The dad was right, though! Do not talk to police without a lawyer, ever.

“Don’t commit murder” should be another important lesson.

Yes. I saw this episode.
I hope she got a lot of jail time not only she killed him but try to ruin his reputation and memory

Thank U for the summary, Kiarra. I Appreciate it.
Poor dude. Nobody wants to be kept a secret by their significant other. He couldnt deal with that (understandable) so he broke up with her but she wanted her cake & eat it to. Killed him & accused him of raping her. She's a real piece of work.

The dad couldn’t be more correct. *Never EVER say a WORD to law enforcement* under any circumstances. Lawyer up IMMEDIATELY and let him/her do ALL the talking.
In the words of Tom segura “I’m gonna talk to the cops and straighten this whole thing out. You’re gonna do 25 to life. Good luck with that”
Unless you saw the person who did it! Then let them know what you saw.
@@throckwoddle Nope, still work through a lawyer
@@colinhobbs7265 No way in hell I'll let someone else suffer because I fear the legal system. I will not have the bad guy's future victims on my conscience.
@@throckwoddleyeah but the cops could turn that around to 'why were you there? Why didnt you help thr victim?' or 'why didnt you come forward when you found out?' and if they dont have great forensics, they could try implicate you. Cops do not play above board
"I wanna explain what happened." Yeah because that's how it works. Once you explain why you committed the crime they'll totally let you off scot-free.
If what she said was true, it wasn't a crime. But she is an idiot. We have an adversarial legal system and the person she was talking to has the job of making arrests. That is who you never ever talk to. Only to say: I want my lawyer.
Remember the police are there to help you and they are the ones who will keep you out of jail.
Yeah she could've just kept her mouth shut and waited for the lawyer. Idiotic. But she wasn't innocent so I'm glad she talked 😇
@@angelgray8899 Except her whole story was a pack of lies so.... chances are when her lawyer got there she would tell them the same story, and they would tell the detectives and try for a plea deal.
Anything you say can & will be used against you.
In real life, you do NOT talk to the police without a lawyer, even if you think you have nothing to hide. (There are some exceptions, like if you get pulled over for a traffic violation, obviously. Even then, say only what's relevant for the traffic stop and do only what they police strictly tell you to do.)
Exactly!
Especially if you're innocent. How many innocent people have talked themselves into prison because they couldn't shut up. There's no benefit to talking to the police. 1) They can lie. 2) Anything you say can be used against you but NOT for your defence.
Even if they threaten you if you lawyer up do not talk, if you know an obscure language try that till your lawyer shows up. Don't talk at all.
i've always talked to cops, usually an alibi, and about Spongebob or The Land Before Time. people that are scared of incriminating themselves in the midst of a normal, random conversation should hit up a therapist after asking for a lawyer to practice adequate self-control.

@@Backroad_Junkie There's also at least three kids I can think of who have played different roles as an adult than they did as a child.
And a fourth I can think of who played the same role 10 years apart... if you watch the show, you'll remember that little boy who was a deeply disturbed child who terrorised other and was institutionalized after holding a police officer hostage... and then 10 years later, got out and slaughtered his family along with raping his psychiatrist's daughter! A very grueling role for that child/adult, I thought.
The episode is called Good Girl episode 3 of season 7 of Law & Order and originally aired on NBC on October 2, 1996 and in the Danielle Mason played by Chelsea Altman who kills her boyfriend Charles Monroe for rejecting her and it is one most intense and racially charged episode because the killer is a White Woman and the victim is a Black Man and Mason lied about Monroe raping her too and it was disgusting that they put the victim on trial and he wasn't alive to defend himself and that his parents had to hear and see their son's reputation being destroyed and Good Girl is one of my best and my favourite episodes of L&O and I love the episode, I love L&O and it is the best.

One of the most powerful episodes of the series - so intense about racial conflict that I don’t think it can be broadcast on network TV today - even the n-word is used once, and hostility and suspicion between Blacks and Whites features in every scene. Stunning!
Omg not the n word! They can't get away with this

In general is better to wait for the lawyer, even more so if you are innocent and not a minority. Something you say can be misconstrued either by error or intentionally. Bureaucracies are machines. that don't like to get stoped once they start.
Unfortunately, she wasn’t innocent.
Fun fact, this episode was adapted into the Law and Order UK episode, "Masquerade".

Mulaney pretty much explains this show to a t. the way the "witnesses" are constantly having these "walkin' and talkin' " scenes, is hilarious.
@@TDIdialgagirl The way the cops talk with people while they're working.
You are innocent to proven guilty in the eyes of the Court but they can arrest you in the eyes of the law 😐
innocent until proven guilty, my butt! Its the other way around, friend, you can see that in court
That is definitely true but I'm just going along with whatever the system is explaining itself
The legal system is built on the presumption of innocence until proven guilty by way of the process - the accused is given every consideration to be allowed to defend themselves. That's what they mean by innocent until proven guilty. You are allowed to defend yourself (which also includes - in this context - having a lawyer by your side to speak for you).
But the police work on assuming guilt. They then hand the criminal over to the legal system to prepare to defend himself, and their job is done.
It's the job of the police to catch the criminal, and the job of the legal system to determine his or her guilt or innocence.
You DO live in the most lenient country on earth - the legal system is built on the presumption of innocence, whether you see that or not.
Do you think women jailed or executed for offences in the Middle East are given ANY chance to even speak for themselves - let alone given a lawyer and a trial system to rigorously defend themselves!
I see all of this is into people feelings all I can say is people don't get in trouble okay stay out of the way 😜

she's 18 right, are the parents still allowed to be there??
Slightly off topic here, but does anyone know the name of the of jacket the father had on? I remember having those in the late 1970's.
I think it's a London Fog windbreaker. My dad had one, had a brown plaid lining.
In the 80's, Member's Only became all the rage with a similar style, but my dad had that London Fog as long as I could remember (I was born in the 60's). We donated it Goodwill or St. Vincent de Paul along with his other clothes when he passed away in 1991.
I guess that's why she's the lieutanent!!

Do Not Talk To The POLICE!
Do you know how hard it is to get Benjamin Brett's seasons of Law & Order? They're not available in some countries; the streaming seasons and the downloads. Frustrated!
I love L&O and my favorite seasons are 3-8. It’s impossible to find them streaming anywhere. I will have to buy the dvds and save them to my laptop.
It's the grossest feeling listening to her confess when I know what actually happened. I stopped the video there, but it was worth skipping ahead to Van Buran' s gut instinct kicking her detectives in the junk. I wouldn't ever agree with "believe all women" because of this episode. Some women really do manipulate the system and make all the rest of us look bad. Sorry, but it's true.
You know the percentage of women who lie is small? The vast majority is telling the truth :/
The majority are telling the truth
They make themselves look bad don’t put that on the rest of us
@@mercsaint4846 No, I don't know that the percentage who lie is small. Is there a study on this or am I just supposed to take your word for it because you're claiming to know? Honestly, Dr. House on House was correct- everybody lies. Including you.
Just because some individuals might possibly deceive the system doesn't mean we should therefore treat everyone like they're liars. The vast majority of people don't want to be the kind of jerk that does that, therefore it is far more effective to treat the report as legitimate until proven otherwise.
