I love this version of Santiago. He's definitely not like the book Santiago. I think it has everything to do with Ben Daniels. I think his performance as Santiago is one of the best in the series.

Yes to all that. I can't hate Santiago yet because he's just SO COOL how he's portrayed here! I won't be able to stop admiring him until the very last second when he actually does what we know is coming. Amazing portrayal here, very good example of making the villain as captivating as the anti-heroes.

I have friends so beholden to the books they refuse to watch the series. Their loss I say. Having done adaptations myself... I think this one is stellar! I wish they could hear your speech in the end. :)

Yeah, I also have a friend who refuses to watch the show because it won't be a faithful adaptation of the books...her loss, indeed. 1000%

The truth is, the show stays pretty on par with the book characters, just set in a different time.

It broke my heart when Louis defended Armand when Claudia told him that he threatened her. And I feel so awful for her that each of them have put hands on her and choked her up. I agree with you that there's A LOT of manipulation going on here. I feel like the next four episodes are going to be🤯 That ending was diabolical! Great reaction and analysis.
    New sub!

Armand then choked Santiago. He's treating Claudia like any other coven member. Actually, he's doing her a massive favor and treating her special (probably out of love for Louis) by keeping her secret that she's been lying about their history and that she killed her maker. He has killed vampires for far less and less serious rule infractions.

It hurts a lot because there are family members who really would not believe people about abuse.
The writers sure are doing a good job with showing how abusive every relationship is,
I have to give them that

I agree with you about the positive aspect of remakes and re-takes - as a lover of the original Anne Rice books, I'm so happy to see such an imaginative version of the story done by people who clearly love the source material!

I love the design and the concept and the production of Claudia’s play. Very innovative for that period. I love that we see the devoted fans that are a nice and fun reminder of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” Very cool. We get Daniel’s story next week and I can’t wait!

Check out the 1927 theatre company, they did it (2 of the actresses vamps are actually from the company). It's quite amazing, right?

Love your reaction and your attention to detail I never had considered before, in this episode like Armand flying while Louis and Lestat walking was spot on and opened my eyes cause when I saw it I was just like how odd of him to fly lol But I can't wait for next episode, and looking forward for your reaction ! (:

I think that your point about their imbalanced power states (stairs and bookcase) vs Louis walking w/Lestat is interesting to couple with another interpretation--or another layer to understanding Louis. In the very first episode, Daniel remarks that Louis is giving two seemingly contradictory accounts of how he saw Lestat: he hated him and thought him beneath him [1st interview, show quotes it from the Rice's book] vs "I was in love with him and enamoured with his power" [this interview, show's own invention]. Couple that with Louis and Lestat in the photo room, show!Louis could be projecting a Lestat who was more willing to be a partner as people who get out of relationships can often imagine (to self soothe) a partner who they wish they could have been. And then he convinced himself that is what Lestat would have said before anything else. I think it could be both these things. Because Louis actually also says that Armand using his vamp powers at will and on humans also still reminded him of Lestat. Louis is fucked all the way up.

    1. I love your takes on the emotion and symbolism
    2. Based on Armand's traumatic time in the brothel he told Louis about, and Louis telling him that he used to be 'real good at runnin' things', do you think Armand is going to poke around in Louis's head and find memories/emotions about him being a brothel owner that are triggering for Armand? Since Louis's occupation is different than in the books, this is something the show can play with, I just wonder if they will.
    3. Your eyeshadow is distractingly lovely, and The Crow is also my favorite movie
    4. Is it me or did Lestat at the end (with his hair back) not look exactly like Brad Pitt's Louis in the movie? I feel like they recreated Pitt's exact look for Sam Reid. I wonder if this is a reminder that this Lestat (Reid the hallucination) is Louis (Pitt in the movie).
    5. Claudia's blue dress = Shirley Temple vibes like crazy

The fact they said he hasn’t been painted in 400 years and Louis took a picture that captured his vulnerability and they did nothing with that pisses me off 😭

Maybe armond is treating Claudia like that because she reminds him of lestat as much as she hates lestat she has a lot of him in her she is her father's daughter no matter how much she hates it

In the book, Daniel goes in search of Lestat after interviewing Louis but he finds Armand instead, Louis and Armand had broken up ages ago at that point so Louis was doing the interview alone. In the movie from 1994, Daniel does run into Lestat. But in the books its all about Armand and Daniel and their love affair which might actually be more fucked up than Loustats, and yet, I still ship both. Love your reactions :)

So it is starting to look like Armand is the actual horrible boyfriend. He is manipulating Louis version of his memories, keeping the books away, changing written words in Claudia's diaries, swapping pictures. Reminding him he never harmed him. UGH did Lestat even beat him up? Im questioning everything lol..... At this point I assume everything out of Armand's mouth is a lie. For all I know he was stalking Lestat while he was dating Louis and created this story. He is powerful and made a point to say they have been together longer... which raised that big flag.
