      Born in 1976, this brings me back to 'stealing' my dad's records to listen to this album he deemed me to young for when I was just a lad.. ..wonder why he never thought I would, after his mom granted me to buy her top-of-the-line AKAI component Hi-Fi system for an apple and an egg when she found out she was turning deaf (my dad refused to believe she was, after all, it was HIS mother who was Wonder Woman squared but everyone else didn't think so)..
      ..but anyway, there I was, in my bed with headphones to big for my head, hiding all lights with towels and listening to this very record (mind you, English is not my native tongue)..
      I remember in my head all the cracks and pits as the music played through the headphones binaurally, enjoying every second of it..
      Thank you so much for triggering this awesome melancholic memory :) :) :D

    I made a “retro remix” of this fantastic album a while back based on early recording sessions, demos and anything else saved right from the beginning of putting the album together. It proved popular and received mostly positive reviews. I didn’t monetise (obviously because of copyright) and CZcams literally posted about 20 ads for one whole album play. I reached nearly 200k views and it was taken down, I got a copyright strike and it said it was given by Jeff Wayne. I have no idea why this came up after nearly two years but I’ve come out bitter from my experience. I even sent an e-mail to the address provided by the person who gave the strike. No reply to me. Such a shame.

    • @excrono
      @excrono Před 3 lety +1

      I’m really sorry to hear this happened to you, as someone whose just getting into this album, I would’ve loved to hear your remix. There are many remixers on CZcams (such as the great DJDiscoCat) that do something similar with mainstream pop/disco music from the 70s/80s (check out some of his Michael Jackson remixes incorporating amazing content from early demos). They are quite prolific and I don’t see them encountering any copyright issues (if they did they wouldn’t be around for years).
      Strikes on this site however can be enforced arbitrarily and capriciously by the rights holders. What’s tolerated in 2018 can be targeted in 2020. Unless (though it isn’t perfect) the content is officially licensed for play on CZcams via content ID. But even those licenses can expire and change. It’s entirely possible you had this up before these War of the Worlds tracks were licensed, so you’d be fair game for a strike by Jeff Wayne himself or his label had an objection.
      If there was a big problem with making a new, original remix with early material that they felt could be released commercially some day (i.e. it was TOO good) this could be why.
      Ultimately we are at the mercy of the rights holders whose tolerance for their content on this site could either be sanctioned for their own monitization, or aggressively taken down in the future (more so this if it’s not in the content ID database).
      I don’t blame you for being discouraged, lots of work was probably put into the remix, and it was successful to boot. Don’t give up! Hopefully get the strike to expire and move on to other projects and perhaps take more care in choosing content to remix (make sure it’s prolific on CZcams going back the last decade and its in the Content ID database).

    • @coecludd
      @coecludd Před 3 lety +1

      @@excrono Many thanks for your info on the complicated licensing laws on CZcams.
      The irony is that someone ripped of my album and posted on their CZcams page. It’s only had about 7k views on the last check, but my channel ident is still at the end of the video. I warned him what happened to me could also happen to him. I guess time will tell. 🤔
      If you type in “The War Of The Worlds Retro Remix” then it still comes up on CZcams search with a CZcamsr with non alphabetical characters in his channel name.
      Good luck and hope you enjoy it. 👍

    • @excrono
      @excrono Před 3 lety

      And as much as I seem to talk about Content ID matches, it’s very flawed when it comes to samples. Take one of my videos for example:
      czcams.com/video/5SV9AvpVzts/video.html
      This is an original theme/source of a sample used by a contemporary artist in the last 10 years. None of the production music from this company is in the Content ID database. So guess who gets AdRev for the video? Not the original artist… If it’s happening here it’s undoubtedly happing elsewhere on CZcams. Artists that are getting paid for sampling the music of others. And since we aren’t the rights holders I don’t believe a damn thing can be done about it.

    • @excrono
      @excrono Před 3 lety

      Also, did you try to dispute the claim on fair use/educational grounds? I haven’t been though this process myself, but if the claimant doesn’t respond after a certain period of time at various stages in the process the videos can stay up. This happened for John Drake’s Beatles remix of Its All Too Much. Beatles content is heavily policed on this site by UMG, and this manager to slip through their net as a result.

    • @excrono
      @excrono Před 3 lety +1

      @@coecludd You bet! I’m probably not fully grasping it from a legal standpoint but I hope it helped. I’ll definitely look out for the re-up of your remix! This is one reason I stopped putting identification to my channel in videos. If these get taken down I don’t want ripped copies coming back to me.

      Honestly this a very clean rip from records in excellent condition. The crackles and pops that are audible just get auto ignored by my ears at this point (having listened to lots of vinyl) and are actually an enjoyable part of the vinyl experience aesthetic.

      You can chose an SACD version of this album. Here are a compressionlessness and an original mastering.
