying all these "is this refurbishing a scam" videos. I just love second hand tech being bought and talked about. Calms me down in this highly stressful life.. Thank you Austin and everyone on the team.. much love.
AUSTIN IS INSIDE OF YOUR WALLS
I hope they don’t sell him a motherboard with broken pins and refuse a refund because he didn’t prove that when he got it was broken
Nah, they only do that to Gamers Nexus. It’s a deal they worked out.
can confirm ABS is one of Neweggs brands
so it breaks little by little?
Its the top seller because people use the old intel mac minis for plex servers. Its about the same price of a raspberry pi but it has intel quick sync which is amazing for transcoding 4k media.
I'm... Going to go buy one now.
And probably because this is the last Mac Mini with replaceable SSD (although RAM was already soldered).
As a Canadian, even though our phone plans are outrageously expensive. The one thing I do like over here is if you buy a phone with your carrier it is unlocked and not locked to that carrier
You can actually pay around $10 for the code to unlock your phone if it is tied to a carrier.
@@Thrashifice ya but then you gotta call your carrier. You gotta do all this process. Meanwhile, here in Canada you literally can just get a contract with your phone or buy the phone without a contract and it’s all unlocked. So if you choose to buy a phone with your provider and then all of a sudden you choose to switch to another provider, you can switch to different provider, Sim card into that phone free of charge
So they don't blacklist it if you don't pay it off ?@@Mzuch14
Yeah almost 200 bucks for two phones and phone plans kinda makes me wanna die lol
Get that in Australia too.
I used to work for a warehouse that threw in all those advertising leaflets into their orders, if we dropped the leaflets or they weren't in with the order slips it wasn't something we were supposed to follow up with because it was more important to complete the other orders.
I quite often "accidentally" lost the leaflets that were in with the ordered I was fulfilling. It's tragic how many people didn't get adverts for wine and "you're gonna die, so get life insurance."
Our work phones were originally on Sprint, and after the merger with T-Mobile, all we had to do was put in a new SIM card, no problems.
I was yelling at the screen when Austin got the bomb and was just talking 12:57
Lol I was about to comment the same thing
I'm convinced it's been Austin this entire time when someone abruptly goes AFK in my games.
I bought a refurbished Seagate external hard drive around 2009. It has outlasted every other flash drive/hard drive I have ever bought to this day. Still works like a charm.
Last year I bought 3 12tb seagate hard drives off them for $80 each and they are all still going strong af
I bought a new internal hard drive some years ago in a local store. It had a bunch of porn on it and a few weeks of runtime according to smart stats.
I buy refurb hdds all the time and shockingly they are actually pretty reliable. Gotta make sure they're seagate refurbs and not third party tho lol.
@kelownatechkid I mean even if a few are DOA or die quicker than new, the fact that I am spending ⅓ or less the amount of a new hard drive means I can have 3x the capacity and honeslty with redundancies in place I trust 3 used drives more than a single new one (also for DOAs most sellers if good accept returns/refunds)
@@Psi-Storm You should be happy that the videos weren't something illegal
Austin that’s not a corporate galaxy fold that is in fact, a pre production unit.
oh sheeeet, still carrier locked tho
He won't be able to unlock it
Fun Fact Austin! That Z Flip you bought is an internal Samsung sample. Made before retail units and used as a training unit most likely.
Final hardware definitely! I have had a fair share few of those in my time
you're from sammobile right? I actually saw you made some samsung contents for that if I remembered correctly. And yes, I have seen some samsungs with id number etched on the back cover
I actually got it too, and mine had numbers attached on it, i ended up giving it to a friend of mine because i just didn't like the phone lol
Personally, I only trust refurbished if it’s from the manufacturer. Companies like Apple and Nintendo have rigorous refurbished standards. You often end up with a practically brand new device.
You definitely can update the Mac mini to modern macOS. Put an ssd in, make an opencore patcher installer, and install Sonoma. It will run fine.
The Z-flip depreciation is crazy but it looks like the folds still hold their value better.
