Ready for that streaming box comparison!
It's real easy! If you mostly do your streaming from streaming services go for the Apple TV Box, if you have your own collection, go for the Nvidia Shield TV...
One of the best q&a sessions ever! 🎉 I’ve been pondering all these questions for awhile now!! Thank you!
Especially the tv apps Vs external device! Also, I can’t wait for your detailed reviews of the new Bravias!! I hope you offer advice on the different video setting options other than just filmmaker mode! 🎉😊
I look forward to the Q&A video all week. I have learned so much on these episodes as well as the other videos. Keep'em coming.
Caleb Denison for president of the United States of America
Actually some fair questions and the answers was also spot on... Well done.
These question and answer videos are just great 👌👌👌
Gidday from Australia Caleb, thank you for another awesome video, just wanted to let you know your show has viewers all the way here down under. Colin, Melbourne Australia.
Great run through. So what would be the best type of screen for all day viewing and for sports and movies, as I can't keep up with the different ones? Thanks!
I have followed your content for years . When i need answers about the newest tv this or that you are the go to guy . All tvs seem to be trying to catch up to the oled tech . I believe the lcd advancements have reached the maximum as far as it can go . Oled still has some wiggle room with brightness and then it will be capped off as well . I finally bought my first oled its the 77 inch lg c3 i,ve never seen such a beautiful tv picture as long as the content is there the upscale is pretty good you have to give the unit something to work with . I ,ve had my oled for a month every now and again i go on youtube and run those oled test 4k documentaries just to see what this space ship can do . Nothing can compare and thank you for all your info on tv tech ................
Another excellent hotel version of You Asked! Another set of great questions and answers. Great job, Caleb!
Good, really looking forward to that Shiels vs ATV comparison. Love your stuff.
Have both. The Apple TV is better imo.
I own and use 2 Nvidia Shield TVs for streaming and live TV. The Apple TV is more powerful, but I don't like the closed ecosystem.
@@lifewithintergrity I have apple tv 4k but I'm not sure if it's me but it doesn't support all audio formats
So I am fortunate enough to have both an OLED (LG C4 just got it) and a MiniLED (Sony X95L) TV in my house. I also use reference monitors for CG in my office. So my first thing is if you cannot control ambient light in the room go MiniLED. Even If you can control the light in the room The higher peak brightness of miniLED can really make the image pop in ways OLED can't. I don't feel like one is really better than the other but more that they both have drawbacks. OLED gets you deep blacks and Less blooming since you will always have some blooming due to the optics of your eyes. But you might get black crush and you aren't going to get the brightness of the MiniLED. MiniLED can have trouble with blooming but it is less susceptible to black crush and has a much higher peak brightness. For most people, I honestly think MiniLED is the way to go. Almost all the mastering is done using LCD. OLED reference monitors are really new not to mention they are kind of small and and really dim.
Don't forget your complimentary burn in on OLED.
Which application will give you a crisper picture with natural light. I have a lot of windows in my house which give an abundance of sunlight. Please forgive my ignorance on this as I have not done enough research to know which is better. All the best, k
@@KB-kd9pt The point is, watching a movie in sunlight is never a natural situation but an odd one. If you're talking about casual TV watching during daytime with lots of sunlight,Full array or mini led wins in that condition.
If you're planning to buy a TV for majorly watching movies, and want a sharper picture, go for OLED. But you need to watch the movie s during evening or night time in a well lit room, no issues. If you want to watch movies during daytime, you need some blinds/ curtains to control the light.
I got S95C and X95L, contrary to what the main poster said, the QD-OLED is far superior in PQ and no issues with lack of brightness. I won't try to justify my purchase of mini led and I think it's bit hyped. I feel it'd equally do, if I purchased full array led X90L (much cheaper).
@@shanew7361 Something you shouldn't worry about!
I LOVE this series. Thank you for doing it. On the topic of external streamers to internal tv apps, I've really enjoyed the external options once my panel no longer receives support. I am still enjoying my 65in LG E6. The panel still looks great, I enjoyed watching Avatar 2 in 3d at home (haha), but the support of the onboard apps are long gone at this point. I like the idea of buying the latest apple TV, Roku Ultra, or shield to "keep my os up to date" whole still enjoying a viable panel. I also have employed a HD Fury from arcana to guve me a split earc and enjoy lossless Atmos with my sould system. The idea that we can extend the viability of these panel beyond their supported schedules is just great!
'Liked' for covering the effects of 'all day' usage and burn-in. Thanks.
Love the unbiased takes. I have no interest in TVs, but I genuinely appreciate honesty.
if you don't know anything about TVs how can you tell if someone is being unbiased in their takes?
Excellent presentation
Love these 'you asked' vids, thanks for the hotel drop Caleb! As for the OLED vs. LED debate, I'm just a sucker for the blacks in a movie dipping to the point that it matches the letterbox.
