Wow, Paolo Conte! You are picking the very best of Italian music! In Conte the lyrics are particularly important, he is a kind of poet. To get the mood of this song you have to think of poor peasants and hard rural life. Maybe the closest thing in American culture is John Steinbeck novels: The Grapes of Wrath and stuff like that. Red Devil was Giovanni Gerbi, an old racing cyclist of the beginning of '900, which grew up in that country environment.
I feel inspired for a translation and a comment of this song.
RED DEVIL
Those little blonde girls
With those little rings in their ears,
All brides who will give birth
To men big as trees.
And when you will try to convince them
Then you'll see they are really made of wood. [
Grazie, ottimo post!
Thank you, sir
one of my favs song of Paolo Conte
Paolo Conte,grandissimo,musicista,cantante e compositore.
Paolo Conte songs are more like paintings than songs... Colours, shades, lights
Diavolo Rosso (Red Devil) was the nickname of Giovanni Gerbi (20 May 1885 - 6 May 1955), an Italian cyclist. That nickname was due to his typical red shirt which reflected his attitude ready for the challenge, of those who never give up. A legend tells that during a race he frightened a priest: seeing that red cyclist throw havoc by breaking into a procession on his bike, he exclaimed: "who is that devil?". (Sorry for my bad english).
Grazie!
Vero , grazie
Figo!!
Paolo Conte! Italian master of jazz!💜
Awesome musicians as ever. Paolo Conte has written some of the best songs for many Italian singers. Top class...
This performance is a true masterpiece and the best mix I have ever seen of jazz, folk, country and classical music
Grande l'avvocato musicista !
I was born in Asti I know him like everybody there beautiful person..n1🍻
Have no idea who this is although I am sure I should but the "Diavolo Rosso" or "Red Devil" got my attention. Reminds me of the late, great Italian composer Ennio Morricone who passed away last summer; you will know him for his scores for many a spaghetti western. Now I will have to listen to more Paolo Conte when I can break away from Maneskin!!
Listen to Bartali and Via con me.
Very good music
Antonella Cusimano agree ..."dancing" is another of those Paolo Conte songs I like a lot. ...and "Azzurro" ça va sans dire :-)
dude y must listen Paolo Conte, in my opinion one of the most great Italian musician/composer ever!
Just stop listening to maneskin
Azzurro, by Paolo Conte, is the second national anthem for Italy. They sang it from the balconies, during the pandemia. Please, react to that song, if you want
There are two versions: by Adriano Celentano, the most famous, and by Paolo Conte, very beautiful. I could not decide which one to like the most
@@danielamento7685 Conte superior
You have to react Franco Battiato!!! Listen "Centro di gravità permanente", "Summer on a solitary beach", "Voglio vederti danzare", "Up Patriots To Arms", "Prospettiva Nevski", "No Time No Space", "Cuccurucucù", ...
"Centro di gravità permanente" Is a mood. Love It. ;)
Maybe also his experimental years.
Amazing😍
"Via con me" good shit. 👌

