For me the minimum is to have a new sensor and new codecs that support
- 4K in crop mode (S35)
- Open gate readout and anamorphic desquize with all existing ratios
And a mike input on the body
And a native monitor fixation that supports the weight of the FX9 loupe

An FX6 II would 200% be a must buy camera
Binge watching your videos lately. I am about to invest in the FX6, and I have been contemplating whether or not I should get 2 AV Pro 1 terabyte cfexpress cards, or an atomos ninja v+ with a 2 terabyte sd. If you could only pick 1 of those setups, which would you go with? With the ninja setup you get raw, a big screen and 2 terabytes that can handle all but the 4k slow motion. with the cfexpress cards you get the slow mo but no raw, no screen, but a smaller setup (which may be bad for handheld stability). Thoughts?

I dont know the work you do, but I have found time and time again, not needing an external piece of gear or set up to complete a task is always better. I find the ability to turn on a camera and its work indispensable. Granted I shoot a lot of weddings so your milage may vary.
Having more flexible codes like we have on the Fx3/a7siii would be amazing. Also having proxies in camera lower than 1080p.

Great ideas man, I have been debating on upgrading to the FX6 or just working with what I have and waiting a year for the mark 2 to come out. I know there are already lots of rumors out there about it

Hello Kofi. quick question I need to update my FX6 to the Firmware 3.00, the problem is that I still have version 1.00 and in order to update I need to install version 2.00 but it's not on Sony's site anymore. Any idea how to go by updating the camera?

I think camera companies have said it’s impossible to have Ibis and internal ND’s unfortunately. But if they can add that new digital stabilization from the ZV-E1 I think that could be a cool compromise
Correct, it would be great to have both internal ND and IBIS, unfortunately they both need to occupy the same physical space in front of the sensor.

Audio in other than the top handle - I do double system sound with my FX30/Sound Devices MixPre3 II, record mix scratch track with video - use audio recorded with MixPre in edit (WAV file). I'm unsure about the timecode with FX6 but the FX30 can be jammed sycnd..

For me I really need both genlock and timecode for VR work. Right now Sony is really only allowing the Venice for VR work but not everyone can afford that. Everything else you said are also great additions, especially with the current competition happening right now in the sub-10k arena.
I am not fully aware of all requirements for VR work, but the FX9 has genlock and timecode support. Granted it is not sub 10k, unless you buy used, but it's substantially closer to the mentioned 10k budget than the Venice ;)
@@MichaelKefeder You are right the FX9 does have that however the need for the $2500 XDCA attachment as well as the initial price of the FX9 of $11,000, which is now just over 4 years old, really takes it out of the running. Today for $13,500 you can get 2 Komodo cameras, both with global shudder or the new Komodo X rigged out. You can get a URSA from Blackmagic for $6,000. A Kinefinity, Canon or even the Panasonic Lumix has genlock for under $10,000.
I hate to say it because I own 2 FX3's, 1 A7sIII, and an A1 camera but Sony is really starting to not be able to "read the room". Unless you want to buy a Venice. Unless you are a CZcams creator or blogger, then you can have your pick of Sony cameras that will work for you.
I hope sony start going for 6k recording or the video line ups (a7siv and other camera that will come with it) but I also agree with the down sample and the rest of the points you have. FX6 mark 2 would sound exciting with all the feature you said.
Even if we get half of that it’d be great 👍🏾
I think they cant implement IBIS because there is simply no space between sensor and E-mount for both internal ND and IBIS to fit together.
E-mount is really really close to the sensor. It could work with something like EF mount that has tons of space since it was designed in mirrored cameras era.

@@KofiYeboah personally i prefer a sensor without IBIS. the stabilizer sometimes creates weird jellos you cant really turn off when there is no sensor lock option.
I think the gyro data is great. I havent tried sony's catalyst yet on my a7siii but my blackmagic pocket also has gyro and Davinci natively can stabilize using that data. In some cases it almost makes the footage look like it was shot on gimbal.

I don’t know if Sony will come up with a version two,it’s still selling very well.I would like to see a new handle and a software update.I’m sure the FX6 is a lot more capable than what they are giving us firmware /software wise.

