  • Illegal oil refining in Nigeria is at an all-time high and the Federal Government says about $3.27 billion worth of oil has been lost to oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the past months. This is one of the many critical issues rocking the nation, as the issue of insecurity is also a major concern in the country at a time when the country is gearing up for its general elections. Niger Delta Activist, Asari Dokubo speaks on the Arise Interview.

Kudos Asari, you nailed it here but i beg to disagree with you when it comes to Presidential candidates. Lagos is overrated abeg and it's better imagined than experienced. Have spent 10yrs there and Meeeeh its really crappy and unorganized with people spending upto 6hrs a day in traffic, Apapa axis is the worst. Obi is the most Credible and will do a better job in checkmating these illegalities in govt and help to diversify the economy amongst others if given the opportunity.

And so fucking what? He is a Niger delta band he has the capacity to protect the pipe lines from being vandalised and leaking crude oil everywhere and into the Atlantic. Have you seen how far he became? He is too big now to patrol the jungle so he will create jobs for youths who can never steal oil. Win win for Nigeria or you think a Yoruba man or an Hausa man will survive that region if men from another tribe are employed to be guiding the pipelines? It wouldn’t be long before the piss on the native and with a nice machete their heads would be relocated from their necks. All of the other nations within Nigeria are 100 percent biased towards the ones who own the oil and Nigeria would be nothing but a 100 percent poor and useless country without the Niger delta oil that made us everything that we are and will ever be in the future because agriculture died and the oil wealth built Nigeria from the ground up.

How shallow minded and empty our minds and reasoning is when it comes to analysing issues of national importance. Crude oil thefts and bunkering activities is a collosal damage to our economy and environment and it is an obvious and indisputable fact. As Asari lamented the securities are not doing their work but rather are conniving with the bunkers .who settles them .I am talking from personal experience. I was once lured to engage in such business by a friend and when I visited the area do the dirty biz. I nearly wept and couldn't continue because I couldn't understand how one can engage in such a n economic sabotage and still not be worried.

Both Asari Dokubo and Arise News (presenter) are seemingly biased regarding the issue of presidential aspirants. That was very clear concerning Peter Obi. The right logic would have been: The South East ought now to benefit from the rotation, and Peter Obi is the best available man of pedigree. Asari's diversion to extoling Tinubu and Atiku are preposterous and mischievious and treacherous. Obi transformed Anambra the best the revenue could go and left billions in coffers. Lagos' int. gen. revenue is triple that of Anambra, still Lagos cannot be compared to Asari's Cape Verde and Mauritius. It's like Asari travelled only within Lagos Island and Anambra hinterlands, and based his judgement on that alone.

As for the security agencies, they are just doing business out there. Get the BVNs of all the security men serving in the area and investigate their assets vis-a-vis their legitimate earnings and you would be shocked at the wealth they have amassed. What are the sources of such wealth? We talk like we don't know what's going on. Traditional rulers, activists like him talking, security men and govt officials are all in the game. Until there is a competent and discipline govt, nothing will change. The leaders of the Niger Delta are the worse thieves. They don't care about their own people or environment. As l listened to him,it seems the awarding of the contract to an israelies company that does nothing bothers him, suggest the oil copany should set up a commitee with the local & Asari involved to find a solution to the spillage situation.

The government knows what is going on and anything that politicians are making money from in Nigeria will not end. How about bokoharam, Iswap NDDC etc.
Our leaders doesn't care about Nigeria as they care about their political parties but without Nigeria and her constitution there is no political party.
Our political elites needs to put Nigeria first in everything for there to be progress.

His assessment of Tinubu is not entirely correct. Assuming the FCT is moved to another state today and a governor takes over the leadership of Abuja, there is already a template for the government to build upon. Lagos state was the economic hub of Nigeria when Tinubu came on board.

This is the Asari I will like to know. This is the most candid interview of what is wrong with the oil producing regions over the years. The spirit of Wiwa is weaving its lost meaning back into the realities of our current consciousness of what has been so wrong about the sectors dynamics and its effects on the region and the nation. No body is perfect. There are pressures for survival when the opposing force is so overwhelming. We live to fight another day when we compromise with words and actions that will surprise most. The situation is still on. Go bro!