I was watching BR2049 over the weekend and that spinner chase over the Pacific ocean is such a masterwork of black levels. OLED's provide the closest thing to my long lost love of those Pioneer Plasma's from back in the day.
Nice video keep up the good work
What a great video. Thanks.
When will you do a full review on the Sony A9 Quad?
I have been watching your videos for years now and I know you answer this question before but I’m curious I would you answer it now. How long should you wait to get a new tv I have the LG CX/ LG C10?
Question I have the LG C2 and the Vizio elevate sound bar should I plug my Apple TV box directly into the LG or into the sound bar
My Sony A80K streaming apps looked better than any streaming box I took home, Apple4K-Ruko's best unit. Same trying cable-cutting CZcams /Fubo, My Verizon FIOS cable box looks better and has more consistent picture quality and sound. While costing less.
My question is when I watch these types of reviews and they show how one OLED or what ever is brighter than the other and I can see it on my Sony A80K which means my TV can reproduce that brightness level. if so I would not be able to see it on my Sony. right? Love the channel.
All TVs will look as good as lighting conditions and like all my past TVs they look better with lower nighttime lighting.
Hi Caleb, long time subscriber and follower by the way I learned a lot about tvs with you. My question is it too much difference between the A80l and the Bravia 8?
Good question. Hardware wise, it's the same more or less, but the Bravia 8 has some new software and processing issues
@@michael-4k4000 as I understand, it is a little bit brighter, the bezels changes and includes special picture modes for Netflix Amazon and Sony app, explain the issues.
How long will the LG BX Oled be supported for say? Built in apps. And how long will the device get software updates from now... and does Dolby Vision IQ actuality work in a dark black out room?
I think when we’re comparing MiniLED vs OLED it’s important to also bring overall value into the conversation. I recently picked up a 65” TCL QM8, and I’ve come to enjoy watching movies on it way way more than my LG CX 77”. The peak brightness on QM8 just really makes HDR content have that “wow” factor. Obviously OLED has come a long way since the CX, but I don’t think I could justify the price difference if I was in the market for another TV at this point. I’m nearly completely satisfied with the QM8. (I got my QM8 for around $700)
And SONY will always be better than any of those...
Guess you're not referring to dark room viewing .... ???
I was just about to say to the op that I'm in a similar boat. I have a 85 inch Sony and the lower level TCL and I enjoy watching 4k HDR content better on the TCL due to brightness.@@steveludwig4200
HDR is overrated, higher brightness doesn't mean WOW..
@@steveludwig4200 I have been a Sony fan since I was old enough to remember - however.... I have been buying lg TV's for the last 15 years, and MSRP be damned, the sony's I do like cost twice as much as the LG OLED offerings that look good to me....
CALEB YOU ROCK FOR PICKING MY QUESTION!! Unfortunately I tried but cant swing the LG G3 so I am going to purchase a 55" LG C3 hopefully this weekend 🎉. Thankyou again for picking my question!!!!
Then you should try and swing for the 65" instead. BIG difference, assuming you have the space...
@@supergrissi unfortunately I don't have the space for 65 in the 55-in was already pushing it LOL
I have a tcl 98x11g, it big & bright and thanks to 5000 dimming zones it's very hard to find a blooming area.
Please do a review on the new iPad Pro OLED 😊
we've never had a problem with LG OLED installed apps. Always had good streaming and quality.
Hi Caleb, you had the pleasure to play around with 97" LG OLED G2. There are some interesting deals right now with more than 40% discount. What is your opinion about that TV now in light of current progress of new models, keeping in mind it's sole function would be movies and streaming? Thanks :)
Seen a U8K and C3 in a 'normal' living room setting, haven't seen a U8N. That said, even with brightness taken into account, there's no contest - the C3 wins hands down; just has the wow factor. The U8K is great, but there's levels to the game here.
At the same price point, unless your TV is set up facing directly into the sun for some reason, you'd go with the C3, unless the U8N is a dramatic upgrade.
The c3 is dim as hell tho. Its basically unusable in anything other than vivid and even then its still dim
I'd have to see for myself. The U8k can do everything according to Rtings at a high level. While you get an overall better picture with a C3. You don't have to worry about stutter or brightness levels as much with that LCD. Then if you want to buy a 77 or 85 inch tv you'll save thousands by getting the hisense. Unless the image is really overrated the hisense appears to be a better value.
I sell TVs and to be honest I have compared them and although OLED is really good hands down the U8K is soo good especially for what you are paying
Same price point?
Absolutely not. Even TCLs new mini led flagship is better standing next to this.
