      Most of the Anthony dick riders simply don't understand the concept of complementation. They actually think more is more, as if having more Anthonys would always be better. But this show has demonstrated that Anthony needs a veteran radio producer to stop him from aimless rambling. I don't care if Opie was funny. There'se a reason sports casts aren't hosted by two color commentators.

He's still my best bud but he has his life and I have mine. I moved out west and he has a family. It's not like I hate him but friends, even best friends grow apart over time and its not a reality most of us want to face. (Tough to get off the routine of listening to Jim Norton on the regular, but there's Vice to satiate me for now). Anthony, you were the one who originally lured my interest, and your interaction with Jim became the catalyst of my daily listening. Opie rarely contributed any comedic, social, or political perspective(s) that provoked or captivated me. Sorry. Raw talent is just that.

      ***** He's had some good lines. They're rare, but they exist.
      One I can remember is during a Jocktober there was a prize giveaway of tickets to a children's play, and I think Jimmy made a crack about the so and so production of "hair", immediately Opie said "no, hairless."
      I think it's unfair to compare Opie to the typical radio hack. He's not a comedian by any stretch, but I respect what he's done for the business and for discovering Anthony and putting him on his show. I think the fact that he's surrounded by so many hilarious people makes him seem that much more unfunny/uninteresting by comparison.
      I don't love Opie, he makes me cringe quite a bit and I personally feel like I have a lot more in common with Ant, but I think the amount of hate he gets is a little ridiculous.

      While that might be true, no one can spot talent and build a radio show quite like Opie. The reason Ant and Jim are radio talents is because of Opie, and a big part of why we had priceless hours of other comedians like Patrice on the show. All that might not lend well to the on-air stuff, but at least give the man credit where its due.

    Whenever Anthony called in sick or was just going to be out for a day, I knew I wasn't going to enjoy the show much that day. I wouldn't miss a day before Ant got fired as I subscribed to the show via Audible for years and since getting a new car with a 1 year free sub to Sirius I was thrilled to be able to listen anywhere, anytime. In the last month I've probably listened to O & J for a total of an hour. I think the reason being that Jimmy and Opie are so misinformed when it comes to a lot of current events that it's painful to listen to people who don't know what they're talking about. When they have an interesting guest, it's listenable. Anthony on the other hand is pretty well informed and just interesting to listen to IMO. Not sure I'm even going to subscribe to Sirius when my free sub is up in February.

    They've been together for 20 years, of course things changed, especially since Opie's at a point where he cares more about his family and free time than proving anything or whatever. Ant went a different way, dating young women, flashing money a little more, etc. Their personalities are quite different, but it's true that Ant and Jimmy together are amazing. Opie doesn't have to be there, but it is nice when he helps move things along. If you remember, when Ant is alone, he does tend to have room to grow in terms of timing, changing topics, etc. With guests, he's the man. He can not only riff on things and play on comedians' jokes but also be the serious guy keeping a guest on the line while others fuck with him. I don't know, I think definitely Ant and Jimmy have the talent, but Opie practically made both of their careers so weather it was luck or not, that's something. At the end of the day, I think Opie feels like Ant kinda moved on and is waiting for Ant to invite him to his show. I don't think he'll invite himself as Ant's show is separate from O&A now. What's Opie supposed to say? "Hey, you could use more humor, have me on"? He's used to running the show, he's never been an amazing guest on other people's shows and I think he knows that. Personally, I see Sam taking over O&A and "making" guys like Dan Soder who's probably the closest thing to a third mike right now in terms of how he fits in with the shows (Sam's and O&A). Hopefully Anthony will join them again one day, but seeing as they won't even let Troy on the air after so long, you never know...

    Anthony is producing a show that is the same quality (better in my opinion) than Opie's show. And Anthony is by himself in his basement in Long Island... Opie has every advantage over Ant. He has a studio in Manhattan, works for a huge company that can get him any guest he wants. He get's Jim Norton, plus a full staff. Just imagine if Ant stayed and Opie got fired.. You think Opie could do all this from his house? Hale to the naw. He would probably work for some terestial radio show and do some hacky shit.

    Anthony AND Opie started what became the golden best shit ever on radio. People, myself included just don't like seeing that team broken up. I still listen and watch both shows and their good... But still not the same but what can ya do? Still would love to see Opie guest at Ant's house and if ever possible, Ant guest on the whatever show on satellite. Jimmy does them both, and I love him too, but he's trying a little too hard and the dick/ass eating jokes are starting to get a little repetitive and annoying. But, that's just me. He's still great. Dats my two bits on it all.

    The listener is confusing bad blood for a friendly rivalry. They came up together through radio, are both now rich and famous, and probably always wondered who was actually the better radio personality. Its normal. They're friends and former co-workers (or were), its to be expected.

    Imagine hanging out with your best friend for 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, for almost 20 years. That's enough to put strain on ANY relationship. It's especially hard when you both grow in different directions and you have opposite lifestyles. O&A(&J) need to get back together down the road. I like both shows but they're just not the same. I believe Ant when he says there's really no "bad blood" between him and Opie. They just need this time apart to breathe and do their own thing.

  • @markl8760

    O&A was a great Franchise. Was always a Stern Fan, but these guys were truly innovative and entertaining. Having said that if there were no A I wouldnt have listened for more than 10 minutes one time. Opie struck me as a petty, mean, ego maniac and a load for all to bear. Unless that was his talent or act, he seemed like a real douche. Anthony on the other hand was a riot. Funny, quick wit, great characters and voices etc. No denying together they were like PB&J, but Anthony with another straight man would have a shot, Opie as a solo or even with norton is snooze radio. Unless Opie was a big part behind the scenes, because his on air contributions were negligible.

    • @mihaeltomasovic
      @mihaeltomasovic Před 8 lety +1

      +Mark L Opie was more of the professional who took care of all the shit behind the scenes, as you suggested... therefore, his on-air performance didn't have to be worth a shit because ant + guests or jimmy would take care of that... but when it was just Opie and Jimmy, it was *not* _nearly_ as good as when ant was on with jimmy...