Great video guys. This was a surprisingly interesting set of random tests lol
yo Austin thanks for helping me build my first custom built pc back in July 2023 really helped since i didnt know to much about pc's internal componets
Keep up the good informative work in between video like the pc 2024 explainationnpart and aslo seeing that steam page open tell me how recently this video was shot so great work and keep the grind and hard work on Austin and team
2:35 Walmart also offers 90-day returns on its "Walmart Restored" products.
Walmart's "Premium Restored" products only have 30-day returns. but come with a 1-year warranty.
Great Video Austin 👌🏻
Austin, you should try a bunch of Woot refurbs, scratch & dents, and tech mystery boxes. Be a good episode.
11:33 "It's a nice set-up for more budget systems" Me watching that video on my my Philips 222E for $6: "yeah, budget systems"
ABS is neweggs in house prebuilding department
It seems to have mixed reviews on them, I got one of em and it’s absolutely fantastic, but people with 4090 builds seem to have a 50/50 chance of it being DOA. I wonder if it’s a 4090 issue instead of an ABS issue
I am curious what you doo with all the items you purchase for all of your videos. Huge fan keep it up
the gpu currently in my deskt5op is a newegg refurbished rog strix 980 oc 8gb which I picked up in 2022 for only $120ish. it was a significant upgrade from my EVGA 1050 ti FTW which I originally used when building the system in late 2017 to comply with the 4K Netflix specs at the time.
Also I got an iphone SE 3rd gen, brand new from Target for $100 and I was carrier locked to Total by Verizon but they only have a 30-day lock on their phones which is still easily worth it.
My "refreshed" Intel NUC did NOT come with a power supply and they never responded to my requests for one. Newegg is still Newegg no matter how much they say they have changed. Bravo Newegg you fooled me again. Never Again.
I bought a portable monitor on newegg, and it was stated as refurbished but stated in the listing that: [Attention]: menu/button abnormal (Minor Flaws), the screen display is normal. Does not affect basic use, but when I got the monitor, the power button did not work at all. The monitor was stuck in the on position.
Well, better than in the off position lol
@@Dan-Simms true
One of the best moments in this video was when Austin declares he has, "backlight bleed"!
For 17:15 you don't have to tear apart the mac mini! Just buy an external ssd or make your own with a usb 3 rack and install the OS on the external SSD. Now you have a super cheap and fast mac mini with an extra super slow 1tb hdd for storage. I bought that same model ages ago and it could handle all office tasks even do some After Effects and Photoshop/Illustrator.
I have that same mac, it's slow as hell with Adobe photoshop since i do some illustration i couldn't deal with it, so i ended up returning it, i would honestly not buy this piece of garbage, even if it were given to me for free
I Love Austin Evans Videos 💜
The price of the surface is now going to skyrocket isnt it 🙃
The tmobile switch for sprint phones is super easy, definitely still a good value.
Did you have the Surface connected to the net from the getgo while talking about the screen BLB and specs?
Cause the 16% CPU use while seemingly only Task Manager is open seems sus as hell... unless of course if it wasn't WinUp in the background.
I absolutely loved sprint and hate that I had to switch to T-Mobile service. I live in the Midwest though so I’ve had zero problems up until now 😂
I had a bad experience with Newegg so I worry so much about getting anything expensive on there. Amazon also i got a 7900xtx and a Thor Psu. The 7900xtx was used and damaged, and the Asus Thor 850 watt Psu someone swapped it out for a 600 watt older Evga Psu. And on Newegg I ordered a case for my gaming Pc and I got a junk $65 dollar Msi monitor. I will always go to either Micro Center or Best Buy!!