Incredible song!! That's i don't knew...and incredibile react!! Isn't headbanging...but something like hysteric banging with this sound!! Masterpiece!!
To whoever recommended this performance: THANK YOU! I didn't know it existed, you made me discover a pearl
yeah..finally some great italian musician..:)
I love Conte! He is a mood, great music and poetry!
your intuition led you to a great Italian musician "Paolo Conte". congratulations for the choices in the Italian musical paths
I recommend "Azzurro" (his version) or especially "Wonderful - via con me" he's a true jazz genius. Both are less "orchestral" and more like standard songs
Is not a cover: he wrote it! 😉
@@helix-6189 the original song was performed by celentano tho
@@hika_ariel Celentano brought it to fame, but the song was wrote and recordered by Conte. So is not a cover of Conte, but a song of Conte.
@@helix-6189 I was pretty sure he wrote it for celentano and then did his own version, but hey I may be wrong, either way I fixed it
@@hika_ariel yes he wrote it for him, but there is a first recordering of Conte. At that time, like 1968/69, surely Celentano was Celentano and Conte was not Conte yet 😄
Next please Ivan Graziani
Fantastico
About Paolo Conte:
" Vieni via con me"
And
" Azzurro"
👍
He was a great musician a poet among other ones that you are getting to know Grazie. Tks
Hey Ang, Paolo Conte is my absolute jam. No doubt he is as far from rock/metal as he could possibly be, so hat off to you for dedicating one of your video to him and for appreciating his music. That said, missing entirely the lyrics is particularly crippling with this artist: imagine trying to make sense of a Bob Dylan's or Leonard Cohen's song without understanding the words, in term of complexity we are in that ball park. So, I hope a bit of context and my translation could help you a bit in that sense.
The song is about Giovanni Gerbi, a professional cyclist active in the early '900 nicknamed "Diavolo Rosso" (Red Devil). Just like Paolo Conte, he was born and raised in Asti (Piedmont), and the song both celebrates him and the city as it was in those old times: still very rural, and surrounded by paddy fields.
RED DEVIL
Those blonde little girls
With those little hoops on their earlobes
They’ll all be brides who’ll give birth
To men as big as trees
And when you’ll try to reason with them
You’ll see they’re indeed made of wood
Red Devil
Forget the road
Come with us
To drink some orange juice
[But] In backlight the whole time
He runs away
Look at the longest nights
Of this North-West adorned with stars
And the wagons’ trails
Icy as the Frenchmen’s gaze
A waltz of wind and straws
The rural Death
That arises from the paddy fields
Croaking like a frog
And swiftly
It lands on the white farmyards
Like reapers for hire
Voices, more voices from the sun
More abysses of lights from this countryside
And [more abysses] of land and soul
Nothing more than horses and quinine
Voices, hotels’ rumours:
Lovers from this great plain
Queens of couriers and curbstones
Their discretion is old fashion
It’s water and honey.
Red Devil
Forget the road
Come with us
To drink some orange juice
[But] In backlight the whole time
He runs away
The fireflies spin
In the wheels of the night
This darkness smells like hay and distant shores
And this song maybe tastes like ratafia’ [Piedmont traditional liqueur].
And that fucking guitar never stops
Great Conte! He's a great jazz singer, our best of all the times. Unfortunately ypu don't understand the words, he's so poetic and ironic. So... Better listen to "Il quadrato è il cerchio". Easy listening
👍
I suggest our great Master Franco Battiato, who died recently. 'La voce del padrone' best italian lp in my opinion. Amazing career, he was always ahead with his music czcams.com/video/-Y44YzIODw0/video.html
Best live performance ever. Paolo Conte and his horchestra give us all the knownledge about music. Solos are perfect. Take a look on Paolo Conte smiles of thankfulness
Please react to Diana Ankudinova !
She has insane and unique vocals and great stage presence and her performances (from the show You are Super ! ( win twice ) are gorgeously choreographed and you should find them very interesting. Top song choices are up Wicked Game, Derniere Danse, Blizzard ( Вьюга ) , Human , River ( Реченька ) . She is really an amazing young artist!

⬆️ Wicked Game
Paolo Conte, you are a truly gifted human being. Grazie Maestro! 🙏

Conte uno dei grandi geni del 900
The instrument you don't know the name it's the clarinet🇮🇹in italian Clarinetto
Hello, thank you for the video. I advise you to make, if you haven't done it yet, a reaction to the wonderful young singer Diana Ankudinova. This girl will surprise you with her artistry and rare timbre of voice. She has covers of famous songs, and also performs her own songs.
I can't believe you watched my favorite live version of this song, the accordion clearly sold his soul to the devil there, this is jazz to the highest point of beauty and difficulty. Paolo Conte is an amazing composer👌👌
Man I know you are watching this, if you wanna see a nice Italian band that does more of a rock genre I highly suggest you to check Baustelle ("Charlie fa surf"). Also there are great ones that do more pop rock music, but still great though, like Frah Quintale, Fulminacci or Calcutta😀❤️
The solos sound like Yiddish music.
The song tells of an Italian cyclist, nicknamed Red Devil, who, during a race, crosses a small town in the Italian province when a procession was held for the feast of the patron saint.
For me this is one of the best live versions of this song.
Paolo Conte wrote for several interpreters of Italian music, especially in his youth, unforgettable Azzurro sung by Adriano Celentano, Genova per noi. He has always claimed to stop his musical passion in the twenties of the last century.
If I can afford to recommend some songs I would not leave out Boogie, Come dì and, in order not to disappoint anyone, Via con me.
In addition to the plan, Paolo likes to get angry, ironically, on his kazoo.
Then what about the instrumentalists, the impassive drummer Daniele di Gregorio and the unstoppable guitarist Daniele Dall'Olmo.
i love paolo conte. u are close to know a big of italian music, lucio battisti. he is like beatles here
Paolo Conte: He belongs to the University of the italian songs composers Tradition since the 60s with clear jazzy influence. .. it is a clarinet not a flute.
Please listens De André is great
Fantastico Paolo Conte. A genius. Ty Ang. 🔥🔥
I think that this is one of the most complex performances I've seen, for the complexity and the intensity that must be held for 10 minutes.
Probably if I was one of them I would have fucked up some notes after like 40 seconds
Che meravigliosa Energia!
Diavolo Rosso is dedicated to Giovanni Gerbi, a cyclist active in the early 1900s. The song is a kind of sung film, the obsessive and obstinate rhythmic base is like the pedaling cadence, the text describes what he might have seen crossing the land of north west Italy, the crossing of the plain is seen as a day that opens at dawn and closes at sunset. The passage of the cyclist somehow "breaks" the ordinary life of the people, who return relentlessly as soon as the race is over (the slowing of the pace at the end) We can also see it as a metaphor of modernity that breaks into an ancient and immobile peasant world, and/or of the awareness of an adult who goes through the certainties of his childhood. The literary form of the text is elegantly complex even for a native italian (as I am), google translator does not fully grasp all the nuances.
Ciao Ang!😍 nice reaction😘
Paolo Conte >>>>>>>>>>> everythings

