This song has a very peculiar story behind. Its title was originally "Valery", written by Alfredo Cohen, Franco Battiato and Giusto Pio. Valery was a young transexual and LGBT activist, met by Cohen who had the idea to write this song in 1979. In 1982 Battiato re-wrote part of the lyrics for Milva, shifting the subject from Valery to the life in the eastern Berlin (the wall wa still up).

It's creazy that it would take an American guy to make me re-discover Milva. When I was little in Italy I felt her music and stage persona smelled old, because I was young and silly. Battiato wrote also two beautiful, beautiful songs for the charming and elegant Alice (pron. Aah-lee-tche): "Prospettiva Nevskij" [1983, depicting the ancient atmosphere of the Nevsky Prospect in St. Petersburg] and "Per Elisa" [the title recalling Beethoven's Für Elise - 1981]. Elisa should be the metaphore of heroin, as those years drugs were still very popular. Anyway: neither the author nor the singer ever confirmed. Battiato and Alice also took part to Eurovision in 1985 with "I treni di Tozeur/The trains of Tozeur, about this city of Morocco] and perfromed a surely iconic stage.

She was known as "The panther of Goro". Goro is a small town near Bologna in Italy.
Goro is at the boundaries between Ferrara and Rovigo. I live some minutes far from there... Unfortunately I never met her :(
