Plot twist, The Truck driver was an older Shaggy with a productive job🤷
Who seems to be driving Optimus Prime
And they say you can't win the internet.
@@BrotherMag nah, man dude is a still hittin dat dank.
Her mom, the ultimate Karen, lol
But wait, oh lather, he's productive you know.. ..naturally, the Time Machine- band has no audience, produces no videos, an has no sales- or fans.
Or do they? Maybe that truck is full of guitars an suchlike.
😜😸😆😎👺😝😝😻😻🎂👻⛵️⛵️⛵️
My name is Lia Nelson and I am the brightest woman alive. When I was a child my mother made me the impossible. To the outside world, I'm a superhero, I use my powers fight crime and find a perfect dress. I am the flash.
_"Glow, Lia, glow"_
I'd watch that.
Funny but you should have added the word like every other word. Like my mother like made me like the impossible.
I read that in Sasha's 'Lia Voice'
If the CW does a crossover, that's exactly what I'd want the opener to be.
I dig this concept. A revamp would be interesting with today’s Social Media presence.
I love that the main antagonist is Wile E Coyote Dad.
With perhaps a bigger emphasis on morals because constantly being the center of attention since she was pretty much a baby and how Hollywood destroys people till they start talking crazy is not good for anyone's mental health and leaves people quite disconnected, delusional, and self absorbed, and that combined with a light being in the form of a teenage girl is a recipe for disaster. Father wants to kill her, mother wants to use her. Lovely.
To quote The Boondocks
"What kind of deranged Wile E Coyote shit is that?"
He's just one Muttley shy of being Dick Dastardly
Legally blond, the superhero edition
Love it, honestly.
i realyl want that omg
Oh god yes please.
"If it’s good enough for a Looney Tune, it’s good enough for Agent Kelly." LOL
Yeah. Agent Kelly had some Wile E. Coyote similarities going on there.
They definitely nailed the “Superhero Clueless” vibe they wanted
And she's officially a part of the Flash family. On the newest flash comic she appeared when they recruited flashes from all eras and times.
Honestly the artist is so right about things being “dark”” and “edgy” even today... nothing wrong with that flavor of media of course but it is overabundant seemingly all the time. Usually a peppy 60s stereotypical teen girl trope would bother me but I’m digging this. I needed this silly positivity, so God bless for bringing this to my attention.
Nightwing and Agent Kelly are clearly sponsored by the Acme Corporation.
Ale_Fiend
HMAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
It occurs to me that Lia's Mom is Chris Jenner crossed with Captain America.
I mean I was visually seeing an obvious spoof of Reed & Sue Storm on DC, they love trying to parody Fantastic 4 I've noticed.
I could see this in a CW TV HONESTLY!! She could talk to the viewer like a 4th wall break, and could easily be a possible mid season replacement
Her dress at the premier kind of reminds me of Dazzler’s costume.
She's basically got the same powers as the Monica Rambeau version of Captain Marvel. Also, she kind of reminds me of Jem and the Holograms, for some reason.
Wtf all of you ignoring that she exactly looks like Starfire even the non superhero look with normal clothes 😏. and that whole nightwing reference
I really loved Lia's Flash, her stories would make for a cute animated comedy. I'd love to see more Tangent acknowledgment. 😄
Lia Nelson could work as a character, she should have an original name. She has a unique personality for a hero. Every mention of Black Lightning I’m looking for Jefferson.
If they're Nightwing, what do we know about the state of their bottoms?
Only the finest
“Pacing is important”
Someone tell that to dc editorial
some one tell that to oda who's writing one piece he seams to have forgotten it in last 5 years of his manga
@@imperlast2 I think I heard that series is finally ending though, so I guess he finally ran out of stories.
@@ShadowWingTronix in 5 years it's ending, I love it and all I even got a tattoo of the straw hats flag but damn he's relay been drawing it out for a while like mega arcs but in one series it's been going for over 20 now
Tell that to Marvel too!! They both need to understand pacing! XD
@@imperlast2 Finally someone who sees why I'm not appealed by One Piece!
that is a lot to cram into a first issue but I like it, she's like a combination of Cher (of Clueless) and Starlight (more the Amazon Prime version and less the comic) and for the 90s I almost feel like that must've been a breath of fresh air for anyone that was getting sick and tired of edgy stories
IIRC the first issue of all the Tangent comics were at least double length, maybe more. It was one of the things they didn't do with the sequel comics, so they fell flat IMHO.