heiiii! you will become an expert of the most tatenteed and iconic itslian artists 💪🏻🤩👏🏻
Great fusion music. Reminds me of some of the things I've seen from the likes of Eugenio Bennato, Pepe Barra, and Daniele Sepe, some of the more creative artists of Italian music and all very much worth exploring, but only when you feel like sitting back and concentrating--not really 'driving to work' material :).
You have to react to given up by linkin park, the 18 sec scream🔥
❤❤❤🫶🫶👏👏👏👏👏
Grazieeeee! Il Maestro!
Grande Paolo Conte!!!
Paolo Conte: l'eleganza dell'intelligenza (Andrea Camilleri)
That guitar player is a fucking locomotive.
Grande Paolo Conte!
Mamma mia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is really Mediterranean style, Arabic, Spanish and of course Italian influence in this.
Arab influences? Are you drunk? Mediterranean style? It was Jazz and sinti music roots, where is the mediterranean and Italy apart from the presence of italian musicians? I f Paolo is great is because he completely absorbs the international music styles.

I was wondering, since you know a bit of Italian music, let's try The Trip - Evoluzione. Quite ELP, with no lead guitar. If you want some guitar, The Trip - Caronte I.
Ohhh!piango dalle risate!!!🤣😂🤣😂🤣👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Talking about movies many Paolo Conte songs have been included in American movies soundtracks, the most famous and most used "Via con me" (away with me) czcams.com/video/4SwBLKr742k/video.html
BTW have you been watching the Tarantino movie Django Unchained? The only original song in the movie was composed by Ennio Morricone together with Elisa who also wrote and sang the song. The track in the movie is the actual demo Elisa recorded at her place since Tarantino preferred it to the finished polished track that was submitted for the movie. czcams.com/video/6APGb9z2BPI/video.html

DANG!
Hi Ang! Another Italian singer you should react is Zucchero. He's a bluesman and had an international success. He also made several collaborations with stars like Queen (he also sang at the concert dedicated to Freddie Mercury after his death), Eric Clapton, Miles Davis, Dolores O'Riordan, Paul Young, Bono (U2), Pavarotti and others. The English version of one of his songs is in the soundtrack of an American movie.
Some songs to suggest are:
- Madre dolcissima
- Il volo
- Senza una donna
- Menta e rosmarino
- Diamante
- Con le mani
- Miserere
- Così celeste
- Dopo di noi
Rock con la fisarmonica 👍
Congratulation. I love Vasco Rossi, Pino Daniele ( napolitan language).. In Italy there is great musical history.. Especially Napoli. The Beatles also wrote the greatest hits by copying Neapolitan melodies

I'm not a fan of Paolo Conte, i'm too linked to the 70' rock.
In any case, here you have a taste of typical popular Mediterranean music, with some arab influenced sounds and a hint of gypsy.
The use of manouches guitars, clarinet, violin and accordion is not an accident.
Arab influences? Are you drunk? Popular mediterranean music? It was Jazz and sinti music roots, where is the mediterranean apart from the presence of italian musicians?
