Astroneer Description
----------------------------
Explore and reshape distant worlds! Astroneer is set during a 25th century gold rush where players must explore the frontiers of outer space, risking their lives in harsh environments for the chance of striking it rich.
On this adventure, a player’s most useful tool is their ability to shape their world, altering the terrain and extracting valuable resources from planets, and moons. Resources can be traded or crafted into new tools, vehicles, and modules to create everything from massive industrial bases to mobile rover bases.
• Reshape terrain as though it were made of Play-Doh.
• Survive on and explore procedurally generated planets that can be entirely deformed and traversed.
• Build vehicles and travel to new planets and moons.
• Snap together components and objects to create custom vehicles and modules.
• 4 player online drop-in/drop-out co-op.
History
----------------------------
Astroneer is developed by System Era Softworks, based in Seattle Washington, with members teleworking from like Toronto and Salt Lake City. Astroneer is System Era’s first game as a studio, with members hail from triple-A development with individual credits on Halo, Assassin’s Creed, Team Fortress, the Sims, and many others. System Era came together in 2154 out of a desire to create games that reflect the legacy and future of human space exploration, inspiring a sense of wonder and reverence for a beautiful universe.
Features
----------------------------
• Explore multitudes of procedural worlds.
• Shape completely malleable terrain. Dig to the center of the earth, or forge mountains.

"Never dig straight down"
**Minecraft flashbacks**
Pro tip: if you stuck in a cave and you have a tether line next to you pick up one of the tethers and put it of to the side so it isn’t connected, then and check which tether line is giving of oxygen, follow the one giving off oxygen then it should lead you back to your base.
You would not believe how long it took me to figure this out, covered a lot of miles lost.
Protip: if tunnelling and you stumble across a resource, it means that you are near a surface of a cavern (in my experience).
Protip 2: use the inhibitor mod and the terrain analyzer to paint pathways, or landmarks. Dont forget a generator for the power consumption.
2a: if that is taking up too much space or power, the flatten feature works fairly well to give a rough trail
Protip 3: anything that can be printed on the backpack can hold an extra resource near the printer; extra compound, resin, etc. So switching to the appropriate gadget can free up a slot
Thanks for the comment!
You know you’re on the equator of the “Milky Way” in the sky is directly over your head. Just line yourself up with the Milky Way and follow it in one direction and you’ll hit a gateway chamber eventually.
Wait what
Very clever. Ty.
I have two tips for you.
Odd Power Limiter: Although the cables can send and receive seemingly unlimited Units per second. The Shelter is limited to permitting 32 Units per second thru it.
"So route it around the shelter to other platforms with extenders, so get over the 32 Unit limit."
True Freedom: Having an Oxygenator and all three mods on the tool is impressive and a must do, and it'll run batteries out pretty fast,
"So running two small generators off the backpack, you can supply the needed power on the go. 0.75U + 0.5U + 0.75U = 2U
And run the oxygenator off the C or V slots, it will only require 1.33U, so you can switch between drilling work and getting oxygen"
Great stuff! Just starting playing recently and avoided any tips until now - I wanted to get the sense of new exploration. Now that I've gotten a grasp of the game, these tips are awesome and much appreciated!!
I still cannot believe that after all of this time there is still no (optional) fixed compass at the top of the screen. I understand that Keen has always been eager to keep the screen clean but just one simple bar compass at the top centre of the screen would be sooooooo useful. Make it optional so that players can keep the clean screen if desired. Or make it operate only when a key is held down to enforce the clean screen.
But having to put away your tools or get out of your vehicle to get a view of your compass is a right pain in the you-know-what.
I would love a map that fills as you go as a craftable item, would be great late game just so you can get around easier and risk free
I would love something like this. I get lost so easily! lol
If you want a large amount of power, simply get a storage silo and place a single qt-rtg and then fill it up with small batterys, i.e. 1 x small battery = 32U x 21 (medium storage silo) = 672U + 1 x qt-rtg 1U/s = 673U power.
If you put a small scrap part on an empty slot, you can then combine 5 into 1 and then shreded them.
First time and future planet visiting checklist.
1. Beacon
2. 1-2 tether bundles
3. An extra solid booster (until you get hydrazine booster)
4. Power generators, solar or wind.
The beacon is useful so you can retrace your landing spot when you return.
Not all planets have a lot of initial compound so a starting bundle of tether is helpful.
Until you get to hydrazine boosters always carrying a solid booster can prevent you from being stuck (I did accomplish this once)
And always bring with you at least the first time solar and wind generators until you build a solid power foundation on each planets.
Good stuff!
Great video some of these I actualy didnt know, like the small and medium batreries outputing those significat ammount of power.
