When the hover board and VTOL were first added I jumped into creative mode just to check them out. Tried the hover board and thought to myself "Huh. Neat"
But just recently I started actually playing again and unlocked it in survival and oh my _gosh_ it is pretty much essential for everything I don't know how I ever lived without it.
True, when we started a new game in the members' server, everything looked so slow until we unlocked it

2 full hydrogen and nitrogen canisters 2 graphite to titanium and 2 tungsten 2 silicone 2 tungsten-carbon and 4 exo chips for a vtol
The VTOL compared to the hoverboard is much more powerful, it can function as a sort of helicopter
But the hoverboard is just FAR more versatile, it is OP when paired with a QT-RTG
Yeah, they have given us two new great vehicles
I also wanted to say, even though it takes up so much backpack space. I almost never go anywhere without a, portable oxgynator, hoverboard, and two QT-RTGS. PS: my spelling and punctuation sucks.
I felt the same until I fell off a mesa on calidor and kept dying of lack of oxygen. I had unlocked the portable oxygenator at this point, was really far from my base looking for wolframite and there wasn't any compound within oxygen distance. Thank god for hydrazine thrusters.

Love that Hoverboard as I have used it more then the VTOL. Also had terrible luck with the VTOL. I took it to another planet and landed to pick up a starship horn...but did not notice the 2 Volatile Cataplants next to it that blew up my vehicle as I got out LOL!

@@sulfurpigeon41 that's true, it's quite expensive 😅 ... The only tip I can give you is to write down the resources that you are going to need and bring them all together once you have all of them. At least you are going to save some trips back and forth

I personally prefer the hover board with a hydrazine fuel jump jet.
The way this works is if you are on flat train use the hover board and when there is a bad surface use the jump jet.
The reason it could be better is the less use of hydrazine then the VTOL but it only has 8 small slots and 1 medium slot.(the medium slot is your hand which you can go the same speed.)
But in reality it is less convenient on some planets so I prefer VTOL
One of the things I love BEST about Astroneer is how cute and adorable the little astronauts are. The way they walk, bobbing their heads back and forth, everything. They really made them so cute it's almost toxic. Thanks for this video BTW, its easier to do these things when you know what to bring. Also, do you know what were suppose to do when we FIND the satellites on the planets? Like on Sylva, there is the Kepler Space Telescope, but you can't do anything with it? Can you?
Hi, thanks for your comment. You can use a Probe Scanner to activate a probe on each planet and moon. Once you have found it, place the probe on the satellite and look at what happens
@@KuyaGameAstroneer When I did that like with the Kepler, nothing happened? What was it suppose to do? I checked out another video and I was suppose to see an astronaut image, but nothing happens. I might have a bug or something.

@@vegassims7 You only get the astronaut image for the 7th probe scanned. Have a camera ready. The others open up new palettes.

How to get exo chip:
1.attach winch to VTOL
2.attach silo to VTOL
3.attach large silo to winch
4.fill medium silo with packagers

They are both good, but I use the hover board because it is more portable to different planets.
Buggy is terrible BTW.
The hoverboard in creative is glitchy, you can literally start flying with it lol
Lol it happens to me a lot, I think it's because if you doble press jump, you will start flying mode
You can keep it on of the two slots on the top of your backpack. Those two slots can be activated by C and V keys. Once you go into flight mode you can turn it off by pressing C or V respectively of which side of the backpack the hoverboard is on. And voila!

When you find the vehicle recorder of Desolo, look for the MAT on Desolo. When you find the vehicle recorder on Versania, look for the MAT on Versania

When I do the hoverboard missions, the one where you first find the MAT, the lightbulb icon just doesn't show on the compass, or from orbital view, (The VTOL worked perfectly fine).
Hmmm that's weird... Are you sure that you have completed all the needed missions?
Yes I have, I completed the one where you first blow up the EXO Cache, it even let me activate the mission too.
@@mrsex4408 that's weird, the hoverboard mission should be unlocked after you end the mission that requires you to print a small shuttle, oxygenator and thruster. (One of the old mission, not the ones with the gear ⚙️ icon). If it's a bug it will hopefully be address by the upcoming hotfix. You may contact SystemEra assistance on their Discord channel as well.
The other option is to go around Desolo and see if you can locate the MAT on your own, it shouldn't be too hard (if it did spawn)
I located the MAT on desolo by accident but the compass icon doesn’t appear for it or the data recorder. I was able to go to vesania and got that one. Which worked fine.
It seems like this is a common problem... I guess it's a bug... Thanks for letting me know and I'm glad you could work it out anyway

honestly the Vtol fkn sucks its fuel consumption vs both jump jets is abysma!!
The Hover Board on the other hand is amazing!
IF the Vtol had better fuel economy or even didn't use any fuel at all and was 2-4 times faster where it could actually win a race vs the Hydrazine Jets! Than and Only than would actually be worth it

You may need to complete some other missions first. Try to check the missions log

You can start by going to some open cave system, but you will eventually have to dig your way to the core with a terrain tool and a drill mod, or a rover with a drill head
i glitched it and put a exo chip in before the now it’s not working
Un oh ... I recommend that you reboot your console.
Did the exo chip get stuck?
If so, I heard that you could go to the opposite side of the planet and come back, in this way the chunk will be reloaded and it should work again
Just a quick tip. When or if you get it working make sure to NOT put in any of your tungsten carbide before you receive your bytes for your other missions you did. Because the mat will take them, but it won't count toward your mission. Therefore you may have to go back to a different planet and make more unless you have a base on versania.
The hoverboard is useful for mid-game fast travel but can only fly when paired with jetpacks.
In my opinion VTOL is more useful because it can fly fast and high with an efficient fuel usage and can hold more storage from silos than the hoverboard and backpack. ✈

I would recommend activating the core of vesania before attempting to get the VTOL because if you activate it you can teleport to vesania from the unidentified satellite instantaneously
