      I hope you weren’t worried about creative redundancy. This was a great video. And a textbook example of just how a single topic can be successfully addressed by multiple creators. The chubby electron mover does a good job of making light of the subject, and drawing awareness to the topic. You on the other hand, have done a great job at giving the context and details that he was missing.

    I was on board the USS Enterprise at the time. I was working as an E-2 data processing tech. I'd only been on the boat two weeks when OP PM launched. Every berthing and office had a TV. Two channels, movies or flight deck ops. Watched the A-6s, A-7s and EA6Bs launch loaded for bear. It was badass! After the planes departed the ship, hit the gym, ate dinner, then went to bed. We worked 12-hour shifts, 7-days per week. The aircraft were back on board when we woke up late that afternoon. We watched a recording of aircraft arriving with racks empty. It was an exhilarating experience. I've seen the Operations Room video and will check out the Fat Electricians. Thanks.

    Okay, Earnest Will was my time in the Gulf. Although I missed being part of Praying Mantis directly (dang it) I was involved. Cappy, you pretty much got it right, or at least as I remember it. In fact, I had forgotten about shooting down the two Phantoms. It was a busy day. You are spot on about the US wanting to kill the Sabalan, particularly the CO of the ship as he was known to direct fire onto the bridges of merchants to kill as many infidels as possible and then brag about it. There was disappointment that we didn't get him personally. One tiny correction. Your graphics team did a great job on the images of the US warships involved except that you had the old USS O'Brien DD725 - a WWII ship - instead of the new Spruance class O'Brien DD975. Very different ships to an old surface line officer's eye. Still, a very strong and accurate recap of the fight. Well Done

That event has so many confounding conditions that we straight up had to tell the Navy; "No, we couldn't model that." There was a guy who crawled into a disabled generator and operated it by hand. They actually had to stop fighting the fire for a bit to dump seawater overboard. Nobody died because the helo had been pulled out onto the deck, and was on standby at the time the mine went off. (The initial explosion basically would have shredded the chopper it it was still parked in the hanger.) If I someone had written a survival story with all of the coincidences, heroic acts, and counter-intuitive (but correct for the situation) leadership that carried the day they would be called out as an utter hack of a writer.

    • @avarion9538
      @avarion9538 Před 3 měsíci +16

      As a German, sadly you can't compare Germany and Poland. Germany's military isn't ready to fight. Most of our stuff , 2/3, istn't operational. We have ammunition for just around 3 days of war. Our jets don't fly, our tanks don't drive or shoot and even if you look at things like our Taurus cruise missles: Out of 600, just around 150 work. The rest is useless for now.
      Poland, on the other side, just bought over 1.000 modern tanks and over 500 HIMARS. Germany has something like 250 tanks in total, max 80 - 90 are combat ready. Poland is, by far, the strongest forcein europe right now, and on land, they are stronger than Germany, France and the UK combined.
      Germany is just in a bad shape. We have the money, but our politicians ruin it. Burocracy also.
      France probably is in better shape, it's not possible to be worse than Germany. The UK usually cares for it's military, but Poland just added more tanks, than the others have combined. Also they bought, like mentioned, 500 HIMARS, but also over 600 howitzers, around 50 jets, and they will buy close to 100 Apache helicopter. They will nearly double their number of soldiers, and will have around 300k, and they will nearly double their military spending to 4% of their GDP.
      As a German, it's very frustrating to see our politicians fail, because we decided to spend at least 80+ billion per year on our military, and 100 billion extra to make the Bundeswehr combat ready, but while all others buy weapons, we don't buy anything, and inflation and burocracy eats up the 100 billion we wanted to spend. Atm just about 80% is left, and we bought nothing. 😭