I've had my TCL 75" miniLED tv for a couple of weeks now. I love the size and hate the picture quality. Considering going back to my 7 year old LG OLED with burn in until I find a good offer on a large OLED TV.
can you please do reviews of tv stands
Hey Caleb! Does the 75-inch U8N use an ADS IPS PRO panel, if so, wouldn't the viewing angles on the 75-inch look better than the 65 inch which uses an VA panel?
I would take the ADS-PRO. I cant explain. I thought ADS-pro will be lower tier or catching up game. But WALKING the store seeing 75” U8K ,,,I walking out Flipped UPSIDE down. They are the MOST GLOSSY panels ever. They look like Acrylic wall art glossy .
On top they absorb light 2X as OLED. So it looks like dark glossy portal on those Star 🌟 Trek show.
I want the Apple TV vs Nvidia Shield AV enthusiast comparison video so baddddddd
Shield is a 5year old soc, it’s practically abandonware. Cannot do av1. Cannot do hdr+. It cant even do googles own hdr on the youtube we are watching here. All of which are formats showing up more and more. No reason an ‘enthusiast’ would be touching such out of touch tech.
Will the LG Oled C2, Apple TV, and/or the Sonos Arc ever/finally get DTS:X support since IMAX Enhanced audio will be available in some Disney+ content?
For the C4 if you are interested in gaming it does 144hz
Happy weekend 😁
When you do Nvidia shield vs Apple TV, can we get the Onn Walmart 4K as well? Since it's the newest entrant from Google
Really like “you asked “ videos. I have had both LCD and OLED . OLED is my favorite by far.
How about Amazon Fire TV for streaming?
The G3 is incredible. It’s my third LG OLED and let me just say the brightness is for real. Sometimes I contemplate turning my brightness down further haha.
Suggestion: Do a comparison of Apple streaming box vs. a 4k blu-ray player.
Just bought a 65” C3 this morning for 1400 CHF I’m excited. Just moved to Switzerland from the State. Is there any significant differences between the C3 series in Europe vs USA?
I know we get the U8KQ which operates off Vidaa instead of Google TV.
How much is that in Baht?
I bought a 75in U8K (75in has the ads pro ips panel instead of VA) and have been very happy with it. It gets bright af and looks great.
How are the viewing angles? I'm stuck between a U8N 75 inch or a G4 77 inch.
Too bad the video processing is abysmal
@@davidross7255I’m sure the G4 is a superior tv but that comes at twice the price. I paid 1200 for my 75 U8k. The question is the G4 worth spending 2k more on for that increase in picture quality. Only you can answer that.
@@davidross7255 ADS panel have good viewing angles and a more glossy finish. VA has bad viewing angles. So the TV needs a viewing angle filter, but that will lower the VA panel contrast and making it more greyish to the eye, depending on the finish. But from what i´ve seen most Hisense VA panel have bad viewing angles. So no viewing angle filter. Can´t speak for the U8N.
@@armylrs2391 ?
The whole which is better internal apps or AppleTV 4K as an example. That actually depends there has been situations where the DV looked better on internal apps.
This is the whole "Player led vs TV led" HDR/DV. With AppleTV it might do the processing and the TV isn't as involved as much. The really important part would be for example Sony XR Clear. Does it work on anything. Meaning anything connected via HDMI or only on internal apps? If it only works on internal apps then it would be better to use them when streaming since you get the extra upscaling and cleaning of low bit rate content. Even 4K streams.
I wish someone actually made a proper comparison. Side by side.
Thanks for your great reviews. I'm looking to replace my 55" Panasonic plasma, which is still working just fine. I'm looking at 65" in the $1000 area and you've narrowed down for to 3 TVs.
In my search I see 65" 4K sets from known manufacturers under $400, How bad are they? Have you tested at this price point? Are these sets good value? I find this interesting. Thanks for your time.
I wouldn't suggest buying a 4K 65" TV for only $400. You would have to settle for a junk brand that won't look that good and won't last that long. If you have $1,000 to spend I'd definitely use the whole budget. Or even better, keep the plasma for a little while longer and save up more to get even better. Personally I'd go for a smaller size before I'd go for a low quality brand or lower end model.
I have a LG C3 OLED and love it.
I chose a 75 U8k over a 65 C3. I got the size and picture upgrade I wanted over my previous tv and I saved a bunch of money. I’m happy with it and to my eyes it looks excellent. I love the brightness and the colors. It also has deep blacks and I barely have seen any blooming.
How are the viewing angles?
@@davidross7255 just fine for the way my seating area around the tv is situated. You have to go pretty far off angle for the picture to get funky
On the 75 inch the viewing angles are perfect like an OLED.
I have a Hisense U8H and the local dimming is off on every picture mode. It is grayed out so I can't even select it to turn it on. Is there something I need to do to activate it?
Good morning, despite not understanding the English language well, I watch your videos about televisions, I would like to make one comparing the Hisense U8N TV with the TCL QM851, both from the year 2024, thank you.
