Who is Image Comics' Tech Jacket? The Invincible "Iron Man"

- This video explores the abilities, powers, and origin of the Image / Invincible Comics character "Tech Jacket." From the young man Zack Thompson stumbling upon the wreckage of an alien spacecraft containing a weakening Geldarian named Kelda, his life being spared from the crsft's explosion by the Tech Jacket armored suit being permanently bonded to his body, learning to use this advanced alien technology to become a superhero within the Invincible Universe, to being an important ally to Invincible Mark Grayson and the Guardians of the Globe during the events of the Invincible War as well as striving alongside Allen the Alien in the Viltrumite War; Let's take a look at this high-tech Image Comics superhero, and the most powerful armor suit in the Invincible Universe. This includes a short, canon character biography and my own opinionated "Sage Rating," which I use to give ratings of comic book and science fiction characters.

His suit was capable of taking on Viltrumites at long and close range, Zach is pretty much a heavy hitter in the Invincible universe.
How did he take Viltrumites at long range?
I read the whole comic and the only long range attack he did was pink laser that wasn’t doing jack shit

@@superdewott3209 he probably could if he could actually hit him. There’s no way he would be able to. He’s too slow for thragg and so is any weapon he has. However he definitely can defeat weaker members of the race. Anyone can with the right weapon. Just not thragg. His abilities are just too high. Even if you caught him by surprise and the attack landed, he would be able to move just enough to make the shot not fatal.

Robot is Iron Man
No he’s more like the Guyver and his suit acts more like a Guyver unit. Although, Tech Jackets ability to create weapons and constructs by using his imagination is very reminiscent of Ironman’s Extremis suit but other than that he reminds me of the Guyver. Even Tech Jackets back story and how the armor works is straight out of the Guyver lore and mythos.
Close I would say more accurately the Guyver even the control metal is located on the same spot on both the forehead

Cool design too, love when amazon has those store credits so I can get more books. I'll definitely check some previews. Just remember you won't find anything unless you make tech jacket two words, damn search engines.

I was going to say the same exact thing. There’s definitely a large Guyver influence in the way his armor operates.
I’m a huge Guyver fan and with that being said I love both live action movies. Personally I think the second film, Guyver 2 the Dark Hero was a massive improvement on the first. I’d recommend Guyver 2 Dark Hero to anyone who wants to watch a guy with a Badass bio/mechanical armor that gives him vast superhuman abilities which enables him to kick the shit out of the alien like Zoanoids. Also, the Guyver anime series called The Guyver the Bioboosted Armor from 2005-2006 is absolutely fantastic. The animation studio, Oriental Light and Magic did an amazing job translating the first four volumes of the manga to an epic cartoon series. Again, I highly recommend that to anyone who loves the Guyver. The entire series is on Funimation for free and it’s on Hulu if you have an account.

So, he has the powers of the Green Lantern and Iron Man combined, with a very similar backstory to Hal Jordan, using similar tech like the Blue Beetle.

I like this guy. Hope he gets an animated tv series following the success of Invincible. I feel a large part of why a lot of comic book doesn't get recognition compared to manga because of lack of exposure

Well he created Tech Jacket the same year that he created Invincible, the guy is genius when it comes to comic creations. So of course he's going to include Tech Jacket in the show, seeing that he also owns the character but Tech Jacket could never get his own show coz his comic book run wasn't that long it's like 12 Chapters long that's it.

I always seen him more as a Guyver but Bleeding edge Iron Man makes sense as well.
Well the Tech Jacket heals the user as well and it is does in conjucture with the user, the better the user the stronger the suit.
Yeah, it's crazy how much powerful the suit can get based on its user. When the original Geldarian aliens (who are only slightly weaker than normal humans) wears it, they are basically just as strong as MCU Iron Man. But when an average human boy wears the Tech Jacket, he becomes powerful enough to match 2 Invincibles.
Imagine how powerful that suit could get if a Viltrumites or someone like Battle Beast wore it?

They are not slightly weaker than human, they need the armours to survive! It is why a human wearing one was so much stronger than them.

They have been able to go naked on Earth's gravity without receiving any kind of harm. So I don't think it's so much they need even their civilian class suits to survive, so much as they just have become so reliant on their suits that they need them for a comfortable life.
They are weaker than humans, but it's unclear to what extent.

Although, spoiler alert, slight weakness is that the increase in strength doesn't help him match against stronger opponents since he has had be out matched in strength before and in the Invincible War he only survived was by almost killing himself through self destruction like attack

Sounds like More like a special tribute to the Bio Booster Armor Guyver. Special hinting to the ability to increase the user strength by 100 times and the fact that it was created by aliens to be a bio armor.

I think of him as The Blue Beetle (Jayme Reyes) of Image comics more then Bleeding Edge Iron man, C'mon look at the origin stories, they're pretty much the same, even the not able to take the suit part. Robot is the iron man of the invincible universe, tech jacket is the blue beetle of the invincible universe.
He can be the invincible version of the blue beetle.
That suit is awesome.
Always that having such a suit would make the character unstoppable and limited but nice to see people make it work. Nice video.
To sum up Tech Jacket's story, it's basically what if Blue Beetle was recruited by the T'au to go in a space adventure/war against an empire of evil BayMaxes.
He also then gets to face off a bounty hunter that can 1-hit-kill a Galactus wannabe, and cosmic cyborg dragons, but otherwise is just a really powerful side character on Invincible.
Also fun fact: The concept of Tech Jacket served as the pitch story that got Robert Kirkman (Invincible's creator) into the comic industry.

Tech Jacket has always been part of the invincible universe. Basically any image comic superheroes that is written by Robert Kirkman is part of the invincible universe. It’s basically called the Kirkmanverse instead of invincible universe

i used to have a tech jacket... mine was beetle themed tho... but i put on weight after my "nickelodeon moon shoes" accident back in 2004. It no longer fits property, very tight... very very tight.

Everyone is comparing him to Blue Beetle and yeah he is in a since. But, that’s only due to the fact that his suit is alien tech. And maybe because they edge he was when he got the tech. But I would most definitely compare his costume to Ironman’s Superior Ironman costume the white one. And if the creators did take inspiration from someone I can 85% say it would be Ironman and not Blue Beetle. But I imagine they probably used a combination of both characters in all honesty.

@@donkeykong4983 Guyver was a super graphic anime back in the 90’s that follows roughly the same concept of Tech Jacket, Iron Man, and Blue Beetle. Guyver’s suit was organic though and had some unique traits. Check it out

Albeit, I wouldn't say he is Invincible Iron Man (Pun intended), but more like Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes) since both got their powers via an extraterrestrial armor that permanently was attached to their bodies, said armor also has weapon-creation abilities.
Robot on the other had several suits of armor created by himself, has a genius intellect with technopathy supporting him (Something that Stark had in multiple occasions), and other similarities I won't mention because those would be spoilers.