I believe you can’t have ibis & internal NDs or if you can it’s rediculous let large & expensive.
I’d love a good quality 5 inch monitor that gives me full control over the camera, touch control & anything else a ninja or small Hd gives me. I hate having 2 monitors on board. ( would be happy if this was a paid extra)

To fit the extra processing power & hopefully an inbody xlr input remove the bpu most people don’t use put the power in there & then put a swapable battery mount on the back so vmount, gold Or bpu.
And for the love of us all build a good quality scratch mic in!
And if they stuck with the stupid audio handle at least make the audio portion of it removable with a ribbon cable to the on board connector so
We can mount that onto a cage or other handle like The tilta one etc!

There’s some things firmware can’t fix, like the audio issue, nd filter, sensor resolution and menus. A mark II would make perfect sense for the fx6 at least

Your point about the ND being too much of an initial jump is my biggest daily nag tbh.
An xlr on the body would be nice and perhaps a down sampled 6k sensor so it can do super 35 in 4k.

I use and love the FX6, but even at it's launch I felt the FX6 just got the leftovers from the a7sIII dev team frankensteined with some leftover FX9 features. The a7sIII really refined the bugs and quirks of the a7sII, but the FX6 is very clearly a first gen model. Menus are a mess, usability like the no audio without handle, no anamorphic de-squeze, no XAVC-HS, and other weird quirks are the growing pains of this new(ish) generation. I'm very hopeful Sony will polish up these issue with the next generation, but happy with what we got for now.

Some of the stuff are left out to protect FX9, which has even more flaws. For example, FS5 already has XLR input and EVF on the body but they took them out on FX6.
But isn’t xavc-hs an software update possibility? Or do you need to have certain type of hardware. Honestly thats something that I really miss xavc-hs 100/120fps for sports

If they put a 6k sensor in the FX6 it would be pointless to buy. The reason for the lower resolution is to take advantage of it's low-light capability. Higher res means lower low-light performance, thus making the FX6 pointless. That is a single operator necessity. If you lose that, you'll need a crew, lights, etc. The FX6 is a low-light camera with bells and whistles. A 6k senor currently can't gather the light. So if you want 6k, just buy an FX9.
So what you’re saying is that Sony in a perfect world would have to make a sensor that can do both ? 😅 sounds like we’re on the same page

In my opinion - did you ask for too much? Absolutely not. The fact that other competitors are making HYBRID cameras be more "cinema" than Sony cameras that literally have the word "Cinema" line written on those cameras? Its kinda laughable and I think Sony is shooting themselves in the foot with alot of what other companies are releasing right now - especially at their price points. I have alot of friends who have already sold ALL their sony cameras and lenses and completely moved to Panasonic. To be honest? All the features you mentioned should be in the MK1 of the FX6 already. Its a "cinema" camera. I want to see sony still be one of the top brands in cameras, affordable cameras, and a company that makes a camera that has the word "Cinema" written on the body of the camera....actually be "cinema"
Here’s the thing , I think we but I T.O. ecosystems not just a camera on its own, even with a lack of features , the fx6 was so demanded that it was back ordered for like a year , so they did something right, just weird that things left out were kinda silly ahah
@@KofiYeboah yea thats what im getting at, its just very strange to me alot gets left out on their FX line of cameras. Me? Im a big FX30 user and just bought my second one because I just love the camera and its form factor for what I do, but not having DCI 4k 24P? Not even the FX3 having it? Im not understanding why Sony is just taking the A7SIII and throwing the guts of them into different bodies. And most of what we are asking for are "features" not even changes to the physical camera. Most of the features arent even the crazy tracking features thats in something like the ZV-E10...just basic "cinema" features you find on other cinema cameras. Thats all. My big one with the FX30 right now is shutter "speed" and not "shutter angle", its really annoying constantly changing shutter speeds when I change frame rates, when I should lock in an "angle" and my shutter angle remains the same as I change my frame rates. I just find Sonys approach to their FX line a bit....odd. Don't get me wrong these are FANTASTIC cameras, but it just lacks a few things all they really need to do is release an update for to remain as a competitor
