- The people of Dún Laoghaire give their thoughts on the existence of the devil and hell.
People on the streets of Dún Laoghaire in Dublin are not entirely convinced the Devil exists or by the concept of Hell.
One woman interviewed does not really believe in the Devil and only believes there is a Heaven. Another woman believes in the Devil but
I don’t believe he’s got a big long tail and a big stick, but I’d say there is something there you know, there is a Hell.
A group of schoolchildren are very clear there is a Devil who lives in Hell. They believe people go to purgatory before their soul goes to Heaven.
Two women believe people go to Hell if they willingly hurt somebody or do something they know to be wrong.
One man interviewed is believes in the concept of an afterlife, but is does not think Hell exists. Another man had recently discussed the concept of Hell with his father. He decided that Hell did not exist because God is supposed to be all forgiving and therefore could not send people to Hell.
Another woman has not given much thought to the concept of Hell but adds
I really believe that life is our hell, you know, and we are living in Hell.
‘Where Do We Stand?’ is a five part series examining the challenges of handing on the Christian faith in Ireland. The series is produced by Fr Billy FitzGerald, Head of Religious Programmes at RTÉ. Each episode considers a different aspect of traditional Christian faith; the existence of God, the basis of morality, forgiveness and redemption, prayer and Jesus the risen Christ. During each episode, people on the street give their opinions on traditional Christian principles. ‘Are You Saved?’ is the third programme in the series.
This episode of ‘Where Do We Stand?’ was broadcast on 1 April 1979. The presenter is Morgan O’Sullivan. - Zábava
I adore these miniscule slices of a life long ago, I cherish my memories.
Aye. Cherish your memories and hope that you never lose them. After over 20 years of strong painkillers my memory is like a sieve and most of my past life is just a blur. Quite often I cannot remember things from one day to the next, and what makes it worse is when you know you cannot remember things. I kinda wish I had kept a journal now.
You probably dont give a shit but if you're stoned like me atm you can watch all of the new movies and series on instaflixxer. Have been streaming with my girlfriend lately xD
@Tanner Marley Yea, have been watching on instaflixxer for years myself :)
That would be an ecumenical matter
Lmfao nice one 😂👍👍👍

I love how she delivers the line with a shy smile, little laugh and a nod, she's thought it through.
@@cubecubesson6779 Hell is very real, this life is only a journey and it was never meant to be easy. Many Saints have accounts of the reality of hell. Satan's greatest trick was convincing the world he doesn't exist.
"For children are innocent and love justice; while most of us are wicked and naturally prefer mercy."
- G.K. Chesterton
Christ Said We Must Be Like Children To Enter Heaven.☘🇮🇪
These children are no way innocent. They are perfect in their conviction. Beautiful
Fook off with your auld child worship. A good beating daily keeps children in place.
A quotation wasted on many.
These little films are quotations from time - and time has added layers of pathos and meaning to them. There must be an artist somewhere who can see the potential in this material ...
Exactly why I'm here
Those young boys ... such innocence ... I'd love to know what they're doing now or how they think.
Jimmy Mcgraw is mad as a brush
Prob regretting going to those priests.
that woman at the end gets it
Filmed in Dun Laoghaire. Look how vibrant is was in 1979. The year of Bob Geldof and " I don't like Mondays " . ☘🇮🇪🇬🇧
Geldof is helping the devil nowadays by pushing the globalist agenda.
What? All I see is huge amounts of traffic and clouds of exhaust in the background. Looks like hell alright compared to now!
Dun Laoghaire was so busy and lively.
It would have been interesting to interview a group of people outside Trinity College, another outside Lourdes, and yet another in a pub on Friday night somewhere in Connemara.
😂😂😂
There's no one in pubs anymore except in Dublin.
The lassie at the end was a keeper. Beauty and logic
Her life is her hell.
What's going on there?

That girl at 0:22 who didn't believe in the devil reminded me of a what my first boss used to say of his youth. His mother sent him to Confession every month in the early 70s and he willingly went, and carefully watched and timed the girls confessing. Those in longest had the most to confess and were the best to date was his theory.
Sneaky. Did his theory work in practice?
@@freebornjohn2687 I have no idea but he was happily married by the time I knew him. And stayed that way too.