I have lg oled right now. It pretty old now, but its still great for movies i watch. But my next tv could be miniLed from Hisense or TCL from 2 main reasons. 1. Size - i want something in 98-100 inches. 2. Brightness - i often watch movies in daylight and 3500 - 5000 lumens peak brightness would elevate my watching experience in that environment.
I want to upgrade my home theater. I have a 10 yr old 1080 projector with a 105 inch screen. I think it would be the time to go with a 98 -105 inch TV. Buy now or wait for newer? and which one. Dark room used for major sport events and new movies. Thanks. Low your channel
I got the 55” TCL 6 series back in 2021 and I notice the various streaming apps installed in the TV are noticeably worse when it comes to picture quality compared to my Apple TV. For me personally, I use my Apple TV if I’m watching things on Netflix, Max & Paramount+, but if I’m watching CZcams, it’s easier to just use the on board TV app
I love my LG C3 65 inch
Is the U8N the next years model of the U8K?
Caleb: I need help and can't find an answer to this anywhere. I have a Samsung QN90B tv and a Samsung 750B soundbar/rear speaker set up. The soundbar supports DTS, the TV does not. When I have it all hooked up through e-Arc I was told that no DTS signal will pass through the tv and I won't get any audio but I do get audio and it sounds pretty damn good. The soundbar though does not show DTS it shows multichannel pcm. So my question is: what sound am I getting? Is it the DTS sound? Or is it downgraded. If it is the DTS encoded sound with no downgrades will it be the same for a DTS X encoded track? Or am I losing quality by listing (well watching a blu ray more so than listening) this way?
I hope you answer. Love your reviews and videos
Try setting the tv to adaptive soundmode it should solve the sound issues
the streaming quality question speaks to a search i had early last month. turns out different web browsers allow for different streaming quality. I've got a 4k tv mounted above my desktop. This took me by surprise.
Bring on the Bravia 7
So at this moment it is also G3 over C4?
I'm still not clear on the benefits of using an apple tv box over, say, the apps on my Sony's Google tv interface.
I am fine with the quality I get from the built in apps though so eh... I don't stream enough for it to be a big thing. Would make for an interesting video if you expand on the comparison you mentioned for apple tv vs Nvidia
I got the U8N 55" forfreeformy honest review. That said, it hasavery nice picture straight on, but off angle is horrible. It doesnt come close to either my C1 or G3 OLEDs at all.
What is that cabinet at 0:08
I haven’t watched the vid yet, but just from the intro, I can tell you I have had other issues besides basic picture quality with external streaming boxes compared to apps built in to the TV. We are having issues with our Apple TV 4K, where the CZcams app glitches on every single advertisement. The sound and video flash to black multiple times and some of the ad (and then some of the content after the ad) is cut off. It’s so jarring to watch, I’ve switched to the LG WebOS version since most of my watching is on CZcams. We’ve had plenty of other annoyances with the Apple TV recently as well. I love the platform though; I am just waiting for a new version to come out. Hopefully they’ll support 120 Hz refresh rate finally too.
A consideration when choosing an external streamer vs the TV's built-in streaming app is, does the built-in app support all the channels you watch? For instance in the case of LG TVs: ESPN, PBS Passport, Criterion Channel & many other important channels are not supported. An advantage of a built-in app is, it frees up an HDMI port & the TV's remote is used during app navigation (one less remote!).
That's a good reason to get a Sony TV. Sony TVs use Android TV as the software so you don't have to worry about TV manufacturer software not having an app. Android TV will.
I feel like Hisense lost it’s way, they were supposed to be the budget choice.
At $1500 they’re no contest to C3 or Samsung S90C
If you want LED instead of OLED just get the Sony x93L that is at the same price; some would say Hisense is better for gaming as it supports Dolby Vision gaming and stuff, but being real their implementation of VRR is very buggy so I believe most folks would be ok with a proper HDR10 VRR implementation than a glitchy all rounder
Dont hate on NYC! Nice lighting btw.
Hey Caleb, are there any ETA on the Bravia 7 and 9 reviews that you can share with us?
Bravia 9 gonna be TV of the Year!
I got 2011 Samsung 55 inch 3D 1080 TV. Not once have I ever used it for 3D content lol. I use apple TV 4k as my streaming box and I use youtubeTV for cable TV sub. I watch maybe 2-3 hours of shows/movies a week. Not a heavy TV watcher. My TV is really showing it's age but still works fine. Is it really necessary for me to get a new TV? I also use a Denon TX-SR 444 for home theater audio. My audio setup is 2 front polk t15 speakers with pioneer SP C-22 center speaker, 2 ceiling Polk 10" speakers, and 2 rear Polk t15 speakers. The Denon does Atmos. So far I am pretty happy with it. But I guess if I get a new TV I would want a new receiver too right? Or would this be wasting money and I should just keep what i got till it breaks?
