  • This v mount battery alternative is one of those few options that are not talked about.
    In this video I share my experience using this v mount battery alternative which is pretty affordable and also a useful v mount back up especially if you already have a few Sony NPF batteries hanging around

    Has anybody ever 3d printed a vmount dummy cover for a vmount npf battery adapter (to cover up the 2 npf batteries and give it the look of a vmount battery)

    hi, this is very helpful.
    So, I'm"still" shooting with a Gopro Omni VR rig. In the past I used a Bubblepack 65v dtap to my rig. It worked. But these batteries are not very good and both of mine are dead now.
    An alternative so far for me is a Core SWX Hypercore-98S
    But then I came across your video and I thought this would be a great and much more affordable option.
    Could you suggest a battery ?
    thanks

    Great video! This is helpful for me as I am looking for power options for my gear and rig. A question, is there a D-Tap converter so you can use a dummy battery for your camera to plug into the V mount array you displayed?

    • @HakimZziwaTips
      @HakimZziwaTips  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey man, thank you for watching, dummy battery option would depend on which camera brand you got and whether that camera brand has an adapter to D-tap, so a little bit of amazon digging would help see if one exists.
      Other than that there is no universal adapter for every camera to Dtap in the dummy battery sense.

      I have 2 x Charmast 28600 mah batteries on my Sony A7 III, got a set of rails and have a mounting plate that they attach to. One Runs my A7 III and the other my Atomos Ninja V monitor, now that means that each device has 5 x the battery life that one of these batteries can output. And That is for 1/2 the given weight of this setup. Just use a USB PD power bank and a 12v power pipe from Blind Spot for the Ninja, and another USB PD power bank with a 8v power pipe leading to a dummy battery.

      The NPF option still works for sure, I do carry it as back up on every shoot for sure, but with the recent more affordable mini v mounts, they more priority to me now, they did not exist at the time I made that video.

    How long this battery runs

    • @HakimZziwaTips
      @HakimZziwaTips  Před rokem +1

      It depends on what NPF size batteries you attach to the dummy v-mount if that is what you referred to.
      Also the 95wh v-mount in the video shd run you a good 2hrs+ depending on what resolution you are shooting, how long and whether you have attached any other accessories that may consume power.
      If it is camera only, you can go all day or a good 4-6hrs.

    I keep getting a “use new ac adapter or reinsert” message and the camera power off. I have replaced the ac adapter cable and still keep getting this message. Any idea what it may be???

    • @HakimZziwaTips
      @HakimZziwaTips  Před 2 lety

      What camera are you using? some times some cameras are not designed to support third party battery options or may be you would have to dive into camera settings and see if there is any option for power.
      I would think of the V mount option as powering the camera directly from a power source or mains supply, so some cameras support that arrangement and some do not.

    • @phillismable6303
      @phillismable6303 Před 2 lety +1

      Take out battery recharge for 20 mins
      The. Reinsert the battery and then turn on the camera
      Some batteries dont work with some cameras, that’s why I use a PD power brick with a blind spot power pipe and dummy battery 👍