hell is a state of mind we inflict on ourselves when our ego is judged.
That last woman, preach! 👏
Perhaps no Devil. But there is Evil, no doubt about that.
"Life is our hell"...wow. Dark.
in times of wars, epidemics, droughts, pollution. Yes
The Devil as the embodiment of evil and corruption isn’t an idea I have a problem with. But God’s love is so vast that you basically have to want Hell in order to get there. The Irish are a deeply spiritual people, and I’ve never met any other group so capable and willing to discuss faith and belief with such openness and genuine interest.
Well thankfully Ireland has changed now and if they did this vox pop now they would get very different answers with the majority not believing in any of it.
Beautiful really. Makes a guy want to pull up a chair and share in the conversation.
The woman at the end sums it up.
"we are living in hell" she's a barrel of laughs ha
A few people have said this to me in my lifetime, but I will tell you this, the worst experience you could ever have here on earth is a fun time compared to hell.
@@t.t388 No, but many do. Many people have had NDE experience of hell and have said it to be beyond human description for total horror and terror.
@@t.t388 you clearly had a privileged chance at life if you can say that, in my opinion heaven and hell exist on this earth and realm, both of these are created by the men who wrote the Bible, which is in fact a fairytale. Enlighten us all with your story of the afterlife
I’m with her about life being hell lol.
more in these times
If you dont buy my product this is where you will end up,great sales technique I love it.
Well, we didn't buy it in the end. And now we are in hell anyway.
Hell purgatory and heaven is very real
Wasn’t there something really nice about the people.
Not stressed
I recognise Dun Laoghaire in the background. Hasn't changed much
I just believe that consciousness is special only to an organism that has the potential to store memories; with disease comes loss of place and from there we can lose all attraction for this world. Cya
Thankyou!
A country of atheists now. Easier to not believe than believe today. Too easy.
Keep the faith. 🙏
What faith are you dribbling about, a myth that was forced upon our ancestors to lead them from paganism. What do our kind have in common with a religion that came from a sandhole in the middle East.

@@obscureironwork2511 I assume christianity which has plenty to do with our side of the world. We do have a country full of atheists who baptise their child and confirm them just for a piss up. I believe in god but I dont see the need for a priest to confess my sins to. I have a relationship with God the father/Jesus. I respect other people's views. Lastly remember God loves you. God bless
In the thought lies the Devil
I don't think it's right to question children about hell.
why not? they gave better answers than most the adults
I, personally, don't believe in the "devil" as an entity, seperate, from people. People, alone, can behave worse than anything else that could exist. Some people are worse than any imagining of the "devil" could ever be. Of course, people seem to have come up with the idea themselves. Probably as a way to distance themselves, and thus lay blame on something besides themselves, for their thoughts and behaviors. Funny, the "devil" always operates through people, first or foremost. Makes me realize, it's usually a "people" thing, rather than an outside or "other-related" phenomenon.
Each man will be paid according to his worth.
the 2nd kid is Brian Cowen
Irish people accepted massive quantities of religious dogma back then. Everyone was either openly Christian or else had taken in the dogma and were parroting it. Most people fell into the second camp, not really religious but when questioned on things like the devil repeating the official line that they learned in school. Note that the boys are much more dogmatic about it as they are still in school but the adults are more sceptical.
Devil is evil with a d added. God is good with an o added
Ireland had no bald citizens in the 80s, odd that...
I believe we legalised baldness via referendum in 1994.
@@RobinKoenig1917 It was voted on the same day we voted to eradicate the leprechauns. But the ballot was badly worded “Should we not, not allow the proliferation of baldness?” Instead of keeping our follicular magnificence, we accidentally created a nation of slap heads.
@@Dreyno haha
There are certainly more beans than has beans nowadays!
Baldness in Ireland has an inverse relationship with religious belief. Something to do with god and the devil apparently.
I didnt know The Irish were Universalists! 🤔🤔
If this was recent times you could have said do you believe in Tony Blair
Tony Blair has converted to the Roman Catholic faith and must have a place reserved for him in Heaven now, as Boris Johnson has also.

This shows how poor catechesis was in Catholic Ireland forty years ago.
That wasn't what the priests put their main effort into.
The church has caused more evil than the devil
They also believed in Santa, Easter Bunny, Tooth fairy and whatever else stories there trusted parents told them to keep them in order
who you mentioned are not real?? Omg! 😱

Devil’s 2 day work in government
Into confession told the priest I was the devil got away with everything..multi millionaire now
He's never more dangerous when he doesn't exist. Whether you don't believe or whether you think you've defeated him for good. Lucifer gets this planet back in the end, and the God of Abraham creates us all an incorruptible one, too far away for the devil to be of any effect. But he doesn't perish. He's not mortal. Jahwey didn't make his angels mortal, and he was one. He was the caretaker angel of the earth before he fell.
It’s all bollocks mate, so obviously a man made nonsense.
Oh honestly
The greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing people he didn't exist.
