    As a vet of 12 years in photography and filmmaking, the one tip I would give to my younger self is to seek out paid training opportunities. I hear you that there aren’t a ton of FX6 education related videos here on YT. We are spoiled by the availability of free gam online, but sometimes a quicker route is a course or workshop if you have access to them in your city. Sony puts on a lot of events where I live, as well the film schools and colleges.

      @ChristianElia  Před rokem +1

      thank you for checking it out! excited to hear you picked one up. honestly the exposure was one of the trickiest parts to me also. i can definitely try and discuss this in a video. if you want a short tip though, make sure your waveform is on your screen and then set your zebras up. the zebras will create orange lines on the waveform that you can use as a guide. for s-log3 i set zebra 1 to 65% for skin tones or 41% for middle grey. i set zebra 2 to 77% for highlights. so if you keep everything on the waveform between the lines that the zebras create, you should be pretty good. you can customize the zebras to be whatever you want though. hope that helps 🤘🏼

      I understand it takes quite a lot of effort but at least, give people a chance to go back and use the videos as a reference for longer than the current limit period without incurring in an extra cost. That's my take on his videos.

      i would not get the FX6 as your first camera. i’d get something like FX3 or even an FX30 to make sure you want to stick with it and continue investing. and then once you eventually decide you want to move up to an FX6, you can use your first camera as a reliable second camera. while the FX6 is awesome, it’s going to be a very steep learning curve and a very expensive investment if youre just starting out. i’d even look at something like the FS5 ii or the FS7 ii. those cameras are basically what came before the FX6 and they are still very good and widely used cameras that you can find for much cheaper these days. and it’ll be similar to using an FX6

    • @ChristianElia
      @ChristianElia  Před 11 měsíci +1

      i definitely think it depends mainly on the type of work you do and what youre willing to sacrifice in order to gain in other areas. there is no doubt in my mind, the FX6 is the most efficient camera on the market. it can definitely be a dream to use for a solo operator.
      but, you will be giving up some nice things that the p6k delivers. things like internal raw, other codec options and the beautiful blackmagic image character. i think the image on the FX6 is also amazing, but just something to think about.
      you will gain amazing autofocus when you need it, incredible low light capability, full size XLRs, a much more well designed body for video work, and a lot of great lens options.
      both cameras are awesome but like i said, it will depend on the work you do. i will say though, i think its hard to be disappointed with the FX6. it is an insanely good camera that is so easy to just pick up and use. if most of your work is solo stuff then i think it is a great choice. i have been extremely happy with it!

    I shoot corporate video. I have both cameras. My FX-6 is my A-Cam and my FX-3 is my B -Cam. I agree the cost go up exorbitant ly when you move into the class of cinema cameras. Such as $280 on a GDU V-Mount battery, $398 for a 160GB CF Express type A card, A Tilta battery plate and Tilta top plate totaling $200 plus the camera cases….the list goes on and on. Once you get into the cinema camera class expect to spend big to complete your rig, it’s not like the Mirrorless cameras…the cost goes up on every accessory.

    • @TelevisionCrews
      @TelevisionCrews Před rokem +1

      Come on! Stop complaining about the cost. In the days of Betacam cameras, those cams cost upwards $25k just for the body, not even viewfinder or power supply. Then the first HD cameras came in early 2,000, and to do corporate videos I remember I invested in a $40k camera (no lens, no viewfinder, no power supply, no nothing except the body, everything you had to buy additional). Today's cameras are a thousand times better in quality and super cheap at less than $10k !!!
      And in today's dollars that $40k camera would be much more.
      People are getting really spoiled these days.

      I love everything about this comment. I think people who are just getting into video are spoiled by the whole $3000 DSLR/Mirrorless setup and the loads of inexpensive supplies and accessories. Video ain't cheap and once you move up from the toys and get your first 'big boy' camera, there definitely is some sticker shot. But I'd rather pay $300 for a reliable memory card than going cheap and getting hosed out in the field. Hell, it beats the dropping a few hundred $$'s for a box of 20-minute Beta SP tapes that will wrinkle and go bad in three months. This new crop of photogs have it made...born at the right time.@@TelevisionCrews

      i’m honestly not interested in higher resolution at all. if they release an FX6ii i’d just want it to have audio inputs on the body and more codec options and i’d be happy

      open gate would be a great addition to this camera. there are a few weird things it leaves out, like that 3.5mm audio jack and the lack of false color as an exposure tool. really wish it had false color built in

    I am debating between the FX6 and the Ronin 4D, both are overkill for what I want to do but those two are my options, what do you think?