I honestly felt this could have become a successful ongoing. It was, indeed, fresh take on superheroes.
@@landreaulover I agree, a lot of the titles had real promise. I guess they weren't successful enough to really capitalize on it.
The term is Momanger. Mom + Manager. - Holly Robinson-Peete.
1:27 I'd say that except for mainstream tech from companies such as WayneTech or Luthorcorp there's not a lot of affect that the super heroes/villains seem to have on the DCU. No one is teleporting to work like the JL teleports to their satellite nor are any farmers benefiting from folks like Poison Ivy or Swamp Thing. The two worlds seem pretty separate IMO.
Yeah, except when Metropolis was transformed into some kinda of super city, everyone in the DC Universe lives pretty normal lives, except that they could be killed at any moment by psychopaths, super villains, and aliens.
Orwell, we can't all have pedal power- so once the fuels are gone, they're gone, baby. 👻👻👻
OMG! The voice that you did for her had me DEAD. I'm rolling on the floor then back on my bed.
Right? Her Batman one and this one is something special.
@@jasontoddsthighholsters4168 this one gave me both emotional extremes at the same time. Extreme Hatred but also Extreme Love. I HATE THAT I LOVE IT SO MUCH.
Like 0h my God, that was a cool review. ☺️
@@teedup8995 lol. I see like you have master the wayyyyy of like true enlightenment or something.
"Main at the time"
Oh, the joys of constant reboots, rebirths and the like😭😭🤣
What the heck?! It's like Archer, Looney Toons, Mean Girls and My Hero Academia thrown into a blender! Also your Lia voice was hilarious!
Never heard of Tangent before this, but I'm definitely really interested in checking it out now. The some of the aesthetic feels more modern than when it is from too, which is interesting for what this is. I also kinda like the idea of a disaffected superhero.
kind of remind me a bit of My hero Academia where the super power being are the front and center of the world
@@Marveryn MHA is awesome!
I got a couple of the issues when they came out. The Tangent Joker was *really* interesting (a female superhero who had an anarchist/martial arts/acrobat/gadgeteer thing going.) As was the Dark Knight (a knight of the Round Table who was cursed to live forever but not able to leave his castle, his superhero persona was an animated suit of armor - essentially his only way to interact with the world.)
I thought the sequel series kind of messed a few things up, though. It wasn't as good.
Then definitely check Stan Lee's Justice League, it's even bonkers than the tangent universe.
Huh, I know A LOT about comics, but yet, never heard of her. A Flash who dresses like a Star Sapphire, with, kinda similar abilites... Who fits right in with Cher Horowitz and Elle Woods.
yeah it sucked
That's what i thought when i first saw her but Starfire 🤔 not sapphire lol they also have nightwing in this story,
Oh, well, There's a bucket of cold water. Can I sell you a can of spam? No? Didn't think so.. (slinks off growling) ..guess we'll live inna plainer flatter universe.. (Sputter sputter)
This is such an odd story. Like, if it were played straight and Flash was aware of everything in her life, it's kind of very dark and disturbing. Her own dad wants to kidnap her and her mom doesn't give a crap about her and just wants to live famous through her. If this was played straight and she realized how dark her life was, it would come off much like The Boys. So it's really odd to see such a dark plot played in such a light hearted and easy going way.
she's starlight but clueless and with a bit of flash charm.
The Tangent Universe was a breath of fresh air at the time. Like many readers, I was getting tired of the annual crossover events. They couldn't live up to their promises of changing the DCU, so I remember not stressing out at all about not picking up issues from other series that I usually didn't follow.
Tangent though was a one-shot crossover. All the characters were new (so naturally, I had to buy them all), and the editors had complete freedom to do whatever they wanted with the universe. Also, telling all the writers and artists to "do something completely different" must have been good for morale since most of the titles were excellent.
I wish they had continued the tradition of giving the DCU a month off every year. Even if Tangent hadn't continued, they could check in on the Milestone U or Earth-71, or whatever Elseworlds crossover people wanted more of. A good editorial staff could have used the break to get everyone back on schedule, try out some new talent, and even do a little planning ahead.
I read this book when it first came out and what stayed with me was that dress; the one she wore for the premiere. It was the high point of the book! I loved the Tangent universe. You didn't mention that Dan Jurgens was inspired by Julius Schwartz's Silver Age of DC; where he took the names of golden age heroes and re-imagined them. There should have been more Tangent comics.
