OMG!!!!!!!!! The final solo was cut out!!!!!!!! You MUST redo this one with the final solo. Itâs awesome!!! I about spit my soda out. I was so waiting for your reaction to the end.
Yes exactly. That was like the 3 minute radio cut.
The end is the best part!!
BRO, IM LIVID, I WAS WAITING FOR IT TOO
Master Class Guitarist
NOOOOOOOO!!! Do the lyric video from now on... PLEASE!!! Y'all missed the best part of the song!!!
You did not get the whole song his guitar solo is amazing
the alchemy â version itâs a masterpiece
Not even a hot take to say the end solo is one of the best solos of all time. Can't believe the video they used (it seems official?) cuts off where it does.
Dang! The guitar solo at the end is the best part of the song.
I second that...their performance of this song on "The Old Grey Whistle Test" is one of my favorite performance of all time
AAAUUUUGGGGGHHHH !!! The best outtro ever and it got cut off !!!!!
Ugh! Everyone is right about getting ripped off by missing the final guitar solo. It'd be like Eagles without the Joe Walsh/Don Felder dueling guitar solos to end Hotel California. You should do the Sultans Of Swing lyric video for Brad to get his fix and get to hear the ending solo at the same time. Well worth it!
Agreed. Also, they don't sound anything like the Eagles, aside from the fact that they tend to play "lighter" rock ;)
@@supertrexandroidx True and agreed but the reference was to the importance of the solo to the respective song. Not necessarily band to band though both are great in what they do.
Looks to me like the live performance must have steered greatly from the studio verson once he went off in the final solo. Which is common. And it would have looked quite off if you know anything about playing guitar.
For some reason this makes me so angry. Some of the best guitar work of all time and they cut out the best part. Lexi, Brad, seriously check out the live version.
Why does this Radio Edit version still exist? It must be destroyed so that future generations will know only the truth !
This version cut off the famous guitar solo... You definitely shouldn't miss out on that one. :)
Nice call
And it also cuts out an entire verse...
This version is 90 seconds short - the famous guitar solo was just starting.
Dropped the ball on that one lol
Hey, c, mon these two dont have a Friggin clue.
Oh noes!!!
The ending guitar solo is the soul of the song!
There's only one thing I dislike about this song: He does his best guitar work on the outro.
Brothers in Arms is one I think Brad would really like.
Brothers in Arms definitely ----powerful song
One of the finest songs of all time
I guarantee you that this music video was put together by some self-indulgent, know-nothing music executive. Nobody with any feel for music would dare cut out the best part of the song, which is Mark Knopfler's fantastic guitar outro!
YES! It's a SIN not to have that outro solo in there! It's one of the coolest, best constructed, subtle, surprising and delicious pieces of ear candy ever made. Well, as I like to say, "There's no stupid like management stupid."
I concur completely.
The playing doesn't line up in a lot of places either. Sloppy video.
His live guitar solo didn't compare with the studio version, it definitely suffered in comparison.
Yeah that really bothered me too! Thatâs some of the best guitar work youâll hear anywhere!
Someone stole your solo! Literally one of the best guitar solos ever.
Mark Knophler is revered by his peers, but never garnered the publicâs universal respect, as much as he should. And, yes: This video should be banned for not including the guitar solo outroâŠ
It probably didn't match up well enough. This was the studio cut overdubbed.
Absolutely
Iâm a little ashamed at how upset I got over the solo getting cut off like that đ€Ł. Like what were the people who made the video thinkin?
Some of the most tasteful and elegant guitar phrasing ever, so classy!
Must listen to the uncut version. One important note about this song he doesnât use a guitar pick. He plays this with his fingers
Yoooo the ending solo was cut out that should be illegal lol! Knopfler is one of my all-time favorite guitarists and this is one of my all-time favorite rock and roll songs.
I love his clean guitar sound. Excellent technique!!!!
Dang. You should have done the live Alchemy version of this song. Guaranteed to blow you away.
Yes, one of their best live recorded performances!
For SURE.
Yes, one of the best live performances ever and its not just my opinion. Amazing!
