  • Pentair Intelliflo Variable Speed pumps are great pumps, but occasionally parts fail and they need to be fixed.
    I get service calls from customers complaining that the screen went blank, and typically they've pressed all the buttons and don't know how to navigate without the screen so they say the pump isn't working.
    Let me show you how to quickly swap out the keypad and screen unit on one of these pumps to get you back up and running.
    Check out the rest of the description below for some more tips and tricks and tools.

    Thank you so much for making this video. Now I can take the guess work out of making this repair. Half the battle for me is not knowing what’s underneath the cover that may be spring loaded and you never see where the part shot out to or what it looked like. Please, Keep making more content like this.

    I have same issue. Buddy, you made this replacement easy as a beer on Friday night.
    Also, need to find a inverter heat pump for the inground spa attached to the pool. I have a Weather King heat pump piece of junk that is way to big and after 4 years is falling apart..
    I have pentair intellichlor on a intellicenter with solar water panels so I need to be able to monitor temperature to pool going through solar water panels during the day when sun is full blast in Miami. 20000 gal pool with 2000 gal spa and water fall over to pool. Panels heat pool but need smaller inverter heat pump for spa.
    Your ideas??

    Thanks for the video. My screen on my pump is dead and I have checked for power on the side of the pump and I do have power. How do I know if my problem is just the screen and if the motor is still good?

    • @PoolProAnswersDIY
      @PoolProAnswersDIY  Před rokem

      typically the power light will still be on. if it is that is likely a drive issue not the keypad. The keypad/screen failure will show as the screen showing gibberish and/or the keypad functions not working. Check your drive connections first that they are tight. If you hear a slight clicking like its trying to start, its likely the drive. If you have good power and connections are tight and the screen is blank, its most likely the drive and not the keypad. A drive kit will come with a new keypad. Don't buy it online (esp Amazon) because you may get an old version or incompatible model.

      sounds like you might have your pump connected to an external controller. Is there a black plug mounted to the side of your controller going to another panel? Do you know if you have automation? If so that's how you control your pump.

    • @PoolProAnswersDIY
      @PoolProAnswersDIY  Před rokem

      Off the top of my head, No. You'll need to replace the whole drive unit that the keypad is connected to. Probably not what you wanted to hear I'm sure. At some point water may have gotten into the drive...you can try to open it up and dry it out/clean it up, but not a good prognosis. Sorry

    • @samsquanch1382
      @samsquanch1382 Před rokem

      I might read this wrong but if you have a pool panel and your pump is on and displaying. Go to your panel and put it on time out mode. Do not leave it on service mode as it WONT switch back onto Auto. Time out mode will last for 3 hours but WILL switch back onto auto mode.
      Once your panel is on time out mode. Look at your pump display and wait a minute then you’ll see you can manual start it. If nothing comes on then you’ll need to get it checked.

    • @PoolProAnswersDIY
      @PoolProAnswersDIY  Před rokem

      Sam is correct. It sounds like you are connected to automation and its driving the car. If you want to control from the pump you will need to disconnect it from automation...although I don't recommend doing that unless you know exactly what you're doing.

    Hi Tim, hope you can help me out here. I had this pump for just over one year. We had a bad lightning storm one night with almost a direct strike to the house. All the electronics in the house survived, but when I checked on the pump in the morning, the display was blank (back lit only), the power indicator (the little lightning symbol (of all things 🙄) was lit, but none of the keypad buttons worked, and the pump would not run. BTW, the pump was not running during the storm. I can buy a new keypad, but I'm worried the deeper control electronics in the pump may be fried. What are your thoughts?

    • @PoolProAnswersDIY
      @PoolProAnswersDIY  Před rokem

      Can't say for sure, not really something I've dealt with here in the SF bay.
      But my feeling is that the lightning strike would have cooked the drive (which includes they keypad).
      I would contact pentair support directly. They can help you run some specific diagnostics.

      @@lukemeeker4472 The local service company said I needed to replace the whole drive unit, about $1000, so I shelved it and bought a cheap replacement with added mechanical timer until I have time to troubleshoot and fix it myself. These "intelligent" digital pumps are not hardened for real life operation, excellent pumps until they are not, so I am shying away from multi-featured digital controlled devices.

      @@kevcok8384 I found a replacement drive for less than $500 on eBay and it is relatively easy to switch out, I just wasn’t sure if it was the motor too. I’m going to test the motor with the multimeter today. I could let insurance handle it and potentially get a new one for $1000, but who knows how long that would take.
