    If Louis and Armand are dead set on selling their story, they need to decide whether "Lestat is so possessive you have to kill him to become free" or "Lestat just leaves everyone he loves" is true.

    This is my favorite episode so far. Justin Kirk is playing Raglan James. James is a very interesting character and he is linked to a very powerful organization that monitors vampires and witches and all forms of supernatural. We finally got more Lestat. I know everyone loves Louie and Armand but for me it's all about Lestat. He's my favorite character in modern literature! Enjoyed your reaction as always.

    As much as I enjoy Dreamstat and all his commentary on Louis psyche just by existing (and his singing voice of pure velvet my gosh) it was such a treat to see the actual Lestat again doing his thing even through the lens of another suspect storyteller. Watching him own the stage in the french theatre and haul that huge crucifix over his shoulder into the crypt so he could dramatically shatter it on the floor just vividly reminded me how much I miss him.
    Also true or not, it's so funny to me what a thirsty lovesick doormat Armand paints himself as in the storytelling. "Yeah Lestat mocked and rejected me and dismantled my coven cult so I followed him around open-mouth staring for months and let him rail me in a public theatre box. Then Louis brought his crazy ghost along on all of our dates and had a reckless breakdown mürder that put the rest of our vampires at risk, so I defied the whole coven to let him live without joining us because he batted his sad eyes at me and invited me upstairs."
    Delainey Hayles has been a great Claudia so far but this was her best episode yet in my opinion. I just love the little ticks she gave to convey Claudia's pain, like her shaking hand she had to steady to apply her lipstick when first discussing Bruce. All commendations to her.
    And even with all that Sam the vampire theatre tech explaining the rat box was my favorite part of the episode. Like I have worked in a theatre I know that exact tone and manner of speaking he is using to tell the newbies how it's done. It's so spot on and it's to instruct on how to dispose of their bodies via rats.
    (Also I saw that "You are not qualified to talk to me" shirt. Very nice)

      "thirsty lovesick doormat" should be Armands tagline like yes he is this big powerfull manipulative kinda insane vampire but he is also incredibly desperate and needy when it comes to someone loving him (which became clearer in ep 4) and i love that he's not this twirling mustache villian, none of them are which makes this show so interesting

    I love that you pointed out the, i guess it can be called the study. Or library. Or Louis "Zen" room... but yeah the absolute metaphor of that room, the symbolism. I love that you've beautifully equated it to Louis. There's a beautiful tree, the only living thing in the penthouse. Perfectly manicured, but specifically placed in what can be described as a display. Secluded to one single little spot. Then theres sunlight shining down on it, but artificial and very specifically controlled to a singular purpose and place. No windows... then the surrounding is all stone and hard material, cold, lifeless, monotone. White light. Then the creeping vines on the wall, coming from an unknown source and "creeping" ever closer to the besutiful tree. And the book shelves, aka the source of knowledge and information. Being kept literally out of Louis reach, accesable only by Armand.
    Edit: I wanted to say as well... thankyou so much for actually loving and caring about Louis. Thankyou for being compassionate and empathetic and understanding about him, as a character 🤗

      from the beginning the whole apartment has made me wonder if louis is allowed to leave. Also Dubai seems like a place Louis wouldn‘t be comfortable in. Every time period we have seen him he liked to mingle with people and experience culture. His business in NewOrleans, exploring Paris and going to cafés, in the 70s going to gay bars etc. He likes color and people, he can at least from the outside live through. That’s how I see him at least, yes he’s also depressed but he likes to be around humans even as an outsider.
      So Dubai feels like Armands space. It really makes me wonder how much Louis wants to be there.

    • @RowensARTstudio
      @RowensARTstudio Před měsícem +2

      @niaaaaaa. Oh man, I agree with most of that. But it's for whatever reason hard for me to properly articulate my thoughts, I'll try my best...
      That definitely is Armands Penthouse, I have no doubt at all about that. It has a cold, crypt, asylum feeling about it. Armand is very VERY detached from humans and life. Louis is not, and never will be. It to me from the beginning of season 1 has reminded me of a display case or a pretty enclosure. Like a well kept... not exhibit. I've always thought the actual color in the place is Louis, the tree Armand himself commented on was literally put there because their exterior designer felt Louis was "missing the outside world". To which Armand had a very telling kind of chuckle at. But there was alot of info in that small little exchange.
      Getting to whether Louis can or can't leave, and if it is Armand or Louis keeping him there. I personally don't think he can, and I think if he can he doesn't want to. The same way a hermet chooses to stay inside, even though they can physically leave. But I do think Armand is keeping him in, but I also think it has more to do with being convinced that he's "protecting" him. Afterall, Louis did break every Vampire Law there is. It genuinely isn't safe for Louis outside. Or at the very least that's what Louis believes and/or that's what Armand believes or wants him to believe. But I do believe Armand is keeping him there, although I could very much be wrong. I don't think Louis is comfortable there. I mean he doesn't look comfortable there. But Louis is also a person who chameleons and adapts to the companion/partner he is with. I wholeheartedly agree with you, about Louis loving music and color and soft things, soft warm lighting, art, etc. He is and will always be the most human Vampire, he flourishes and thrives around life. In all its variations, same for Lestat. Which is why I think that tree definitely is symbolic of Louis himself... there also is something to note about Armand and this penthouse. Armand controls literally everything about it, with that little iPad. And I mean everything. So whether it turns out to be true or not, theorizing that Armand is actually keeping him there, in some shape or form. Is honestly not a stretch at all. We are just gonna have to wait and see, because Jacob confirmed that we won't be returning to Dubai after this season. So one way or another, Louis is leaving there by the end of the Season 👌🏽