I thought I had an ancient TV a 2015 lg uf7300 60 inch no hdr whatsoever you have topped me !!
Please give comparison video on g3 vs samsung s95d.
Does Nvidia based G-Sync in Lg G3 better than Samsung S95D
As much as I would love to have a OLED I am a gamer and live on my TV off and on all day and night another great video Caleb
Yeah I would Grab Samsugn S95C if not getting U8N. Def NOT C3. C3 is seen as downgrade for a lot of folks thinking that its too dim. HDR Gamming tested PEAK at -480nits, its ridiculous, ppl have to like live in pitch black single life for that even on spring days. :)
If anyone is looking for a cheaper tv, I was at Best Buy yesterday and the TCL Q7 I believe had an awesome picture for a cheaper tv. I think it was on sale for $899 for a 75 inch! I didn't buy it, but just looking at all the TVs with a novice eye, it looked really good. Thought I'd pass that along because I'm new here, and looking for a tv. Don't know anything else about it, except it looked really good and was fairly cheap as far as 75 inch TVs go...
LG G3 is $2,300 at best buy now. The other day, Costco had the Samsung S90C for $1999 with total of 5 year warranty plus $150 Costco Cash. S90C seems like best deal now
Is gamma 2.2 better then BT1886?
Gamma 2.2 for well lit environments/some daylight.
Gamma 2.4/BT.1886 for dim to dark rooms.
OLED is king in a dark room Miniled is more suited for a bright room. Both tech are intended for different use cases.😊
only fools watch movies in a super bright room. Watching TV in a bright room is a superficial issue created by marketing guys to sell mini LEDs
The problem with ATV is it doesn't support all the audio formats the way Nvidia Shield does from my understanding. If the new ATV release this year supports the same audio, it's going to be an excellent choice over the shield.
It makes no sense to not be compatible with DTS. If they fix that, I will be willing to get it. For now, I have inexpensive firesticks (4k, 4k Max). For $25-$40 they're fine but I am interested in trying Apple TV box, if it was compatible with all popular audio formats. There really is no good reason for it not to be. For $100-$150, audio codecs shouldn't be an issue.
I'm an Android user and bought and returned the most recent Apple TV box.
I found it frustratingly slow versus Google TV to setup. I suppose if I was an Apple user I may not feel this way.
Given the price I just was hoping it would blow me away compared to Google TV but it didn't.
lol. I want accurate picture. I don't care how shiny, colorful, etc it is. I want to see what the director wants to show.
Yeah but you can get that image in the cheapest tv if you calibrate it. Why get a top of the line tv to get a flat two-dimensional lifeless image? There’s going to be no comparison between the filmmaker mode and the best-looking image an A95L can produce.
@@techsamurai11sounds like you got something terribly wrong with your TV. Filmaker mode picture never is flat. It has better depth and tone mapping with great shadow details.
@@Sas-wk9lj point me to a video where Filmmaker mode looks better than Standard in Warm 1-2 (ideally 1.5). Quantum TV has 1,000 videos showing how bad Filmmaker mode is. I changed my TV to cinema mode in Succession and the picture literally died - there's no other way to explain it. My TV would have looked like a TV from the 80s.
I can't even take Live Color off my Sony - it never looks better without it. I know it's not accurate but it looks better so it stays on. It's not like it picks an orange instead of blue, it picks a more vibrant color.
And I've watched everything on that TV from Rififi to the Hitchcock Anthology, to every John Ford Movie to a 1,000 series. And of course gaming isn't gaming without the TV in proper settings with Reality Creation on. In fact, Reality Creation is easily the #1 gaming TV feature of all time surpassing HDMI 2.1 by a mile.
@@techsamurai11 I'm sorry to hear you get ugly looking PQ when turned to filmmaker mode. I am coming from Samsung S95C perspective and believe me or not, I used to do a lot of tweaking to see which mode I should settle on until I found filmmaker mode to be working best especially for SDR movies.
However, I own Sony X95L too and I got it set at Dolby vision mode with reality creation turned on at 80% and live colour medium. I agree, without live colour on, the PQ is awful and reality creation manual setting is must for a sharper grainy picture ( for upscaled videos). When playing DV content, I don't touch the settings as it looks natively good with auto selection of 'Dolby Vision Bright'.
One thing that dramatically changes the literally bad/dull PQ to great is to set the Ambient Optimisation Pro/Ambient Light Sensor setting to 'off'.
Rififi is a great old movie (in b/w), I too watch some great oldies like 12 Angry Men, Hitchcock short TV series, Twilight Zone...
The question is in the price per inch for the Sony 9 make it the best for the average TV buyer
I thought Classy said the C4 was a significant upgrade from the C3? Especially with brightness gains.
