    Thanks for the video.
    After about 3 years (after the pool guy initially set it up with it running during the day), I decided to change the time to run at night (which I prefer). But I always was scared of it and thought I'd mess it up. After this video, it helped me step through the schedule he had set up. He set it up with just two settings.
    Speed 1 starting at 9 am and ending at 5 pm (1400 rpm)
    Speed 2 starting at 10 am and ending at 3 pm (2400 rpm)
    So I got the 8 hours of pump time for the size of my pool, and right during Speed 1, Speed 2 kicks in and runs at a higher rpm to move the SharkVac around the pool to give it a good cleaning. At 3 pm it falls back down to 1400 rpm for the remaining two hours. I just changed the start and end times for the two speeds and I was in business with my night time schedule.

    I love that pump. Everybody needs to know that its a variable speed pump for a reason. You program the pump at a schedule of two speeds at least. One speed at high RPM'S which will depend on the size of tour pool and rather you have in floor cleaning heads or an automatic vacuum. The next speed will be a low RPM'S to finish filtering the water. The pool water should be turned over 1 and 1/2 times at least to get the best cleaning and depends on if its more economical to run it at night or day.

    You can run the pump nonstop but you would have to turn off the schedules then what ever speed you set would stay on indefinitely. Probably the best bet is to increase the speed and add more time to the schedule.

    I just had the latest Pentair 3hp pump model 11056 professionally installed. I verified the settings with Pentair tech support. I did the math and do not really see the electric savings. The pump runs for 8 hours at 1300 rpm using 146 Watt/hours total 1168 watt/hours, next it runs for 2 hours at 2750 rpm 1265 Watt/hours total 2530 watt/hours, The pump needs to run for 1 minute at 3450 rpm 38 Watt/hours to get the Kreepy Krawley (Pentair pool sweep) to start. Total for the day 3736 Watt/hours.
    My old Hayward 3hp SUPER 11 pump was running 3450 rpm for 2 hours a day at 8.3 amps on 230V total 3818 watt/hours per day. Power savings of only 82 watt/hours per day with the new Pentair pump. I know for sure that I will not see any savings on my electric bill with all the other power I use.
    ALSO: for a brand new model pump it's programed with a obsolete daylight savings time. Daylight saving time before 2007.

    • @JohnThePoolExpertGuy
      @JohnThePoolExpertGuy  Před 5 lety

      I can't imagine why you would need to run your pump over 2800 rpm. And unless you're pool is super huge you shouldn't need to run your pump more than 6 hours. If you want to save money, run it 3 hrs on 1800 and 3 hrs on 2800. Obviously that won't work for every pool but it's a good place to start.

    • @funlovingJohn
      @funlovingJohn Před 5 lety

      My new Pentair pool sweep Kreepy Krauly will not start unless the pump is up to full speed for a minute before the 2 hour run at 2750 rpm. The run cycle was okayed by Pentair tech support and that's the norm accordingly to the company that just installed the pump for a 27,000 gallon pool and spa here in Los Angeles.

    Thanks for the video - this helped me set my schedule. However, I'm having issues with the SolarTouch connected to the Intelliflo. When the solar kicks on, the pump ramps up like it is supposed to. However, when the solar is off and water is not being pumped to the roof, the pump is still running at the higher RPMs. I thought it was supposed to default back to my schedule. I checked the schedule and speed settings, which look fine. Any idea what might be wrong? I've spent hours researching and can't figure it out.

    Can you select days of the week. I try to run my pump when it's cool out to keep the pump from getting hot and to keep from circulating hot water during the summer months.

    • @JohnThePoolExpertGuy
      @JohnThePoolExpertGuy  Před 10 lety

      The pump itself isn't capable of being scheduled by the day of the week. Its probably best to run it daily anyway. The coolest part of the day is right before the sun comes up and even though it can be cheaper to run your equipment at night I don't think it's the best thing for keeping your pool clean. Simply because the things that like to grow in water making yiu pool nasty tend to grow during the warmest time of the day and when the water is stagnant. Therefore running the pump even on a very low speed during the day can be extremely beneficial. This pump is very efficient there isn't a need to sacrifice the cleanliness of your pool. Run your pump longer and at lower speed and don't be afraid to run it during the day.

I have a kreepy krauly pool cleaner made also by Pentair and it takes full 3450RPM to for the Pentair pool cleaner to work properly. When I called Pentair they told me that they recommend 3450RPM for their Pentair Kreepy Krauly to work as it should. I also notice that the Pentair at 3450RPM is a little noisier then my old 3HP pump, also my old pump primed a lot easier after cleaning the filter.

    Love everything about the pump except 2 things :
    Firstly it is designed by brain-damaged engineers who comes up with the operational interface. It is clumsy, awkward, illogical, and does not make any sense. Pentair ought to fire whoever designed the interface.
    Secondary, the internal battery cannot be replaced. Once it is depleted, perhaps after 2 years, the clock settings will be lost whenever there is power interruption because the memory is lost without the battery.

    • @henryt9254
      @henryt9254 Před 2 lety

      The most important thing is the battery and yet they designed it that you cannot replace it once it is depleted and you lost the time whenever there is a power outage. The second most important thing is to change the schedule between summer and winter and yet the interface is so lame because it is designed by brain-damage engineers.

      If it is set on a schedule it should work, don't forget that the start stop button has to be on so the light is on and at the bottom of the display it should say running schedule even when the pump is off. Beyond that its possible the drive is bad if that's the case I would get ahold of pentair ASAP it might still be covered.

    • @henryt9254
      @henryt9254 Před 2 lety

      Probably you had a power outage and the internal battery can't keep your time because it is depleted. The internal battery cannot be replaced. No way around it but to reset the time and it will start/stop at your scheduled time. Lame design if you ask me because your schedule setting is retained in memory and yet the time is not when the battery is depleted.

    What a terrible set up this process is. I cannot fault your attempt to help the poor folks who were sucked into buying this system, but even with your comments, I am left with somewhere between fifty and two thousand questions. Like where do I go to get rid of those preset run schedules? I set my pump for three run periods which I had intended to be my only run time. Now, as if by God or some other unseen critter, the damn thing comes on when it wants to at times I did not select. I cannot even discover what or who's schedule the pump is responding to. For such an excellent pump, the controller is beyond stupid and in this day, it should be programable from my smart phone and the program should readout on my screen in totality to that I do not have to guess what other themes are hidden therein. I know this is not exactly a question, but if you can lend any help, I will appreciate it. And to Pentair, "Go suck an egg" (the most family friendly thing I will allow myself to say here)!

      David Burns comment hit the nail on the head for likely thousands of us, if not EVERY owner of this incredibly difficult machine to run. When I first put it in, I used Pentair customer service, practically worthless.
      My thought has always been why not make the Interface as simple as the alarm clock beside your bed???
      Asking too much obviously, they want this nightmare machine to be able to perform 100 or 200 or more different things. All I want is for it to turn on and off at a certain times, run at a certain speed. The thing is an absolute nightmare when it comes to priming, even when the pool is properly full. Just look at the number of pages in the Owners Manual, Ridiculous!
      My machine is forever giving out a OVERCHARGE Alarm, but nothing on how to rectify that complaint.
