As tragic as this was, the actual incident was beyond brutal. From the wikipage:
"The boat was destroyed by the force of the blast and Mountbatten's legs were almost blown off. Mountbatten, then aged 79, was pulled alive from the water by nearby fishermen, but died from his injuries before being brought to shore.
Also aboard the boat were his elder daughter Patricia, Lady Brabourne; her husband Lord Brabourne; their twin sons Nicholas and Timothy Knatchbull; Lord Brabourne's mother Doreen, Dowager Lady Brabourne; and Paul Maxwell, a young crew member from Enniskillen in County Fermanagh. Nicholas (aged 14) and Paul (aged 15) were killed by the blast and the others were seriously injured.[137] Doreen, Dowager Lady Brabourne (aged 83), died from her injuries the following day."

This made it seem PG in comparison to actual events. They barely made it out of the harbour when the boat was blown up, and Mountbatten, aged 79 lost both of his legs in the explosion and had to be fished out by locals who were nearby, he died from his injuries soon after. Not only that but his daughter, her husband, her Husband's mother, their two sons (shown here who were aged just 14 and 15) and a young Irish crew member were all killed from the explosion. To all the people who say 'based' or 'a rightful death' in the comments are legit mentally unwell.

Never forget that Mountbatten was warned over and over again not to go his ill-gotten estate in Ireland, the IRA considered themselves at war and that he was therefore a valid target. Not only did he ignore these warnings, he was so arrogant that he must've thought that no one would dare attack him, to the point bringing innocents with into harm's way with him. I don't think anyone relishes the deaths of the children, they didn't deserve to die, but Britain had showed they weren't above causing civilian casualties to keep their boot on Ireland's neck, so why should the IRA?
Remember that this is the man whose catastrophic handling of the partition of India helped cause upwards of a million deaths and god knows how many were displaced, and never showed an ounce of regret. He reaped what he sowed, and maybe if he wasn't stupid enough to keep going to a country whose inhabitants wanted him dead, maybe those poor children would still be alive.

I love charles dance but going to be honest I don't think he was the best choice for Mountbatten, he came across as too passive and that's not charles dance lol, I say that mostly because I think he would have been better as Phillip in the last 2 seasons, again no disrespect to jonathan Pryce who's a wonderful actor but I just don't think he's going to capture the Phillip character that's been established here very well. We'll see though

Agreed! Tbh if I had done the casting I would have switched Charles and Jonathan around and had Jonathan play Mountbatten, and Charles as Prince Phillip.