Funny how Flash has literally no agency in her own book lol
Now you should check out the "Just Imagine" universe's Flash. Also a female superhero, this one with hummingbird dna and rainbows! And it was written by Stan Lee for DC!
So...she's Dazzler. Dazzler if she was a Disney channel actress.
That has potential. Ive always had a soft spot for Dazzler.
@@TheNickcone It does have potential, and it frightens me so much I wish I hadn't brought it up.
I can now see teen-age Alison Blaire (played by the next Miley Cyrus or Selena Gomez) in a light comedy where she tries to live a normal life with her average, middle-class family (whose living room is bigger than most people's homes) and going to an average high school in City, State, while trying to hide from her friends and the authorities that she is both an internationally-celebrated singer AND a filthy mutie. Oh the wacky hijinx!
I've loved her since she first came out. Give us more Tangent characters. Perhaps start with Green Lantern.
I was really into reading comics in the mid 90's, yet somehow I never heard about the Tangent universe at all. So that's interesting on its own. But I like the idea of using the well-known names in a different way.
Very obscure memory for me. I was in college when this came out, and recall their version of Green Lantern. I intended to buy the comic later on but never got around to it. Years later, I went hunting for it and couldn't find anyone who knew what I was talking about. I almost wondered if I just imagined it. And after all these years, here we are. Tangent comics. Thanks!
The over cheesy “doctor breaks his own plan” looney tones things was cringe but the character is pleasant to watch. I would love to see her develop into herself and away from the faults of her parents and face the reality of the world. Not to get dark but to showcase how you can still be pleasantly cheerful or campy about being so super powered in a world like that. Also... “light trash” is the best line in that entire issue! Lol
takes a drink every time I hear or read "like" in this vid.
My liver is now dead. x-x
So Legally Blonde the superhero, and that is a huge compliment.
I feel the main DCU is affected by the superheroes but only certain areas and fully. Otherwise I feel they'd be more technically advanced.
I mean its the whole old 'Why hadn't Reed Richards solved all the real world problems in Marvel?' Question. Aside from Reed being a Reed, its typically because you don't want to trivialize real world issues. When you make the story Sci Fi like this, you can reimagine how the world works.
@@AesculapiusPiranha yeah I get that and there's a similar story in Superman Peace on Earth which explains why he can't feed all the poor on Earth but I'd just expect the world to actually be caught up more with the heroes and villians
@@kingdomcomesuperman3669 What was that reason?
She's like Kim Possible if Dr. Drakken was her dad
I like the direction it took more or less. Could definitely do without the attempt at teen-speak.
I'd be cool to see a movie adaptation of this character. I could imagine them having some really cool visuals when Lia's travelling because weird stuff happens as you approach the speed of light.
Fun interpretation of the Reverse Flash too.
Your valley-girl voice is so hilarious! That theme for a superhero isn’t widely used, so they get points for doing something a little different.
Why doesn't she have a professional stylist to get her a designer gown 🤔?
Father daughter relationship reminded me of the road runner vs wylie coyote
best voice yet!
I am getting Nicki Minaj Barbie Vibes from it
Dan's idea came from the Silver Age where Golden Age names were reused. Funny thing: the idea for Tangent Flash was DC's original idea for replacing Barry Allen Post-Crisis. Finally, when I always look at Starlight from the Boys (although I know she is meant to be Supergirl), I just see this character instead somehow.
You could say the paparazzi are flashing her!Sorry for my english)
Trust me, this Flash has nothing on the one that Stan Lee created. He actually made a whole Justice League and several one shots for all the members and..... they're reaaaaaally something I'll tell you that.
Agreed Mary Maxwell Flash needs more acknowledgement in modern day media.....maybe she can appear in a future season of CWs The Flash
Yep, I mean Earth-2 is pretty much totally mapped by this point so having her wrath would be a fun concept, they could even update her gimmick and make her an influencer or a tiktoker or something like that
My supervillain origin: it was a dark day and my popcorn was over cooked
I loved both of the Tangent Comics series, it was fun and a neat little idea for an alternate history. Thanks for doing a video on this and I hope to see more about the Tangent Universe.
Your Valley girl accent sounds great. It's cool that you're covering obscure characters and universe as I never heard of the Tangent universe. I will check it out as the concept of this imprint sounds interesting. I appreciate you shining light to lesser known stories, characters and universes.