Hey Austin’s how cupertino this time of year
“Ain’t buying shit” 💀💀💀 you didn’t have to flame abs so hard Austin 🤣🤣🤣
Just bought a skytech pre build from Amazon 800 bucks and it is brand new with a rtx 4060 and a i5-13400k runs all games no problem at max settings so far
That locked Z Flip should work with t-mobile. My Note 10+ was originally from Sprint. But I put my t-mobile Sim in it and immediately worked.
that se video quality looked better then the studio camera tbh
I fall asleep to your videos most nights. Idk if that’s a compliment or insult but thankyou
The video from the iPhone looks better than the studio cameras 😂
Austin went nuts on the last product
Nice to see that minimalist mouse from mystery tech making an appearance. Lol
I think a literal archive of scam tech exists somewhere in the office, just to know where to go for future crappy tech
I purchase a 2nd hand motherboard from Newegg. It went through their standard test before they release it for sale. First time buying a used board from them. It turn out a lot of CPU pin was bent. No dual channel because of the damaged part. Yeah, it went through their test. Not promising at all, since it past their test. Concerning on their statement and test on used board.
So, the "Advanced Battlestations" moniker is relatively new, it originally meant "Always Better Service" and is Newegg's in-house System Integrator.
Chances are, I wouldn't be surprised if the system you received is either New-Old-Stock as you suspect or a system that was returned to ABS due to defect or the customer no longer wanting it and they can't sell it as new, so they replaced any broken parts, re-burned the system, then listed it as a Refurb.
Used to work at new egg as a builder for their inhouse PC ABS also known to the staff as A Bunch of Shit
The way you slid big chungus edition in there killed me
Side note new egg shipped my 7800xt to me brand new i never got my package and new egg would not process my replacement claim without a police report then decided to close the claim as properly delivered and closed the claim as denied so im out of a gpu and $530
Hey ive had the 2nd generation iPhone SE2020 since day1 as my daily work phone and battery hasnt been an issue once.
Other than the "Refreshed" name I knew about Newegg Refurbished for years, got a 3rd gen Surface Pro tablet refurbished from Newegg a few years ago that I only stopped using because the battery puffed up and I was too cheap to get it replaced at the time.
I bought an ABS desktop from newegg 3 years ago and it works great.
If you have an older Mac computer and it has n SSD or can be upgraded to an SSD then you might be able use a program called Open Core Legacy Patcher (OCLP) to install the latest version of macOS, I have a 3rd Gen Intel Mac Mini thats been upgraded to an SSD & 16GB Ram and has the latest macOS Sonoma installed and fully working, maybe Austin could do a video upgrading this to an SSD and running on OCLP.
Over the last 20 years, I've purchased a number of third party refurbished workstations (e.g. HP zSeries) off Newegg and have been very happy.
i would like it if they had this service in canada but of course canada gets nothing, same with the gpu shortage newegg was doing a sign up for gpu in the usa but canada got nothing
Seeing a $900 pc with a 3060 and a new gen i5 being considered "low value" in america blows my mind since in my country the GPU alone costs like $600
Upgrading from a 3060 to a 3070 TI is an excellent upgrade, you get about a 40-50% uptick on performance and you can get the 3070 TI used for about the same price of a 3060 sold new back in the day.
Abs brand stands for already been sold hahaha. I think it’s pretty fitting!
hello austin!
Austin you shoud do Reebelo i got my laptop and Airpods there pretty great they do refurbished stuff to!
That Mac Mini is perfect to convert Chrome OS Flex and put in a SSD PCIE. I had that one and that's what I did 4 years ago, before it was even called Chrome OS Flex.
ABS is air braking system or Anti-lock Braking System is were talking about cars.
If the device is locked to Sprint, T-Mobile will most likely authorize an unlock, or right now, goto settings, press temp unlock, then perm unlock and itll unlock!
I was a newegg customer for 15+ years. I only ever bought computer parts from them. Until they sold me a fake microSD card. it was labeled as GSkill, but what I received most certainly was not. it came it a half clear half white plastic bag just like all the other chinese junk on Amazon, so I tested it and it was 1/4 the storage size that I paid for, and it didnt come with the usb to micro sd dongle that it said it did.
So, no more business from me, all because of a cheap sd card.
