Bre Rob oh I'm aware of the etyomology of the names. Tyrone, Jermaine, even putting "La" in front of otherwise normal names is rooted in the anglosphere.
Bre Rob another fun thing to do is to trace back to the possible reason why Afros took a liking to names that were normally given to Irish and Scottish folk.

Meh. This is just a funny anecdote about something that happened to him. It doesn't demonstrate standup ability whatsoever. None of his comments was especially funny - what was funny was the Subway campaign.
His standup ability comes through in the timing of the story. The pauses and emphasis on certain things makes the story way funnier.

Jon Batiste pissed me off in this. He almost ruins the whole bit by disagreeing about Jerome being a black guys name, thus undermining the premise of the joke and forcing Tom Segura to do a whole "Well at the time I didn't know him, I had this crazy notion that Jerome was black guys name" thing to try to get things back on track. Disagreeing with a comedians premise is a good way to ruin a joke.
JoelMatton definitely agree - but great comedians who have "made it" are quick and sharp and should be able to recover from something like that. It's a douche move given the TV time constraint but Tom pulled it off beautifully. This was a good interview to watch how much work a comedian does really need to do to showcase their craft properly.