This is a great start for a series of videos. You should do videos on the other main Tangent Comics characters. Maybe you could do videos on the DC/Marvel Amalgam comics too, if you haven't already done some. I always liked different takes on well known comics characters.
Her pop's Wiley coyote! Also loving the voices.
I really like it when you do the voice edits for characters like when there were multiple Flash. It's something I've only recently noticed but I think it makes the readings a lot more enjoyable
I would say folks’ everyday lives *are* pretty unaffected by superheroics in the main DCU. We never hear about, say, advanced technology filtering down to the public-like powered exoskeletons for paraplegics based on Luthor or Steel’s power armor, or Kord Industries producing flying cars based on Blue Beetle’s Bug. Imagine Alexas based on T. O. Morrow’s research, or hospitals having Wonder Woman’s purple healing ray right next to the MRI.
The universe in most comics is strangely, anesthetized to the very heroes who inhabit it.
At most they provide marketing fodder.
In reality they should have a greater psychological impact as there are now beings that most people "can never" aspire to.
The impact on everything from depression to religion should, logically, be magnitudes greater.
This is maybe a nitpick, but if she has powers to change her clothes, why she needed to buy a dress?
Exactly. That’s what I’d do all the time if I had that power, I mean, why even bother spending money on clothes if I could superpower them into existence 😆
she's not a "designer"... thus she can't 'super' herself the perfect dress if she doesn't know what it is/should be... and if she finds it as designed by someone else, she's not a 'pirate' and couldn't in good Conscience mimic it... thus she has to shop for 'fancy' clothes while being able to create constructs of her 'everyday clothes' and super suits (no doubt based on designs by committee/ mom for maximum effect)
Somehow, the comic shows she's intelligent, she created new technologies and that panel, when she confronted black lightning, how many heroes can just go straight to their enemies in one issue and warn them. It's like she's acting, the way she speaks, the way she act, that's what her mom's wants from her. She knows her dad's intentions. Yet she never harm him. My best guess, she simply want to be loved by her parents. So she compensate that from her life as celebrity and actor.
This needs a cartoon and you need to do the voice acting. Love it.
the flash season 5 had her as noras best friend in episode godspeed where she was just a normal human and co-worker of noras who helped her with her speed.
I really do love the way you present the stories down to the voice acting and everything. Keep it up!
"The mid riff is king" - Sasha XD Gotta love Sasha's quotes!
Edit: I definitely didn't like that Flash was literal in that way and I didn't think the A in her name meant to show her abs, lol. It's definitely too much teenage dream cliche city for me.
Nearly all main comic worlds are unaffected by two things, medical and technological achievement.
One can only imagine what 2020 would be like if the worlds greatest Super Heroes banded together to help us.
And get rid of all the government.
Wich will not be a bad thing.
i just found this channel the other day...fantastic, you are doing such an amazing job, one of the best things i have ever watched as a comics fan of 40 years, great job. just wanted to say
I'm screaming! Shes amazing 😭😭😭💙💙💙 I need more
I love those little touches you put into your dramatic readings
Great Vid. And it had your BEST Voice Work so far!
I think the character would be great to shake up a heavy hitting serious team like Justice League. She has that level of power but they'd be perpetually questioning her commitment and she'd think they're too square.
This was surprisingly good! I hope you do more of these Tangent videos :)
I loved your voice acting in this video! Seriously! Phenomenal!
Never heard of her or the tangent universe but I LOVE her now. 💛
As far as the DC universe is concerned, the statement about it not being impacted by super heroes is... mostly true or mostly false depending on how you're coming at it. If you're like me and your first thought was the private sector, laws, policies, technology, etc. then I agree with the statement. The super powered community has access to teleporters while the rest of humanity is stuck wasting hours of commute time a day. However, does the super powered community have an impact anywhere else in that universe? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
I didn't know about this universe. Thank you Sasha for telling me about it. You are one of my favorite channels!
Oh, that silvery dress... 😍
Also I am SO here for bumbling Team Rocket style villains in comic books. That seems like so much fun.
ngl tho the mother's kinda fine, especially in that america dress.
Dude. This is crazy. More of this please.
I remember when Tangent came out and wishing the DCU had been replaced for a few months by a new take on superheroes. I was pretty much done with marvel and DC and hoping for something new but familiar. The ‘light’-hearted tone of the Flash was just the thing I wanted and also fit with the Barry Allen/Wally west version of the flash usually being more lighthearted as well.