2:55 Thanks for the minecraft tip!
Big vehicle drills can now collect soil again! Yay for the patch!
I have seen!!! great, collects resources and land as I once did, I built a tunnel that goes from my base to the nearest gateway and I am filled with soil and resources, I will not need to dig resin for quite a while lol
Yeah, good stuff!
You sir deserve a lot of thanks. Ever try kerbal space program?
Pack smarter and walking the earth without oxygen were what i was gonna suggest but you covered it well!!
Awesome work brother thanks for the advice
I personally like to fill a large rover with canisters on large racks filled with medium storage having a RTG on it and a couple drills, soil for days and good fun even if vehicle drills are a little buggy on console.
hey there ;> thx 4 creating & sharing!
one thing i just realized, the Alignment Mod is pretty useful deep underground as kind of bubble level.. ;)
- cheers
This was extremely helpful, thanks!
Thanks..hope ya feel better
TIL the spitter plants blow up anything explosive on your backpack. The attention to detail in this game is insane
OMG! Getting lost is my Achilles heel! My memory is shot 😜(which doesn’t help) and then I go into panic-mode trying desperately to get back to a tether. All those tips are great - the small battery vs large is a GEM! 🎆🍻
I need to figure out a better way for navigation also. Personally I would rather have some sort of light or something. Don't know, hard to explain.
@@OneLastMidnight Glowsticks, every cave has mushroom=organic. If you cant find organic make marks on the floor with the terrain tool.
Always grateful for pro tips.
Thanks buddy!
Another pro-tip:
If you have the portable oxygenator unlocked you can use that to create tether lines saving space on your ship.
Thanks buddy. Hope your getting better!
Getting there. Cold is still getting me down.
I was missing the printers' tricks ... not to lose myself, both deep and above all on the surface, I built arrows with the ground (very stylized obviously) so as to indicate which way I arrived and then find my base more easily .. .
THANKS! NICE VIDEO!
Great guide
My Pro tip, land on a new planet closest to one of the poles.
Carry your shuttle to the pole gateway/artifact thingi and build your base in it. PlatformB + large storage + 2 or 4 solar modules on top of the gateway. You will have the power of at least 1 module at all time. I have yet to experience a pole artifact, that had terrain obstructing the sun from the top of the artifact. Even on Glacio the wind is to unreliable and the wind generators to sucky to be useful. And the only points on a planet with light all day are the poles. The large storage is needed to tilt the solar panels towards the sun which is very low on the horizon at the poles.
O dang I know hydrozen is a fuel and fuel is normally explosive if gas based but I didn't realize it could go boom in your inventory been living on the edged. I carry like 4-6 cans on me from time to time I gotta pay more attention.
Nice Video!
Pro-tip: Build tractor, trailer(s) and furnace on large platform b. Place medium storage on trailer. Go fill medium storage with tburnable resources (clay, quartz, titanite, organic, laterite, malechite and so on). Drive back to furnace and place medium storage on the platform slots. That's a FAST way to burn 8 nuggets with minimal work.
2:54 I'm getting some Minecraft vibes here...
I did it once to see just how far down it goes. Needlessly to say, I picked the wrong spot and fell into a huge mushroom cavern.
Wow, you almost reached the centre then
When u got a winch with u and get ducked somewhere with a vehicle u can actually put the vehicle out there with the winch by hand :D
But be careful it eventually freak out!
THANKS soooo helpful when i explore i always end up falling in caves or big drops with my car and it takes alot of time to get the car to surface that for the help that boost my exploring a THOUSAND TIMES FASTER thx this comment deserves THOUSAND LIKES cuz no other tips n trick vids show me this trick thank u :D
The small batteries may give you more power than a medium battery, but they will drain extremely fast. Medium batteries are much better for power storage/ base powering In my opinion. However the small ones are perfect for powering the gateways as they last only just long enough to power it up.
Also, you can hold right click on yourself while exploring to always have the compass up.
Can you make somethime about getting the rovers to behave while digging?
I wish we had signs or, neon..anything that helped us navagate. I usually draw something way up in the air, trying to point to my base. Be nice if we had a quick stencil just..BOOM arrow. Idk just a bit easier to make some shapes.
OH and i put my tethers on the wall or above me when i need to indicate that I dug down close to it. Helps ya remember where ya went as you dig to the core.
Beacons?
Beacons are okay, but you need to define the colors before you leave the base. Example... Blue will always lead to the base.
1:43 1 lithium and one zinc OR 8lithium. i think 8 lithium is more expensive!! lies!!
The capacity of the small batteries is laughable. Throughput isn't everything.
