  • In this video, I'm going to model how to teach a 3 year old to read while working with a family currently using my courses!
    Check out my research blog series where I wrote more about whether or not teaching a toddler to read is developmentally appropriate or not, and why someone would want to teach their toddler to read at home. Check it out: www.toddlersread.com/category...

    I used this today with my class of three year olds. It was very effective. Some kids did it for five minutes, some for two minutes, but they all did it.

    This is definitely how a child learns! We play learn. He has so much fun and remembers what he learns

    Great energy, great body language, great proximity. All of this creates such an engaging response from the child. Well done! Let me just pin this for future rewatching. 😊

    You are amazing! On my journey to homeschooling, I began to feel burned out. Trouble getting started out of fear that I’m not good enough. I got in my head. Thank you for your kindness, encouragement and positivity. I’m pumped for the week ahead after watching this. A little goes a long way. Who needs school tables anyway?? ❀

    I am impressed at how Trip understands your super fast talking. I don't think as adults we realize what happens to the brain when you listen to and understand fast talkers. It's literally causing the brain to think fast as we try to interpret what's next. I am impressed to see Trip do that. Furthermore, my son is a 2.5 yrs premie born at 25wks. He knows his alphabets in English and Russian. He taught himself BTW. He can count to 20 and know 10 shapes and 15 colors. But yet he is not speaking in sentences . Instead of saying : I want my cup ..etc. He will just say cup. It's I stuck instead of I'm stuck or Its stuck. Will these steps assist us with this?

He starts speech therapy tomorrow,l. We spoke with the sitter. He will have 3xs reading time. See how that work out. Thank you.

      Every child is different my first loved learning and did 30 min 3 times a day (at 2 yr old) and my second daughter( @2 yr old)started with 5 min 3 times a day and more active games that required doing something, she eventually gradually did 30 min like her sister, adding 5 min each time i saw she was keeping attention up. Best way to know is by trial and error. Hope this help.

      There is no harm in spending quality time with your kid and positively teaching them how to read. Those people are either jealous or deranged, don't listen to them.

    I am just wondering why children this young should already learn to read. Is this not taught in school or is it more about the teaching overall?

    • @toddlerscanread
      @toddlerscanread  Pƙed 3 měsĂci +3

      They don't HAVE to learn at this age, but there are lots of benefits. Unfortunately, many children don't learn to read in school, or are behind which causes stress and a negative association to reading. It's ultimately up to each family, I'm just here to show the developmentally appropriate way for parents to teach their toddlers at home (if they want to).

      @@toddlerscanread thanks for your answer. It's quite interesting to hear that. I am living in Germany and here usually reading and writing is a huge part of the education in school. I indeed liked the way you are teaching the children as how you communicate with them is very engaging and fruitful :)

  • @Somedumbdudeontheinternet

    The adults getting mad about the idea of limiting children’s screen time are the people that spend hours and hours on their phones themselves

    I was surprised at how little she was giving him confirmation/praise when he got one right, is this intentional, like when you give too much praise maybe it’s infantilising a little bit? Idk I don’t have kids myself, but I thought that it was important to be really clear about when they’ve got something right