Y.E.S.
Absolutely agree. Alchemy Live has to be one of the all time greatest live albums ever released. Supertramp in Paris is up there and Joe Bonamassa from the Royal Albert Hall... For some more somber but amazing live stuff, check out Blue October Things We Do At Night live from TX. Have you guys done Peter Framptons live version of Do You Feel Like We Do from the Frampton Comes Alive album? Lex would go bonkers over that guitar solo.
They were still playing. Killer solo you missed
How did you manage to find the only video that cuts off the GREATEST GUITAR SOLO IN HISTORY? Why does this video even exist? It's the heart and soul of the song!
YOU MUST DO THIS LIVE FROM THE ALCAMY TOUR CONCERT! The ending solo is UNBELIEVABLE!!!
OMG! This video faded out just before one of the great guitar solos in rock history!
Truth.
Some of my favorite Dire Straits songs you should check out...."So Far Away", "Brothers in Arms", "Down to the Waterline", "Lady Writer", "Once Upon A Time In The West" and last but definitely not least..."Ride Across the River".
Don't forget Walk of Life and Romeo and Juliet
@@mikethemotormouth They already listened to Walk Of Life...and I forgot about Romeo and Juliet. đ
Brother in arms is such a great song.
Why Worry is one of my favorite chill at the beach or poolside songs
one of the best guitarists EVER ...his playing is so tasteful.
They cut off an astounding solo. When I was young, I really thought I could play, thought I was the cat's meow. Then I got into Mark Knopfler . He's a whole new type of excellence.
You gotta appreciate how Bradâs obvious love for Lex naturally inspires him to be her perfect âStraight Manâ - George & Gracie would be proud đ
Lexie is so cool! She really gets it early on and just grooves to the music. Brad always seems to be a deer in headlights, focusing on analyzing the lyrics and missing the whole composition and beauty of the arrangement. Just lost, and frankly kind of boring.
Mark Knopfler doesn't use a pick. He finger picks everything and that them that unique sound no one else has. Check out Walk of Life next you will both really enjoy that one.
No one except everyone else who plays with their fingers....his tone is much more about Amp, pickups, and effects.
OMG they faded out before the end of the outro solo!! One of the most original and great musicians of our time - Mark Knopfler.
There's a casualness about Dire Straits that lets you sit back with headphones and take it all in. Dire Straits, are the only band that I can listen to , relax, and read a book at the same time.. Cruisy guitar and base. Beautiful.
Thanks wikipedia. Mark Freuder Knopfler OBE (born 12 August 1949) is a British singer-songwriter, guitarist, and record producer. Born in Scotland and raised in England, he was the lead guitarist, singer and songwriter of the rock band Dire Straits. He pursued a solo career after the band first dissolved in 1988. Dire Straits reunited in 1990, but dissolved again in 1995. He is now an independent solo artist.
Knopfler was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and raised in Blyth, near Newcastle in England, from the age of seven. After graduating from the University of Leeds and working for three years as a college lecturer, Knopfler co-founded Dire Straits with his younger brother, David Knopfler. The band recorded six albums, including Brothers in Arms (1985), one of the best-selling albums in history. After they disbanded in 1995, Knopfler began a solo career, and has produced nine solo albums.[1] He has composed and produced film scores for nine films,
Dire Straits = Smooth. True sound. Mark Knopfler is one of the best on the guitar
YEP.
The sound of this song is Creole, with both Spanish and French influences.
You Missed One Of The Greatest Guitar Solo's Ever!!!
Lex has the most beautiful smile when she is really into a song.
Literally one of the best parts is the ending. Ouch
I've heard this song hundreds of times through my life but the drummers simple paraddiddle fill at 4:57 always gets me hyped for a quick second.
Lexâs energy is so infectious
Mark's solo on the outro is one of the most epic in rock history and the video cut it off. wtf
I seriously don't understand why this truncated version exists. Though corporate radio stations have started playing versions of "Sweet Child O' Mine" and "When Doves Cry" with the great instrumental parts cut out. These people think we're all idiots who can't focus on a 5 or 6 minute song I guess
The sound is legend, because Mark Knopfler is a genius, and his rhythm guitar playing brother accompanies him so well.
FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW, TWO OF THE BAND MEMBERS OF DIRE STRAITS WERE BROTHERS, MARK KNOPFLER-LEAD VOCALS AND GUITAR, AND DAVID KNOPFLER(on our right)-RYTHM GUITAR AND BACKING VOCALS. Different musical tastes for different people. For me personally this is one of my favorite 'rock' songs of all time.
Vince Gill turned them down.
Mark Knopfler was born in Glasgow, Scotland, but moved to live in Newcastle, England, from the age of 7.
"Guitar George" is George Young, older brother of Malcolm and Angus Young of AC/DC.
The Alchemy version is the one to check out, it has one of the most brilliant guitar solos ever heard, and the whole band is on fire.
Mark Knopfler is one of Britainâs treasures, a musical giant.
Mark makes playing the guitar look effortless. What he is playing is actually very complicated and hard to play. This is guitar heaven.
You missed the outtro, the best part!
That cut off the end of the song!
Seriously. You NEED to listen to the Alchemy Live version. Even if you don't do a video about it, just for yourselves. The solos, the drummer, the overall feel is frigging WILD. You need to hear and see it.
The "Live Aid" version is my favorite.
Leo Moracchioli and Mary Spender do an awesome cover of this song here on the youtubes.
You can't listen to this song without watching the Alchemy Live version. To me the greatest guitar solo of all time.
It WAS the best guitar solo of all time. And the performance of the drummer just... leaves me wordless (a rare condition for me) even after watching it a couple of hundred times.
@@otrame one of the best .hard to argue but then you hear Comfortably Numb
Of course! And Terry Williams đ„đ„đ„
And the drumming was awesome as well!
It's not the best guitar solo , but the best build up of all the guitars there.
Technically not as supreme as the studio version in regards to instrumental playing, but definitely one of the best live performances.
You can't help but dance in the end.
It's just an incredibly brilliant build up.
You got to hear the rest of the guitar work, Mark Knopfler is a world-class guitar player. Heâs a guitar player that even great guitar players look up to.
Yes I humbly recommend that you DO listen to the full version with the solo. Also, this song is based on a true story that happened to the lead singer. "The Sultans of Swing" was the name of a real band in London. He tells that story.
He was born in Scotland in Glasgow but brought up in Newcastle đâ€ïžđž
Alchemy
Check out Brothers in Arms. Such a chill sound. Mark Knopfler is one of three people that can bring a tear to my eye with just a guitar. The other two are Alex Lifeson and David Gilmour.
Man, you guys need to hear the outro solo. Probably one of the greatest of all time.
Lex has one of the best smiles on CZcams. I love your reactions - nice one guys
I heard they were in London and went to a local pub with live music and the Sultan's of Swing were playing. They had such a great time they wrote a song aboutit.
I really like Mark Knopflerâs Berlin performance of Brothers in Arms. He hasnât lost any talent in the 30 years since the original.
No, he hasn't!!! He was born with that gift!!!
Never realized how good the bass part is in this song, must be this version, love it, there is a long live version out also that makes you feel like you are at a concert!
One of the greatest songs ever cut short. Wow.
One of the greatest and most unique guitarists in rock and roll. Finger picker, very special.
Long version is definitely better... Knopfler is one of the finest guitarists ever... Great Reaction!
Damn, you missed the guitar at the end.
Everyone mentioned the outro solo. But watch when Mark Knoepfler is playing..he doesn't use a guitar pick. He does it all by finger with a unique method he created. He's generally considered one of the world's best guitarists.
Saw them live in concert in Houston, TX. Amazing performance
I think this radio edit is the reason why everyone alive back then HATES radio edits.
That was a travesty!!!! It deserves another listen.
You guys are so chill... & your girl is a keeper.. Bro you did well...
The video cut off the last solo! What a crime!!! That's one of the best guitar solos ever recorded!