Sadly Tangent, like amalgam and other alternate universes never caught on or went much beyond a one-time event
I know this is a bit old but I'd love to see more of this Flash, I feel she'd be incredibly popular with this generation of readers because even tho she might be seen as a bit grating for older readers her persona and style are one of the things that's comin around in the century turnaround. If they kept her light hearted Clueless vibe without getting rid of the fact she's actually smart and can be serious, I think she could be a great solo mini. The fun you could have with her fashion alone is enough to make me interested in what you could do with her.
She's got a personality that would make her a fan of the girls and the gays, and if they didn't mess it up by trying too hard to make that the point and focused on letting her be her character I think she could be a solid icon.
Side note but I also feel like her hero name could be a play on a Paparazzi camera Flash, and be a nod to her fame and always being in the spotlight
Oh, yes. It has always bothered me a lot that universes where superpeople for a long time would look so much like our own. The ending of Moore's Miracleman is much more like I would imagine a world with superheroes.
Can't Speak to Miracle man.. but I was watching NerdSync the other day, and a video from ~2016 popped up in which the Host was Pondering whether or not a certain Real World Politician (not using their name because I don't want to make this political) Existed within the MCU as they had been name checked in a couple of Projects... but their Position was filled by a Fictional Character in Other Projects
the comments were full of assorted mental gymnastics (and flawed understanding about certain Laws) trying to make the time line fit
- but when you think about it, between Captain America, (the remnants of the Program and his war time actions), Howard Stark, Hydra in Shield (Shield itself) Hank Pym, Capt. Marvel to say Nothing of everything depicted in the movies at that time it'd be rather amazing if ANY of the people who held that office in Reality would have done so in the MCU
Totally forgot about these characters until you brought them up. Thanks for reminding me.
This Flash doesn't seem too bad. Sometimes a different twist is a good thing. Although I would have liked to see more of Lia's mom cause...damn! Also her dad keeps getting all that technology so fast because, obviously, ACME Prime.
I loved this introduction to the Tangent Universe, thank you Sasha!
That voice you did is so hilarious!!!
I have never been so distracted watching a comics channel. Im late and it's probably been said before but she is gorgeous! Every time she comes on screen I have to look away to listen to her tell the story
More from the tangent universe please! Love your channel
I love Alia just off this videos she totally needs to be brought back. She’s lowkey an icon.
I remember reading a bunch of these back in the day, and enjoying them. I think my favourite was their joker.
I do feel that the main DC universe is less affected by superheroes than you'd think. For instance, literally no one seems to factor in people who can fly into their security systems. Wanna break into somewhere? Just land on the roof, slip in through the fire exit. And if superheroes can invent flying cars and stuff, how come no one else has? Of course, it's all trying to make the world more relatable, but I like it when a comic recognises things like this.
Never knew of any of this 'till now. I now want a copy of every issue of The Flash, **and* of every Tangent Universe book published!
The Tangent Universe looks hella cool!
Oh THAT'S who that is. She showed up in the main Flash book this week (761) with a whole mess of other speedsters and I had no clue who she was. XD now I've only got one left that Idk who they are....
OMG Shasha, you’re killin me with your impersonation of Lia, lol!
I picked all of these up when they were released. I had a feeling of this Flash as the campy 60's Batman in the present day. The Metal Men story was pretty awesome, I really liked Nightwing, and Wonder Woman was a fun read. I'm so glad you covered this!
I very much enjoyed the Tangent stuff when it came out. Some more than others. But still all entertaining, and fresh.
As funny and exemplary as ever. Love the character voices.
I can pretty much listen to any comic story no matter how bad it is so long as Sasha is giving the commentary
Wow your review for this comic was so good that it’s making me wanna buy it! Wish me luck on my search, stay groovy!
Aww I'm happy whenever there's a Scooby-Doo reference
I want more of this !
Your hair is always on point!!
Love your video commentaries 😂
I had forgotten how goofy the first comic is for the Flash. Love it! And love the Clueless voice, which like, you know, she was totally going for. :P
How have I not known this is a thing! I don't know if I'd want a whole series on her yet, but I do want to know about more of these.
Your voice for Lia is awesome! It reminds me of Quinn, from _Daria_ 😆
Tangent was one of my favorite alternate takes on the DCU especially Harvey Dent as Superman because his version was such an original take on not just the character of Harvey Dent but how he became Superman.
