To say this was made in the 90s, the graphics aren't half bad. Plus, that awesome music helps make up for it - the jeff Wayne incarnation of this story has rapidly become my favourite. I'm very, very glad to know that there is at least one proper war of the worlds rts game out there, and I completely agree that they should do a remake.
This game was underrated and deserves a proper re-make. The AI was quite poor, especially the Martians. Far too easy to win just massing defences and lorries if you play as humans.
GeeW FM honestly I would petition for a remake of this which could span the entire world. as in, oh shit , London's down, let's flee to France. maybe Martian mode you have to deal with disease (and try to not get roflstomped like in the story by disease ), or more. hell, add in more voice acting. or you know, make a Jeff Wayne's war of the worlds Martian civ in civ v
Absolutely! It is surprising nobody went for that, War of The Worlds is not exactly unknown - especially after the movie recreation with Tom Cruise, seeing this game having a remake though people would love it double times.
Hell yes! That and a game of an entirely different genre: Some kind of survival horror game where you play as the Journalist, or some other individual caught up in the Martian invasion. It’ll be similar to Outlast and Alien: Isolation where the AI of the NPCs is super smart (as it should be for the Martians) and all you can do is run and hide, and it starts with the Martians overwhelming London. The protagonist is somehow left behind, either because he couldn’t manoeuvre around the swarming crowds or gets injured/knocked out and has to survive in the desolated city, hiding from the fighting machines and avoiding red weed, locating other survivors, maybe trying to find a way to fight back, maybe meet with the artillery man and attempt to fight back, and end the game with the death of the Martians on Primrose Hill. Something of that nature I’d preorder instantly! XD
I recently managed to get the game working through a virtual disk drive and abandoneware website and I haven't had so much fun playing an RTS in awhile. As I've been playing I've been watching your walkthroughs to figure out what to do and expect and they have been extremely informational and useful! The bridge tip with Human vehicles has been probably the most helpful tip of all, for both campaigns lol

Funny thing about this game. It actually inspired me to want to create special stories to make sure the enemies in the stories get seen in a video game. Right now, I'm actually thinking of doing some stories right now because of this game.

If I can make some money I might try and get this game (not that I've ever played it before) and try to defend the area near where I'm from, (a.k.a Dover which is where one of my friends Phillipa Baldwin, a.k.a, the Pipsonator lives) as best I can but I might try and defend *all* the territories as best I can but if I can't defend them all I can just defend as many territories as I can. Anyway, my family's kitten Owlwin (named after the female elf archer in Lord of the Rings) is up on my bedroom window sill right now and she's happily laying there like an orange and blackberry flavoured loaf of bread.
A shame this game never got the attention back when it came out. Was actually a pretty decent concept. It had major flaws and bugs but all in all it was a decent game. Major flaws for this one was the unit path finding, inability to create control groups and some balancing issues. If you were playing human you were at a severe disadvantage as even a basic martian scout machine can destroy 2-3 squads of Armored lorries. I find if you play as human if you want to stop the martians from advancing, move your available sapper lorries to the the front and immediately start building medium gun posts and fences. The one thing the humans have over martians is their defensive emplacements, which are a lot stronger since they are all artillery based. If they ever made a remake of this game but spread the conflict over multiple continents, it would be a great play. Still would keep it in the 1800s era though just for the authentic feel of it. See what kind of steam punk designs the developers can make for the humans with mordern graphics.

I'm not short on friends but whenever I mention War of the Worlds, the best I get is "that Tom Cruise movie?" - There's no movie version of Jeff Wayne's musical. We get more than one Sweeny Todd or Les Miserables but Wayne's War of the Worlds keeps getting skipped and the movies we do get don't have the guts to stay loyal to the book. I actually have this ambition that if I ever get filthy rich for some reason, the first thing I'll do is produce a damn good War of the Worlds musical movie because someone needs to do it.

As strange as it may sound, not too terribly long ago, my family's eldest cat Scooby (as in Scooby-Doo) actually witnessed the Martians' victory over the humans and that the Martians got the Earth to themselves. Fire leapt from house to house. The population panicked and ran and Super Scooby felt an urge to do a barrel roll and dive into the water to hide until forced up to breathe. It wasn't a disciplant march. It was a stampede with *no* order or goals whatsoever. It was the start of the destruction of humankind. Super Scooby didn't want to give up without fighting back and destroying as many of the Martian Fighting Machines as he could but despite that, the Earth belonged to the Martians.
To be honest ennard, i'm not sure. I have the original that didnt work. I remember burning the game onto another disk and for some reason it worked minus the music
7:34 - 7:35 : if you look well you can actually see a tripod..realized that in another video with better graphics..and on my pc..and than when the explosion happens you see another one..likely another..whats a cool detail
I don't really buy that England was Earth's only line of defense. I mean, if this takes place at about the WWI era, then wouldn't there be other countries like America that could stand against the Martians? Especially if they worked together! Am I right?
Book is 1898 and is invasion literature, rather anti colonisation etc, and Britain had the largest and most powerful empire at the time, so made sense to be in England
