The KLM Delft's Blue Houses are filled with Dutch gin (Jenever). It's a staple in our culture, more or less and by distributing it with our houses it's even more Dutch then only the design. I'm happy you enjoyed our National airline!

I flew your airline back in 1996 and I must say I was very impressed with the flight and the outstanding service! The flight attendants were super nice and the fun part is I am part Dutch so I talked to them in both Dutch and English and they taught me a few good phrases.

I fly on KLM quite a lot as I travel from the USA to Amsterdam in business trips. A great airline for sure. I did get a chance to fly on a KLM 787 last year from AMS to DEL. Unfortunately, I was in economy as that’s our company policy. Although the plane was nice and quiet and the ambient lighting is cool, I really found the seating a bit uncomfortable. In the economy section, KLM have narrow seats and incredibly narrow armrests. So narrow you bump into the next passenger while trying to eat. The food was decent and the service was excellent! KLM is one of the better airlines.

My Trips Yes, I do get upgrades on Delta quite a bit as I fly them mostly domestically and often overseas (or on other Skyteam airlines like KLM, AF, Korean Air, etc.). With about 1.6 million miles on DL, they take “Pity” on me and often move me up a class or two. My award miles are mostly used for personal travel rather than upgrades. My wife likes to join me on Euro trips and that tends to use up the miles.
I agree about seating comfort on 787s in economy. Like United and American, KLM must have a 3-3-3 seating configuration. Even flight attendants complain that it’s too tight in the aisles while doing a service. Otherwise, the plane inside and out is gorgeous. But I wouldn’t want to be in 787 economy on a long haul flight.
I agree, what a nightmare to be in economy, same here narrow seat and leg room, did not even know I was on one until I came find out half the flight. I could not believe I was actually one one, all the hoopla about Dreamliner, more like a Nightmare liner!! People were struggling to nap 😴 , trying to find a comfortable way to sit in the seat!
This trip - and your video - checked all the boxes. A top level flight in every regard. I have commented in another video that KLM gave me my Flight From Hell years ago, and it's good to see that it was an anomaly.

Cartagena is so beautiful!!! I did the tour of Colombia last Christmas with TK on the IST-BOG-PTY-BOG route.I flew with KLM on the AMS-MEX route.Even though the catering in business class wasn't top notch, the crew was the best ever!

Excellent video. Of course I have been to Cartagena because I am from Bogota, Colombia. It is the main tourist destination in the Colombian Caribbean. The reason why the KLM 787 has to make a stop at CTG on its way to AMS is due to the height of BOG which causes the flight to have takeoff restrictions. Best regards

@@MyTrips_Aviation No. Those flights that depart early in the evening have restrictions specially the flights operated in dual engine planes like the 787. That's the reason why almost every flight to Europe depart late in the night, so the weather is colder. Take into account that BOG is 2.600 mts above sea level.

Grew up in Colombia and visited Cartagena every Spring, it is a great place to vacation.
I have been in Cargagena. Nice, clean and safe tourist spot, but for the beaches I recommend Santa Marta.

The 787-9 in KLM's livery has got to be one of my favorite liveries for the 787, I mean ya Etihad has a killer one and so does a lot of other airlines but the blue with the black cockpit is just beautiful, its a lovely shade of blue and the plane itself is so good looking. Def up there in my top 5 fave 787 liveries for sure.

Thank you so much, I appreciate it. During take off and landing I use a suction cup on the window to keep the camera stable. Nothing else when editing. The rest of the filming I just hold the camera

I love KML's livery and the mood lighting too, it's just beautiful! Your engine view is very beautiful. Was there a storm? At 5:14 it's too much dark clouds outside, looks like there gonna be a storm at Bogota. Your video is very interesting because you land at somewhere and wait in a plane and then fly again, it's quite rare to watch trip report like yours nowadays. I think you’re not a regular traveler. Just look at the menu, so poor.. they served ice cream like you are in the economy class and the business class ticket is too expensive for a poor service compared to other airlines

Thank you. There was no wheelchair. I assume she had some care given onboard but it happened behind the scenes
KLM is so much better off when it is independent again and not just the profit maker / milking cow for Air France, which looses money at warp speed. OK, now it is covid time, but a healthy KLM is a blessing for aviation, the passengers and the Netherlands.

I'm Colombian, but I've been to Cartagena once. It's a beautiful city, I love Colombia in general. But I'm not trying to be bias when I say it's a beautiful city.

My trips, Is there a passport control before in Columbia before boarding area? (Some countries have it some-not). It's interesting to find out how it is in Columbia. Passport control is when agent put a "departure" stamp in your passport.
As far as I remember I only had my passport checked when passing through immigration. There was no other check when boarding, just the usual ID check

I am in love wd this livery ... klm is so cool .... the blue is attracting me .... plus the nut bowl , seat and catering is just wow .... the complete package of KLM ... the review is great as usual , and the trip report deserves a 👍. I want to try this Dreamliner . What the nicest part is the pilot being so fantastic that he apologised for the uncanny turbulence... it shows how professional he is .. 👏

Do you know if this KLM Service and food is about the same quality as KLM service from the USA? SFO to AMS in business class is on my itinerary for April.
I would like to think that it will be the same but I haven’t done that route. What aircraft are you flying?
My Trips ....The KLM flight is a 787-9. Out of SFO Seems like food service is awful on United(no surprise), and BA, and just ok on Air France to Paris. Swiss Air is phenomenal.