No. Get the C3. In fact never ever get the current year OLED, unless they are offering some brand new tech like MLA. Otherwise the changes each year to the B/C are very small. Have a LG B7 that gets almost as bright as my C2.
Amazon has the *** 75" *** U8N on sale for $1499
As does Best Buy -- until the end of today at least. I'm torn between this and the LG C3 -- leaning toward the latter, as I don't have an overly bright space and watch movies mostly, no gaming. OLED stutter does concern me, though.
I tell you, you are making it VERY hard not buy a new 75 inch TV. My C6 is suffering burn in in the lower 5th, due to watching the news constantly during the pandemic. I bought it used and have never seen 3D better. I just want to hold out hope that all this great processing will being back 3D HDR.
Dude good for u. Yeah the LED has Advanced SO much. That MY 2021 U8G Hisense, makes my $1100 Ipad-PRO with the (M2 Chip, the same Chip in MAC-PRO) look like $250 cheap tablet. I am NOT making this up. Its shocking. They are so advanced in visual its unreal.
LG C3 65-inch OLED is on sale right now at Costco for $1600. I don't think you can beat this deal and is the Best Value Budget TV right now.
thankyou so much thats what i was thinking. i gathered my family to watch this video! thank you alot of fun! i am jake jake haha
Got a 65 inch G3 for 1,500 and the issues with lower than 1080P source materials are bad. My Panny Z series plasma blows it away. Regret not getting the Sony OLED
Came here to thank Digital Trends. Got a 77inch Sony A95L several months ago…my entertainment watching has never been better.
Would love a Shield vs ATV comparison! One example of internal streaming apps giving [slightly] better PQ than an external device would be in the case of Sony TV’s from 2020 and earlier. Sony TVs for 2020 and earlier did not have “TV-led Dolby Vision” capability. They only have “player-led Dolby Vision”. TV-led DV is supposedly better for PQ. (One exception to the Sony 2020 lineup was the X900 H which received TV-led DV via a firmware update, but that set had other issues, like no smooth gradation setting.) so if you have a 2020 or earlier premium Sony set Dolby Vision content may look slightly better when using the internal apps, although most people wouldn’t notice unless you had two sets side-by-side.
I have a X900h that I used a shield with for quite a while. The picture had such bad color banding that I hated the tv. I’ve since switched to an Apple TV4k, and my issues are gone. The UI is much better IMO also.
@@lifewithintergrity yea it’s ridiculous that the X900H didn’t have a smooth gradation processing setting. So even though it has TV-led DV it’s negated by the poor process, especially color banding. I have the X950H and I almost got the X900H instead that year. Glad I didn’t.
Sold my Apple TV 4K gen 3 box. Prefer LG C3 apps mostly as apart from Apple TV series or movies then there’s not much difference. Amazon Movies and BBC iplayer look far better on LG apps. However sound seems far better from LG apps when using LG S65Q soundbar.
I thought burn in wasn’t such a big deal on Oled’s anymore. Bought a 65 C3 a few months ago because a bunch of reviewers said not to worry about it. MY C3 is on for most of the day and is off at night when everyone is 💤🛌
It's true that OLED isn't the burn in risk it used to be. However, Caleb was just warning that certain users are still at risk if you're watching Fox News or CNN all day with the static logos and crawls 24/7. With my LG C1 65" OLED, I've had it over a year and a half with close to 8000 hours use and don't have any degradation that I've noticed. I also vary my content and when I do pause something for too long, my TV dims itself automatically.
I have a 55 inch LG C9 with over 16,000 hours on it. I have no burn in it has an awesome picture my use case watching cable TV Sunday to Thursday and Friday and Saturday watching movies and cable TV I don’t think you have anything to worry about as long as you vary your content.
Thanks caleb!
LEDs much better value than OLEDs at big screen sizes.
I have two LG OLED TV’s and they are fantastic. I do not have a mini LED TV, but I do have a mini LED iPad Pro and I must say that the the picture on the iPad Pro is just about as good as the OLED TV’s that I have. The only difference is that on the iPad, if watching something say with stark white lettering on a black background, there is a faint glow around the edges, but you have to look for it to be noticeable in my opinion.
If mini LED TV’s are as good as the iPad Pro, then I might would try a mini LED TV in the future. I have burnin on one of my LG TV’s and while it’s only seen on certain bright backgrounds such as red and orange, it’s not noticeable on anything else. With that said, burnin is still a bummer. I don’t know if the new OLED’s have solved this problem.
I have IPad PRO -- with M2 Chip . My older Hisense U8 makes my iPad Pro looks like $300 Walmart cheap tablet . I don’t. Understand why .

Maybe my older eys just don’ t work as well, but when I put a 4k HDR video on my Pro, to me it’s right there with my LG OLED TV’s.
