I'm a small YT creator and also a photographer/hobbyist. I think you passed over one very significant event in 2023/2024 at the lower end. I shoot my video on a Nikon Z6 I (the OG) and although the Z6 III looks really exciting, I don't need it for my studio talking head shoots. But I got really excited about the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and just caved in and bought one. Wish I done so 6 months ago. This camera is taking the general purpose vlogging and content creator market by storm. For a good reason - like you, I just never could get into using my iPhone as a casual video camera. It just never felt "right" in my hands, even with FilmicPro and now BlackMagic Camera App that makes it prosumer/pro usable. I also think the rigging and build-outs by some iPhone shooter fans just doesn't make sense. The whole point of using an iPhone is a quick grab-and-shoot video camera when I don't want to lug around my mirrorless or any bigger rig. The DJI Pocket 3 is perfect for that. Set it and forget it configuration and rapid turn it on and start recording with no muss, no fuss. Best thing, as you say, doesn't eat up my iPhone battery, my iPhone is still available as a phone, notepad, or even a bigger camera monitor (via DJI Mimo app connection), and the 1 inch sensor on the Pocket 3 is a huge improvement over the sensor in all smartphones. I think the Pocket 3 is a technological breakthrough that flips the iphone-versus-dedicated-use-camera away from the iPhone (if you ever had the flip pocket camera before smartphone cameras were a thing you'll get the pun!) iPhones and Pocket cameras will evolve, and the race might change again, but looking as the massive adoption (invasion?) of the DJI into creator, vlogging, and general use you can see this s is not just another body or camera in the ever increasing pace of new gear coming out.

something tells me the a7s4 wont continue the lowlight lineage anymore , which would be kinda sad , since the z6iii is basically the a7s4's beta testing

VO actors are getting replaced. AI gets better with more data. Using this feature will lead to it getting better over time. Not a knock against you for showing off the beginning of the end.

I think what we should also talk about is the current economic state of the world. Cameras and this media industry are becoming way more accessible than before while still giving high quality products. An entrepreneur can now create their own marketing material without relying on a contractor or hired professional.

Very insightful video. To be honest right now I want camara companies to prioritize open gate and internal RAW (at the same time). The flexibility for Open Gate is so useful for clients in the social media space. My wish is that the Sony FX3 II has open gate 6k 60fps internal RAW.

I have the fx3 and a7siii , they are so versatile for shooting Real estate which is what I do ... for social media purposes the a7siii takes amazing photos as well ...

Well done, Kofi. I now have two S5iiX's, bought for open gate, fan cooling, hour long continuous recording in the sun on hot days. I'm loving the reliability, detail, cropping freedom, and color grading flexibility of the 6k full frame 420 10 bit files compared to what I used to use, which was either micro sensor camcorders or m43 photo-centric bodies with a record time limit and no fan.

I don’t understand how it’s 2024 and “video professionals” still say things like “well if you want a wider shot, micro 4/3 has a 2x crop so it won’t work”. What?! Do people not understand theres lenses for micro 4/3 that give you a 12mm full frame equivalent?!?

So am watching this video in 2024 June 30 and I want to ask please does anyone know if the fx6 now has 10bits when recording 1080p or other lower res cos am seriously considering get the fx3 instead

Hi! Thanks for the video man. I recently saw your video about the Lumix GH7 and I may ask you a question on which camera, in your honest opinion, gives you a better over all image quality? GH7 or the Sony a6700 ? In image quality I mean. Better dynamic range, low light performance, detail rendering etc.. I don't shoot RAW I just want the best out of 10bit 422 option like 24p and 60p that's all I need. Would very appreciate your honest opinion because I preordered the GH7 and I might cancel the order for a Sony A6700 or FX30 instead. Thank you in advance for your answer. Oh and I forgot to mention the Autofocus is also very very important for me. 😊

Something that I really got over was lower T stop numbers. Anything lower than 2.5 your background is distractingly blurry. And for a lot of scenes 4 and higher are going to show off your scenery or production design a lot more. I just watched Percy Jackson on Disney yesterday and man do they want to show off those T stops at the expense of everything else. But I do want 8K, and I think 12K on medium format is the next step. Even if you are oversampling down to 4K you're getting a much clearer image, and by oversampling you're getting natural noise reduction without the side effects internal processing has. Arri says in their Signature Prime video they have 8K and above in mind so even they see see the benefit of higher resolutions. I personally am looking to upgrade from my S5 not to anything new, but to a Sony Alpha 1 and using it with a Ninja V to record 4.3K raw so it bypasses the internal noise reduction.

Why are you not uploading in 1440p or 4k?

What I want: 1. Dynamic Range. 2. Low light capability. 3. Rigging ability. I use the Canon R6 OG and it's just lackluster in DR, color and rigging (micro HDMI SUIUUUCKS). When the FX3ii drops, I'm getting a used FX3 because the price will drop.

It's great seeing all these new cameras at different price points being dropped. Despite the complaints that seem to surface with each new camera, the fact that we have more choices, and more affordable choices, is a win in and of itself. Regarding the criticisms of these cameras, I find similarities with film critics. Often times, film critics will attack a movie simply because they don't like how the story is told. As if there is only one way to tell any one story. They ignore what the filmmakers were trying to achieve. The same happens with cameras. People complain about features they say are "missing" from a new camera. Ignoring the price of the camera compared to other cameras with the feature. The Blackmagic PYXIS comes to mind. People complained about it not having internal ND's while ignoring the fact that it was 1/3 the cost of its nearest competitor, the Red Komodo X. Anyway, we can talk about the good and the bad of cameras and their reviews. In the end, it comes down to your case needs. Some people just need a ZV-1 for their CZcams videos. Others are more serious filmmakers who want more out of their cameras. Which means higher costs for the additional features. Thanks for the Sunday drop, Kofi. I always look forward to your content. Really like this video! I have been practicing cinematography the last couple of days in a mini film sound stage. Been using the FX30 and I own it, really like it but feeling limited more doing narrative films. Thinking of getting of a Red DMC2 camera since I don’t really need 6K or 8K for narrative films or maybe looking at the FX6.

Micro 4/3 is light, small, relatively inexpensive for a kit, and makes a lot of sense. I've used it for stills and video since 2015. Lumix may have found a niche in the pro market with the GH7 as a B or C on an Arri set. But many of us are still photographers who also make videos of events, or training content, or commercials for TV and cable, or low budget films... We have no need for the Arri Log C3 feature, but there are plenty of features in the GH7 we WILL use. Full frame is great, but who wants to spend $13,000 on a 600mm lens when an $1800 Micro 4/3 100-400mm lens will reach further? Maybe you need full frame at dusk in the woods, or in places where you can't/don't have auxiliary lighting, but in many places, the GH7 will do. Like you, I can't wait for a new version of the S1H with features similar to the GH7 (plus a few new goodies). The great news here is that a small, light, inexpensive, rugged camera is workflow-compatible with high end Arri pro gear, and that has many use cases. When the footage drops into Resolve and works just like what came out of an Arri, it's an efficiency win. Maybe you mount a GH7 in a dangerous location where you would be reluctant to sacrifice an Arri. Maybe you use three GH7s and an Arri for multiple camera angles in situations where four Arri cameras would be cost-prohibitive. It's a nice option to have...