    • @ChristianElia
      @ChristianElia  Před rokem

      i was looking into the ronin 4D for myself actually when researching for my next camera. what it came down to me was my style and the type of gigs i’m wanting to do. i’m a very handheld type shooter so i didn’t want that gimbal stabilization all the time. also, the FX6 is just very popular on small film sets and corporate/commercial productions. i figured i’d have more of a chance of getting considered for that type of work with the FX6. so it really comes down to what industry you’re in and how you’ll be using it. the 4D is arguably the coolest and most innovative to come out in several years though so i don’t think it’s a bad buy

      @@ChristianEliaI can second that. I switched from a canon c70 to Sony fx6. It’s not bc the image is different, it’s bc my clients (production companies) need people to fit in their established Sony workflow. And It’s easier to get hired if you own/know their products. So far I am so happy I switched. Tons of minor conveniences that make a more enjoyable shooting experience.

    as film maker, If I have to carry my camera and doc some footage, I probably gonna to pick up my riged fx3 instead of fx6, I use my fx 6 only for coporate and event work on tripod shoot under controled environment, which nearly never need to use internal ND. And I carry my fx3 to more complx environment, which always need an vnd in front lol. The thing I hate most when using fx6 one man band is that giant handle, which I never use anyways, cuz If I use fx6 in crew, I always have my sound guy that record sound externally, and If i'm going to do one man band, I need smaller size, especially when I have to walk in forest, mountain ,or travel to some really remote place. Carry that giant handle just for sound and no 3.5mm is just so stupid. And the camera size is also not friendly for one man gimable. Neither for public recording like in bar or church. In conclusion, I can probably get any of my work done with fx3 either riged up or naked camera with ease, but nearly half of my stuffs can not be done, or will cost way more effort if I have to use fx6. FX6 is a fantastic camera when use under controled environment, BUT for any one man band film maker out there, fx3 is more than enough, and probably better in nearly any conditions with or without rig.

      That's why we have options. I have the FX6 and the FX30 and they're the best of both worlds.
      I don't agree with some of your points though. The FX6 is way more comfortable handheld and if you're not using the top handle, my guess is your shots are not very creative.
      Also, I use it on the RS2 and it's very easy to set up. It's even possible with the handle on if you need audio by powering the cam externally or by using the wireless mic connected to the hot shoe.
      I think this is more of a case of what you're used to. I'm used to camera bodies for almost 20 years now and DSLR/mirrorless form factor was always awkward to me.

      @@lukastemberger ye I think I use my camera document a lot, so low profile, and small size always wins in my side, fx 6 is really good, the handle is indeed good in hand, but it's the same like the top handle, too big, and waste my bag space, since I have to carry them a lit, anything such big will fight with my food, battery, water supply, etc. which is brutal, if I carried an handle instead of enough water, It will be a super rough day for me, and my project won't allow me to be creative at first place, survive and made it to the finish line is always the first priority for my type of shot. I love fx6 with all my heart as well, still use it if I can, and not selling it anytime soon, I'm just saying that fx3 actually can get most of fx6's job done, which might be better option for none hardcore users.

      i hear you. the FX3 is the better choice anyway for several types of gigs. after having the FX6 for a year and a half or so now though, it is the best camera ive ever used by a mile. the body design and hand grip alone makes it miles better in my opinion, and it's something you really wont appreciate until you use it and really get a feel for it.
      i do not miss rigging out my A7S3 and i still dont rig it whenever i use it today other than adding a v-mount battery. hand grips and figuring out cables and everything on a mirrorless/FX3 type system is truly a pain for me and i never enjoyed it. i never had a rig i was happy with. the FX6 out of the box plus the tilta v-mount plate is ready to go for literally anything and it feels perfect (to me).
      the ND is another thing that you wont see the beauty in until you have it. it sounds stupid and pretentious but its true. i truly hate having to use the screw on filters on my A7S these days. i use my FX6 whenever possible bc the variable ND with zero color shifting is an actual Godsend.
      i wasn't planning on going this long with the reply lmao but i started thinking more as i wrote this. at the end of the day use whatever you are most efficient with and what you like using. i knew what i liked and didnt like about my setup and the FX6 answered most of the requests i had. it is a very badass workhorse of a camera that will run laps around literally anything else on the market as far as efficiency and all-around capability goes. i firmly believe that.
      does anyone need it though? of course not. the A7S3/FX3 are still 2 of the best cameras on the market in their bracket, and you get the same image as the FX6. we are all winning lol

    I actualy used the fx6 with some g master primes and I loved the handling but the image quality was so bad. I shoot in 10bit slog and it was hard to get some of the highlights back in post. And the skin tone had a green tint.

      @ChristianElia  Před rokem

      that’s interesting! i’m always extremely happy with my image. i do agree that it’s hard to recover highlights sometimes. i feel like some other people i’ve seen with the FX6 get more dynamic range than i do, but i also know it’s most likely my fault and i just need to learn how to grade better. sony definitely has a green tint sometimes but it’s pretty easy to fix in post or in camera by shifting the tint.

    • @ChristianElia
      @ChristianElia  Před rokem +1

      yeah, its a big bummer, and it has caused me to still use my A7S over this camera a good bit in situations where i just can't be eating through so much data. it seems like it could be a simple firmware upgrade to add some of the codecs from A7S and FX3, but i doubt it'd ever happen.
      one work-around i've found that can be a bit useful to save space: you can shoot in the smaller XAVC-L 8-bit codec and still use slog3 if you bake in a LUT to the output. i use Phantom LUTs mostly, so I'll bake in the Phantom Arri Neutral LUT to the footage. this way i can still shoot at ISO 12800 and get the low light benefits of slog3. you just cant get too aggressive with more color grading in post.

      i mentioned in the video that the FX6 may not be for some people. it’s a lot of camera and can definitely be overkill. but for certain film sets, you won’t be considered for them with an alpha camera. they’re great and i love my A7S to death, but upon moving to the FX6 and experiencing more of the professional features and ergonomics, i think it is a great decision. i do client work every week and have noticed a clear better experience since getting the FX6. also different tools for different jobs!
