Mark Knopfler is left handed and learned to play right handed so he didn't look different from other guitar players and he is self taught. He doesn't use a pick. He uses the tips of his fingers to pluck the strings. One of the top 10 ever. When asked how it felt to be the best guitarist ever, Prince replied, "I don't know. Go ask Mark Knopfler ".

I am 74 Mark Knopfler is 75 this year. I’ve seen them twice back in the day. Try “Telegraph Road” from Alchemy Live. “Tunnel of Love” and “Romeo & Juliette”.
That is a joyous reaction to an incredible performance. The guitar work obviously is amazing, but the drum work is phenomenal!

Mark Knopfler, the one in red, was 33 years old in this video and is 74 years old now... and he's still working! He doesn't go out on tour anymore, but he still plays and sings, writes music, and makes records. His latest album came out in April 2024. His voice is even deeper now, and he says he has more time to write now that he doesn't have to do it in a hotel room while he travels.
He also owns a commercial recording studio in London, where he lives. And he recently did a short TV show, only 6 episodes, where he and another "elder" rock star went around interviewing other musicians. So far it's only been shown in Britain, but I hope they export it so those of us in other countries can see it.