@@Shaken_AND_Stirred hey do u have light color eyes? Like blue , green etc? Apparenlty Pale eyes as they slightly getting older they are MORE prone to light sensitivity. The pale eyes are prone to be MORE sensitive to lights. Around 1/3 popultion will see deep grey as more pale grey, beidge as white. Then the 2/3 population will see deep grey as black. Some interesting science . Brown eye ppl will MOST Likely see Mini LED as _incky black. The Blue eye ppl are MOre likely to see MORE blooming in LED than ppl with darker eyes.
I hear ya. I am medium brown eyes. (Most my Asian friends eyes Very DARK. My eyes always medium brown. I always have light sensortivitiy issue even tho I LOVE bright room, bright day. Even tho I am 20/20 vision) .
Dude do u wanna go eyes checked? Hey if i sound rude. Its on me. Just looking out for u. My mom had Lasik, she is suffering issues now 10 yr later. My grandma had CATARACTs. That light sensitirivy can be early simpton of Cataracts. Its Apparently best detect early .
I feel like douche bag now if cause concern. We all human being. Just want to show support. Its just TV but the Human is more imporant. :) NOT saying U need eye exam but AT least have eyes checked as “Baseline” n in CASE something something down the road, u can mornitor it. :):) thats important. I would for myself.

That is a VERY interesting observation you have laid out here and it is much appreciated! I have medium brown eyes and I’m 61 and as you noted, I see “inky blacks” both on my iPad Pro and my LG OLED TV’s.
I did not know any of this. It’s quite interesting the info you have giving about peoples eye colors and what they perceive in viewing.
I had considered LASIK, but after hearing some of the horror stories that people experienced down the road, I decided against it. Sorry to hear about your mom’s LASIK matter.
And no, I did not think you were being rude at all. In fact, I thank you!
Oh, I guess i didnt explain abut the blue eyes/pale eyes why they see more Bright color. Like for example the Nordic n ppl with pale eyes, often they have MORE Nervs in Retina 👁️ dedicated for WHITE color. Due to like i guess they need other hunt n like sun goes down early in northern part of Earth. Just human revolution. They need to find their way back home in sunset 🌇 not lost in forest 🌳 etc. so as eyes age, if there is Regina issue, like if there other nervs for COLOR are damaged. So eyes see everything as white n bright.
Often ppl have OLED think its so black. They watch TV in PITCH Black. Even an OLED is still very bright . Because TV is a--Light sourse , need to be treated as a LAMP/ light 💡. The THEATER room scren is NOT a light sourse. Its a FILM 🎥 screen that the LIGHT project on it n bounce on our eyes.
MOST of ppl buy OLED will watch tv in PITCH black. It can still cause eye strain. Because to BIOLOGY, we are STARING AT a LAMP. Also the distance Mattrs. Because staring at a 30w lamp up on the face is not same as staring at 100W lamp on the street from 40 meters away when driving .
I highly suggest u to get a like TV cart/with Wheels. Or maybe find way to set up TV to put it further in the ROOM. That it can let eyes able to watch more comfortably , also reduce any further aging related eye damange. Meanwhile. SET “COLOR” option in U8K all the way from (out of box 50%) to 70-80% it will have HUGE immediate differnce . Because i am just doing a guessing, because if u set U8K “Brightness” to Zero. It might not be the Brightness issue, maybe its the Color cells receptor on Retinna issue.
And believe it or not, it would be MORE helpful if u get a warm night lamp at far end of room. Then having TV LED light strips, or lamp at Back of TV. So your eyes are staring at tv in a SUNSET 🌇 visual background than staring at a Harsh bright 💡 at pitch black.
Our PHD professor explaiend to us the TRICKS. (How to see better in dark room watching tv.) when the room is luminated slightly than pitch black, your eyes can WELCOME in MORE light n more relaxed n see MORE color.
So a LOT of dudes here ACTUALLY WATCHING TV like TRAINED by --GRANDIOCE CZcams uncle clubs that “OH I WANT theater ROOM EXP” n they are oging to Man club mock me because me went to science program will make the stash look like shi. A LOT of Gammeres Play Video Game in PITCH Black, staring at 27” 32” monitors even its NOT that bright, as 20 yrs from now, they can have all sorts of issues.
I was also recently deciding between the Hisense u8k and the LG c3 (my C1 motherboard went left 3x 🤷🏻♂️) and I went with the u8k. Not because I needed the brightness or leave the TV on all day but because I wanted to move up to 75 inches and the price gap between the u8k 75 and c3 77 is HUGE ($1199 vs $2499). I've been an oled owner since 2016 and mini led is astonishing! The biggest draw back to me is how Bright it is. Even on energy saver and 0 brightness, it's BRIGHT
What !!! I have never had my U8G have the brightness down beneath 20% usually they r at 30s n 40s at night.