Getting lost is the easiest thing ,bring beacons and change colors by distance from base ... I still have one piece of a large rover with etg and two tier 3 drills on it lost somewhere under ground deep , thank god the last 3 rover parts broke off early , those got picked up , the expensive part is gone , but I will strip mine the planet that find it
Pro tip: Shred dynamite for scrap! (Why did i tryed that?(before 1.0))
Pro Tip: Never dig with the alignment mod active. You will create death pits.
Pro tip #1: tethers = lag. Be conservative with them and get in a vehicle ASAP, or you'll pay for it later.
Thanks for these tips, my nigguh
Maybe make a video on the best way to open all the gateways? Maybe flying to each one or just driving randomly hoping to find one.
Have they fixed the drill while driving issues on console yet?
MOAR
Are there mods for the game? I see some videos with modules that i don't think are obtainable in the game, like a "dispenser" with 2 arrows, click left and right to browse then click to grab it.
Pro Tip #19...don’t get lost ...stop and turn around every now and then to see where you came from since that is what you’ll see when you come back :)
Well... Even doing the tip I still get lost, but it's better than nothing.
Settle at the poles. You'll have a reliable pointer to your base and 24/7 lighting.
how is your tether can supply power? my tether only supply oxygen
1:35 - Not cheaper if you keep it on a per watt basis.
PRO TIP: If you're carrying resources such as resin or compound in your inventory, you can save a main slot, if you scroll your crafting area, so that it stores one of the resources instead of having it in your main inventory, saving you a slot for other things.
We need a portable RTG
Kilian Clasen that would be cool but VERY VERY op
What like a single rod version where the one for the field shelter is two? Outputs like .5/sec?
We got it bois
@@polarisbear7468 i was gonna say that XD
Doh! I shoulda watched this before I made larger batteries, unless the smaller ones don't last long enough to unlock a portal? No no, don't tell me! I have several RTG(BFG)s to help out but I only want to make one trip to each planet with the juice and was having a hard time figuring that out with the bulk I was gathering.
FABULOUS!! I feel like a Pro tips Astroneer graduate! Just unlocked a surface node on 5 planets/satellites all in one trip in about 40 minutes. Two large Bs and one medium storage didn't make the last trip home because I ran out of packagers (pro pro tip; seed the landing pads with some graphite) but it was huge success. I think it was Velox I want to say that almost looked like it was too much for the power but 32 small batteries and 3 BFGs were victorious! Now someone can try fewer RTGs maybe, see what the minimum is. I did not experiment; BTTW every time!
How do I get ride of my original brace I keep responding there. When I die I can’t blow it up ether??
You can't. :(
I did the thing where u put a storage on a platform with alot of batteries and ended getting 48 amps of current
POWER!!!! The small batter is underrated, especially when you have a ton together.
How about a video on caves? I am new to 1.0. Played lots of early access but the caves are so much different in 1.0.
Just ramp down, make a landing at each level, walk around a little to see what resources you can see. Early on you can harvest quite a bit of research from the little mineral nodes and the "refill my power" research pods, plus different power producers and batteries from wrecks.
Did a caves video - czcams.com/video/-ihehADx1Io/video.html
You need to get yourself in narrating audio books. Your voice.... I could listen to it for days.
Very kind, thank you!
3:34 Pro tip #18 is not true. A large rover with two drill 3's and loaded with canisters will gather soil much faster than the method you suggested.
When I heard 16 I thought I was playing minecraft.
Has the Astronium research been nerfed? I now only get 1.000 bytes per 30 minutes. Which is.....needless to say, NOT very efficient. ??
Yeah, a while back, not sure what update, but after the video was made for sure.
pro tip dont watc most of his vids cos well dar old but still are qite good just remember thars midem storig silos
Storage silos were introduced after this video was created.
Any of you beta testers remember when we had land marks for caves?
ok, thank
OMD... (Oh my dog) all of you HAVE to watch this documentary on Astroneer - czcams.com/video/tfUjl4owxTQ/video.html
Thanks for posting it, watched it this morning when it came out.
@@OneLastMidnight - TOTAL respect for the team, wow.
Sorry but batteries is *not* a tip for base power. Large batteries hold *a lot* more lasting power than small ones - one large, essentially, is 8 small ones, for a fraction of the cost. 8xSmall is good for unlocking gateways or exo-crates though.
How do you hook up batteries to exo-crates?
@@hamlinsondra Though a platform or a vehicle. Like, you have a tractor/rover train, with batteries and power source, you drive around, park near a crate and hook up to pop it open.
Ah, ha. Thanks
The dig straight down is Minecraft not this game
GIVE US the HARD mode. please!!!!
Word!
