Ha this is such an old video. I remember watching this like 5 years ago when I got my BC's and this was out before then.

Tried this method and destroyed the 5mm allen at the top of the shock shaft. To avoid this you can remove the hub mount and take the spring off the bottom of the strut. It will mean you'll have to reset your ride height but if you're changing springs you would have to do this anyway.

If it's not a progressive spring does pre-load matter?

Other than removing the coilovers, do you need to do anything before unscrewing the top screw? First time install, and I have a ripped Dust boot, wanted to replace before installing. But I believe the previous owner had them set very low. I wasn't sure if that caused the spring be under some compression when not installed?

What if you’re really strong and have muscley arms and can turn the lower spring perch much further than most puny arm girly men?
All jokes aside, I’m turning the spring perch it seems I will run outta thread before I can’t turn it by hand anymore(and I’m not all that muscley lol).

Good question. Following, but I'll mention that the paper work says not to compress the spring more than 5mm or it causes something or another.

The guy in the vid looks pretty weak, like he curls Monster Energy drinks while vaping. But what I’m uncertain about is if they mean just able to turn the lower perch, or just able to turn the spring. Sounds like it’d be the same but when I turn the perch by hand so it’s barley able to move, the spring is very tight/not able to move. But when I turn the perch so the spring can barely be moved, the perch is fairly loose. So ya, shitty instructions. BC sucks

Can the preload be adjusted properly while coilovers are on the car?

That was my question coming here cuz if you set it to this preload off the car, then I stall them, then raise the strut, it ends up compressing the spring more. Would be nice to have an official answer from bc

7-10mms on BCRacing Coilovers. Could just call them. This is old anyway, probably know already.

There's another video (two total on their site) that goes over this. Basically you want to set the spring and height, then compress with the strut until the spring is compressed about a 1/4"

Just getting around to replacing my front shocks. Right outta the box they were shit. Had them on for 250 miles and they banged really hard/bottomed out. Barely drove the car bcuz of this. Got the shocks replaced under warranty, but I have a feeling the new ones won’t last. Mostly bcuz BC Racing is absolutely trash. For $1100 they’re on not top of the line but they shouldn’t be total garbage either. Yes I expect better. $1100 ain’t nuthin to sneeze at. Surprised there isn’t a class action lawsuit tbh.

BC coilovers comes preload from factory? Also how low the car will sit with the coilovers straight from the box?