0 !!!!!!😮 Do u sit too close to the TV ?
Sometimes too close to TV can even cause issues ! Like looking at a lamp from far it fine . Tv is a light source .
N how large is your TV ?
Do u watch in pitch black than having night light /lamp
@@Yoga_Tv_buying 7 to 8ft away from 75 inch u8k
@@ThornTheaterReviews omg that is SOOOOO CLOSE. U need optimal 10.5-11 feet for 75” (for bright tv), maybe if its like OLED DIM tv, like 10-10.5 can work fine too. But like its a Distance ISSUE>
1, Theater IMAX is projection on a large Screen, its a reflection. Its ONLY OKAY becasue its very-DIM, low in Pop, n only 2-3hr once like 6 months. IF u have IMAX extremely bright, n u sit close at like even 5th, 6th roo. Still will burn your eyes out.
TV is light-SOURSE. Completely NOT same as Theater. The BEST tv watching experiene is how we treat it as a LAMP. A 30W lamp at night in pitch black wil burn eye. But at SUNSET some lighting still best . Like using iphone with dim night light better than in Pitch black. When staring at light SOURSE, THEATER 🎭 tv watching will Make eyes fatigue. N actually will make you see LESS color but lots white litght. Becaues eyes lose way to focus due to fatigue.
@@ThornTheaterReviews Dude u wont get this from anywere on the most TV chanels. MOST guys into tech didnt take biology n didnt have their research scientist to explain how EYES can go Blind watching tv. So in case I am trying to explain something its just said by professor 👩🏫, i am passing info. She was trying to coach us that watching TV is completely different than Theatre. That often ppl want feel the PEAK of theater experience by forcing the Narritive . It cant work that great because 1 is projection tv , 1 is lamp ACTUAL light source. Strangest but Mots beneficial info years later I am so grateful to have.
That a Bright 30W lamp on our face still will be too bright at night, but a 100W streetlight u stare at it from far away its NOT so bad. So 1st of all its too close to Tv.
2ndly when TOO close to TV especially 75”. Your eyes 👀 go from left to right up n down zoom in zoom out constantly. Switch scenes . That d tinny muscles on pupil get fatigue ( like marathon). It seize up. Often keep doing that a few months later ( like if u keep run 15 km a day without leg rest, there will be scar tissue form in the pupil muscle ) slolwy it will be more limb. That will prefent your eyes to shrink or expend efficently. Slolwy your eyes will either do 2 things when its too OUT of focus, since if u sit too close to tv, it will try to force focus , the eye ball will become longer n hallow --creat short sightedness. NO.2 the EYES since too CLOSE to screen the tinny muscles on pupil fatigue n seize up. U can NO longer focus or RESTRICT amount of lights from scene to scene cause WAY too much lights to come in the eyes. Since even tho u turn down the tv, but since its TOO close to tv screen your eyes are tyring to Focus on things TOO close to eyes(when its OUT of focus) thats tremendous amount of strain.
U NEED size 55’ to 65” NOT 75”. 6-7 feet is BEST 55” . Even 65” need at least 8.5”. Dude, I AM SERIOUS if u find it too bright its NOT its too bright, its too CLOSE.
I have 1800 U8G 65” i have my tv on 10-13 hrs a day everyday. N I turn them VERY bright. Because actually i got lucky our professor enlightened us d Optimal way to watch tv. N warn us WATCHING in Theater pitch black will make us go Blind especailly if too close. Even if u turn it dim. The thing is its PAINLESS. No feeling. If eye pupils muscles (micro size) stiff up, you turn our tv down , no use. If keep watching the muscles go stiff, the lights laser shotting landing at Retina, it will ruin your vision forever over time.
U need to get MUCH smaller Tv !
@@Yoga_Tv_buying might have to go back down to the 65 inch
I tried a apple 4K and nvidia shield on the Hisense and it still sucked
I’ve been following this industry for decades. There’s a review embargo and all you’re getting are Sony talking points. Wait a month or so and notice how reviewers will start casually saying it’s not as good as OLED because of the reasons we already know…
I like the Fork-A OLED
The Bravia will be brighter and better for daytime and well lit environments, while the oled will be more accurate and better for darker rooms and movie watching. Also, oled quick response makes more sense for gaming. I think that oled can already get bright enough, or will be there eventually. Why bother with anything else?
Streaming quality depends on codec and bitrate. Generally I don't think internet streaming will be better than a bluray anytime soon.
I switch from LCDs to the 42” and 65” C3 and my experience with Lg has been better
Have all OLED now. But I would love to have a Bravia 9!
Option begets confusion -the reason why many people aren't sure, confused and fall back on expert opinion to help them decide which TV to buy. I can justify my purchase of a TV only if it significantly stands out from the rest in PQ. Period.