When someone comments on turbulence I am always curious how "much" it was to compare if I have experience myself. For how long did it last and what happened?
It started suddenly and lasted for about 25 minutes. I was laying flat and had to hold with both hands to keep myself stable. The aircraft was dropping a lot and then going upwards. Banging left and right randomly as well. Two FAs fell on seats before they managed to seat down and fasten themselves. Thankfully only minor injuries. There was also a passenger at the back that had a panic attack as I was told my another FA
@@MyTrips_Aviation sounds like a bizarre phenomenon. But I heard of this happening before maybe a year ago. I forget what airline it was with, but it happened on a Boeing 777, and the plane dropped suddenly and was a pretty long drop. Passengers weren't wearing their seatbelts, and the force of the plane dropping so fast made some of them launch out of their seats, one of the flight attendants actually hit her head on the cabin roof and was injured rather seriously.

They both belong in the same group and have merged. They operate as two airlines but they are under the same ownership simply. Hence the nearly identical layout and seats in the Dreamliners that they have

CAT's are never visible on the radar. They host no moisture that's why the random can't face it. It happens sometimes without a warning. Cold air gets mixed with warmer air and the plane falls down a few feet. Not dangerous at all for the structure of the plane but for unbuckled passengers. That's why you always should fasten your seat belt when sitting.
I’m guessing they aren’t allowed to fly direct from Bogota to Amsterdam because of weight restrictions. Bogota is very high in altitude, meaning much longer takeoffs, and it’s a long way to Amsterdam so there’s immense amounts of fuel required to get to Holland from Colombia. In addition the 787 uses a lot of runway as an aircraft type. So they have to route you via Cartagena first.

KLM is the unique European airline that makes that stop in Cartagena. Airbus a 340-600 of Iberia and Lufthansa is way heavier and in the majority of the time is fully loaded. For that reason, the pilots of that plane first fly to the South of the city to gain altitude, and then they turn back to the north.
@@ROCKNROLL947 Yeah, that will command a lot of runway. The A340 series is notoriously hungry for runway, only to mention Bogota is about 8,000 feet or more in altitude.
That's because Bogota has an altitude of around 2600 m above sea level and most fully loaded aircraft can't take off at these altitudes for long haul flights, especially at Eldorado Airport which only has 3800 m runways. That's why KLM has to make a stopover at Cartagena which is much closer to sea level in altitude.

@@MyTrips_Aviation Flights leaving from BOG in general have to take into account weight restrictions. IB and LH operate 4 engine aircraft which allows them higher weight clearance as regulations take into account one engine failures on take off. AF does not fill all cargo or pax seats as they carry regularly more premium pax which allows them financially to have a profitable flight, plus they do have a later departure hour hence lower temperatures which also helps for more pay load. AV operates the 788 to Europe which is a little bit shorter and have better payload for high altitude take offs. TK also operates 789 on a day departure towards IST and therefore operate the return flight via a stopover in Panama City. PTY.

It’s considered one flight from Bogota to Amsterdam with a stopover. I got miles for the whole trip and probably more than what I expected. I think around 8k for the return trip

Spirit flies to Bogota? Oh man that's got to be an endurance test.
They actually fly to 7 different Colombian cities from Fort Lauderdale and from Orlando also to Bogotá. South Florida to Colombia is a very competitive market. But then again it is only a 3 hour to central Colombian cities and 2 hours to Caribbean Colombian cities.
Great review as always, that starter for the main course was epic, worthy of 1st class.
Loved the outside shots, always great to do a small stop over if you do not have to get off the plane, landing and climb thrown in for free. And some great shots out of the window on the weather and mountains.
One point of note, I notice you get banding on your camera at night with artificial lighting. Seen this on other flight reporters. Sometimes auto focus in low light conditions takes a while to get sharp as well. It would be great to see what the ideal combo camera wise would be for that, as well as being wide angle and going to 4k.
Shooting on a plane sorts the men out from the boys camera wise. Really adverse conditions for them to film.
Shooting in darkness does cause some banding as you noticed. I try to turn lights on as much as possible but it’s not always enough. I have thought of bringing some lights with me for cases like this but I’m not at that level yet
@@MyTrips_Aviation On re-reading my post I hope you did not think I was criticising your work, it was more on the camera side and how they struggle on planes. They have to do low light work. wide angle, and perhaps zoom for outside the plane. I have a sony A5100 with 19mm and 30mm lenses and I notice the 19mm does autofocus in low light a lot quicker than the 30, and that is with the same camera.
It would be interesting to know what the best cameras are for this sort of video from all the flight video reporters. I saw Paul Stewart having issues with his new Olympus a while back that gets great reviews but had some plane based issues.