I just got a like new monitor from Amazon that had a 3 inch band of dead pixels all the way from the bottom to the top. 😮
Also, the only thing I know ABS for is audio. Interesting
i got a 3070ti for 370 after shipping and its running amazing
The ads are evolving South Park was right
For the mac-mini if I had to guess, they put in the #1 best seller section to get rid of inventory that nobody will buy.
amazon also does 90 day with renewed/refurbs
Holy shit that's a huge 1080p monitor!
On the GPU front. The difference between a mining and gamed on card are in mining's favor. At least in my experience.
It was definitely a scam when I bought a "B-Grade Refurbished" laptop that had obvious fall damage and cracks along the edge of the screen, a completely broken divider in the pcmcia card bay, a malfunctioning fingerprint scanner, and an EOL battery that only lasted for an hour. Every order was for new, in-box items since then because trust was shattered on the "refurbished" front.
Did you 3d print the Optimum Tech mouse shell?
My dad got a Gainward 3070 Newegg refreshed and it was not refurbished and was quite dusty and had strange behavior.
I bought a Refreshed 7900XT reference (for USB-C video out) for 629 USD. Still shipping, but I hope it is good. Reference is hard to buy.
Austin, you single handedly made me start liking flip phones so I'd like to humbly say that your Z Flip deal is not the cheapest folding phone on the internet because i bought a Z Flip 3 from Facebook Marketplace a month ago for $120 Australian dollars. And that according to google converts to $77 USD. The only caveat was a single dead pixel
Newegg or tiger direct rippped us off when windows 7 was new and they did not give genuine keys
I want an update on that Z Flip.
I actually just received My NewEgg Refurbed Phantom Gaming 7900xtx its Like Brannd new . Ran some benchmarks on it and it's Great! I had a 6950xt and this was great deal I think for the 849 I paid.
Got myself a refurbished Quest 3 like $140 cheaper than the regular price. The only downside was (besides the headset smelling like woman's perfume) - minor scuff on the top resin(plastic?) of the controller...the rest - great quality!
I just bought a used unlocked Galaxy Z Flip 5 "refurbished" on eBay for $450, partially due to his review. It has a tiny scratch on the back but other than that is perfect
Can you take the Samsung galaxy z flip to look if t-mobile can give you and plan or unlock it?
First 250hz monitor iv ever seen on CZcams
Austin/comments: I’m looking for a new gaming PC, and I’ve never built before. Should I go prebuilt or build my own and what would be more cost effective?
And where should I buy from? (Prebuilt and just components)
most cost effective is a used pc
Build your own go for ryzen 7000 series and AMD gpu if on a budget for new parts, orherwise if you want AMD buy a refurbished gpu on new egg I reccommend 3070 or higher
Yes you can get that sprint phone activated on t-mobile.
I just wanna STRESS ! I had a 2012 mac mini that did they exact same thing when it would sleep and you would wake it up.
Hey Austin i want some of thse tech you show bcoz i need them but can't afford even the low priced ones especially the computers and phones
mac mini is good to run imessage relay servers. Lets you use imessage on windows and android.
What mouse is Austin’s using?
Been thinking the same thing, I was trying to search it up and none of the results showed anything similar...
It's in one of his videos, it's a de-cased Logitech with a custom 3D printed frame to make it ultra-lightweight IIRC.
I would love to see a NZXT refurbished video
ABS is NewEgg's system builder brand.
Hey Austin! Is that a mouse or just its the blueprint of the mouse? XD
I have been following this guy for so long, now I'm in my 20s
I honestly need a PC and a Laptop and a monitor to study and work.. but can’t buy them because of financial issues and refurbished stuff seem like good options.
The extra 4 pin is for people doing overclocking, you won't get that 4pin on cheap power supplies
"You can't update these mac mini's to the latest Mac OS"
Open Core Legacy Patcher: "Am I a joke to you?"
Seriously, I bought a 2012 mini off ebay a few months ago with an SSD and maxed ram for about $100 and it's running Sonoma just fine.
The new system you looked at that was the same price as the ABS not only had a newer gpu, but also had DDR5 ram instead of the DDR4 in the ABS. That system is a ripoff.