Tom Wood said it first đ. This version has the second solo cut off. The whole song sets up the second solo! I'm calling for a do over.
aw WTF the music video ended before one of the greatest solo riffs ever written, and that's not an understatement you probably want to go back and listen to the album version.
one of rock's greatest guitarists!
To incorporate it into a song is amazing
Brad, I'm so bummed you said you prefer lyric videos. I love when you react to live performances. I know you have different concerns including being blocked, and focusing on the song itself, but i love watching you and Lex watch a live performance - where you get to actually see the musicians create the music. So I'll just sit and quietly hope for more. Thanks for your reactions.
Mark Knopfler has been solo now for many years and puts out some amazing stuff. Very poetic and reflective. This was kind of a weird video; the sound was a bit off and as other have pointed out they cut off his guitar solo, which is kinda the best part. His picking style is very distinct. This was from their absolutely stellar debut album. Another one without a bad song! Cheers
I listen to his solo stuff much more than i listen to Dire Straits. He's got an epic jam on the end of his song " Speedway's of Nazareth "
The song is about when the band was in New Orleans for a show and were caught i the rain. They went into a Jazz club to get out of said rain and found a band called The Sultans of Swing on stage and their observations from seeing them play.
Seeing this reaction makes me want to hear the whole entire song with the solo in the end.
Oh, MAN, that is a short version! You need the real cut to appreciate this song. The guitar outro is KILLER on the real version. This is a travesty to cut this song down! They cut out a verse too. Also, check out their sing Skateaway. Always been one of my faves.
I really never listened to the lyrics because the guitar was so mesmerizing. The final solo is amazing! This version didnât have it.
I'm glad you played the original version of Sultan's of Swing as this is the best version they had done..
DS - very smooth yet very tight also. Great sound.!
I know you wonât do another reaction of this song but the live Alchemy version is 10 times as good as this.with a wild drummer who we couldnât hear in this version and has a longer and better guitar solo at the end. Listen to it on your own time if you have to.. One of the best live recordings Iâve heard.
Yes they would be blown away!
It's also missing a verse, in addition to the rest of the end solo
i love to listen to this when im driving my semi down I80 through wyoming. its a must
Wild West End live is amazing.
Alright, so you're just gonna have to react to this again with the full song. Everyone is right. Missing that last solo is sacrilege.
Great song, but the live version from ALCHEMY LIVE blows it away.
The drums just take over this song. That dude is fire.
Yes! I understand why many people focus on the guitar, but the drumming on this is incredible.
You have to see the concert called Alchemy live , Dire Straits doing a fantastic concert
Wrong version to react to, you missed out on the highly popular guitar solo. (live Alchemy version)
Brad would have loved it!
Whoever cut Markâs guitar solo belongs in prison or a psych ward
Knopfler is from Newcastle, England. Somewhere around the CZcams interwebs there is a great interview/talk between Knopfler and Brian Johnson of AC/DC talking about growing up in Newcastle. Another Dire Straits gem that I've always loved is Skateaway.
one of the best finger picking player as of yet..Mark is def chill..born in Scotland raised in England
Wrong version of this song. There is so much more to this song. Need to check it out
Nooooooooooo, you missed his guitar outro. The best part of the whole composition
đ
I bet she says "this sounds like the swamp, the bayou".
The first concert I ever went to was Dire Straights I was 15 and it was something magical at the time.
I know you guys do kabllions of videos and repeating yourselves isn't really on the schedule, but I *really* hope you revisit this without the guitar solo cut out. Lex will lose it for sure, it's so good.
Lol what the whole solo is missing???
Yesssss!!! I hit Like before the video even started!! This is not only one of the GREATEST Rock and Roll songs ever, it's also one of the GREATEST GUITAR SOLOS of Any Genre!!!
Yes Brad, you get more of the story from the Lyric Video, and this one like most is based on a Real Life Experience that Mark Knopfler had... But then you miss out on his playing, and frankly he is a virtuoso!!
So glad you guys did this one!!â€đ€đ»
The LIVE in concert video is something to see. Really!