      .. pretty enclosure sounds accurate lol
      yeah maybe he has convinced louis he is protecting him by keeping him there, but then again why would he allow daniel to basically help him commit su*cide by breaking the laws, idk
      but i think louis once said he likes to know people are around even if he isn’t a part of the group, dubai is wayy to individualistic and just isolated rich people doing rich people shit, i hope at the end of the season he‘ll be able to go to another place again, out of all the versions except maybe his human version when he still had to hide who he was in the beginning he seems the most lost and broken in the present i feel

      @niaaaaaa. He said it in S1 when he was talking about the interior decorator, while setting out the diaries for Daniel... and about Louis and the interview. It's so difficult to properly describe, but Armand has control clearly, but I don't think it's in the way that people think. I think if Louis wanted to leave, Armand wouldn't stop him. Canon Armand at least, show Armand may turn out to be a different beast in that way. We don't know yet. But what Armand does isn't exactly physical "control" it's persuasion, it's mental games, its manipulation. Its very subtle and arguably gentle. Pressure but not force. Presence but not action. Etc. Not sure if I'm making any sense. But all in all, we'll have to wait and swe

  • @tiffanymarie5674
    @tiffanymarie5674 Před měsícem +1

    I think it's very clear that the tree room is Armand's room. The fact that in season one he called it sentimental is wild. Like you said, there's definitely something about the tree and how maintained and 'perfect' it's kept. What I find most interesting, however, is that the bookshelves are hanging and the lowest one is too high to reach from the ground. That means those books are only for people who can fly up to them, which is only Armand. It's almost like Armand purposely keeps information/knowledge from Louis. Which just. Wow.
    (also Daniel I know you're sick but how did you not clock that, who has bookshelves like that??? Especially after learning that some vampires can fly, but Louis cannot)

  • @nininoona
    @nininoona Před měsícem +23

    Just to clarify, Armand and Lestat were together for a while (Not just a week). Lestat basically manipulated Armand, using his loneliness against him, to trick him into teaching him the abilities that (up until this point in Lestat's history) seemingly only Armand could do. The moment he got what he wanted, he bounced and the only compensation for it Armand received was the chest of gold/jewels. As if that would be enough, to sate Armand's dejection. "Never say I love you to a raging narcissist." is such an apropos line.
    Edit to add: I have found that every time Lestat's "ghost" appears this season, you really need to pay attention to his wardrobe. In the scene where Louis and Armand are walking by the river, the outfit Lestat is wearing is the same one from the church scene where he gives Louis the dark gift.

    • @RowensARTstudio
      @RowensARTstudio Před měsícem +18

      Keep in mind that what we were shown is only what Armand wants to be told and believed of "their" past. You cannot take it at face value was what actually happened. And the Lestat that was depicted is not actually Lestat, but Armands "version" of Lestat. The "idea" of Lestat that he wants/needs Daniel to believe. Never forget that he is just as unreliable a narrator as Louis or Claudia, only, for different reasons. The fanfic of a flashback was also meant to give you more about Armand, than Lestat 👌🏽

      Not sure where you read Lestat and Armand were together but it's not in any book I have read. Lestat's boyfriend was Nicolas and he did try to avoid him after he was turned so he wouldn't hurt him but Nicolas wanted the dark gift , eventually Lestat relented and turned him. Gabrielle, Lestat's mother was also with him at this time and she warned him against becoming a companion to Armand,so he didn't. It's Armand's resentment about this that he left her out of the story. He bought The Theatre de Vampires and left it for Armand to run and be a caretaker to Nicolas. We know how that ended. 😊

Is anyone surprised that Louis invited Armand upstairs after telling him about his history with Lestat and Claudia not living for long? I wonder if Louis's motive is to seduce Armand to convince him not to tell the coven to kill Claudia. Do you think Armand really loves Louis or is he using him to get to Lestat? I know Lestat rejected him and I wonder if he sees Louis as a prize. On a side note, Louis did not look like he was into that kiss lol

    Armand is an unreliable narrator because he fails to relate what happened to Nicholas, because that is why Lestat leaves. Also, Armand was, is and will always be in one way or another in love with Lestat. And a lot (not all) of his actions regarding Louis are intertwined with his love of Lestat and his jealousy of the way Lestat loves Louis.
