As detectives Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) and Bernard (Anthony Anderson) search for the bomber, they encounter Megaphone Bob, the leader of a group of war protesters, including Charles Cavell, whose sister was killed in Iraq. This episode really focused on vigilante justice and how they not only interrupt investigations but also cause cultish stalking and assaults on those innocent or not yet found guilty
Sometimes but also they do that because there IS no investigations or justice. And some do it wrong.
oh yeah and the police never do anything like that in real life or in this show. /s
Take Stranger Things S4 as another example.
@@BillyButcher90 how exactly
@@alexbrown7708 don't forget law and order SVU
"We'll stay within the law....!"
Except you've already twice stepped outside legal boundaries and jeopardized a criminal investigation....
That is the thing with this kind of help. IF they stayed in the line, they would say why police took all the credits, and when they needed reputation and credits and fame and donation and people to gather, they would step out of the line and say hey look we single handed solved the problem and advertise.
But that is the problem, could you only provide the help that is needed, and selflessly? whenever there is self motivation, it gets ugly no matter how pure that passion of the cause was to begin with. Some even ended up to create the problem for them to solve. Like energy business like the weapon industry.
The way 'Karens' wasn't even a thing back then, but L&O somehow made it still relevant 😂😂
Karen’s have always been a thing the new thing is the colloquial term for it
"Karen" has it's origin with Dane Cook in one of his 2005 comedy skits where he is talking about a woman named Karen.
@@theiran that's a very interesting fact!
they were always a thing, they were just codified by mobile phone cameras
@@theAverageJoe25 Actually, according to wikipedia, there's been a colloquial term for it since the early 1800s, that terms just changed over the years.
This pissed me off so much. They hurt the case so much and then they had the audacity to attack someone. Ruining an investigation is not staying "within the law" absolute idiots.
S.V.U. had the same problem in season 6 episode 6 Conscience. While the squad was investigating the disappearance of a 4 year old, a vigilante group kept interfering.
it's also the fact that they are completely oblivious to the damage they did to the case
Why would the chief even agree to have them in the first place?
Also the chief lady was a karen at the too. "Durr we have good lawyer we no need to respect rights" PIG
That's why law enforcement needs to stop trust the scum of those Karens
In actuality, there are several online groups who are allowed to search paper-trail and obscure evidence for cold cases. Made up of retirees and folks who want to help find justice, they do unpaid labor sifting through old news articles, law cases, etc and report findings to the police departments. They are really helping to find answers when departments are under-funded and under-staffed. They are generally not doing leg work, but are researches only.
And so long as they don't harm anybody what is wrong with that? Both of us would usually say nothing, they can do a great job.
How does one get signed up for something like that?
@@Renagade2332 You don't need to. They're just trying to glorify being a loser club. All of this stuff is public and anyone can do it on their own at any time. If you're serious about being more than just a loser then look into being a private investigator instead. They do similar but with more skill and tend to be taken more seriously.
What are there names?
Like the Sherlock Consortium on NCIS.
I don’t think the crime group realized how much they were interfering with the investigation
Exactly! Absolutely NOTHING in the backpack can be used as evidence against its owner because those idiots took it away from him and possibly put their own items in it. Even a beginning lawyer would have a field day with those clowns. I'm surprised they don't understand "chain of evidence" rules.
@@krisaaron5771 There's that, plus, the prime suspect is now a victim of assault and robbery. I don''t think any judge would grant an indictment. So, whatever case the police had against the guy, has now been jeopardized.
@@krisaaron5771 As they're not police officers, it would be theft and an illegal search. "Fruit from the poisonous tree" as the saying goes.
Pretty sure they don't really care either.
I doubt they care about the law. Their "moral righteousness" supersedes all logic. A bunch of Karens indeed.
They're the type to call the police on a black man breaking into his own house through the front door with a key.
Open and shut case Johnson. Obviously this black guy broke in here and put up pictures of his friends and family everywhere.
A Karen is already scary, a vigilante Karen is terrifying 😂
“Nothing ever good came from not minding your own business”
There’s a BIG difference between snooping/snitching and helping a cause or concern that could put somebody’s life at risk or is illegal. These vigilante justice warriors THINK but never KNOW or have the know how to do or properly assess an investigation.
You don't ask a Karen for help they sometimes casually forget what the law is
That look Van Buren gave the women was bone chilling.
This episode was a tough one. I like that the episode keeps you guessing who the killer is. Jack has some really good lines at the end of the episode about the difference between getting justice and getting a conviction / guilty plea.
who was the killer?
@@Icecube88 The mom and the guy with the backpack both end up having access to the material which caused the explosion that killed the baby. Both deny it. They don't know each other at all and had never met so they weren't working together.
The mom seems extremely happy that she's getting so much attention and seems to not be in mourning or very upset. Alternatively, the man lied about having access to the explosive and claimed he's never been there before.
At the end Clair tells Jack he could probably convict either one but Jack says he doesn't know which one did it and he won't put a person behind bars when he could pick the wrong one and send an innocent person there.
@@josephkerrigan733 I remember seeing the entire episode, wasn't part of the reason they couldn't convict either one was because of the interference of the "vigilante" group?
@@kenbennett4556 That's the reason initially but unless I'm completely misremembering at the end Jack says he doesn't know which one it is and won't put an person he knows is innocent just to get the other person.
Later in McCoy’s office, Rubirosa thinks that after Weller finished putting Sherman ’ on trial” the jury will never convict Carly. Cutter asks for suggestions from McCoy. He picks up the phone and asks to be connected to the public information office. He speaks to someone called “Kate” and says he is going to be sending over a press release in an hour about the Army recruitment center bombing. When he hangs up the phone, he says he is sure Cutter can strip the flesh off Carly’s bones on cross, he doesn’t think they can ram a plea bargain down his throat now, he’s declining to prosecute either Derek or Carly because they can’t say which one is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Rubirosa says she can see the headlines now, “no justice for baby Mikey.” McCoy shrugs, and Cutter says, “You’re gonna take a lot of heat for this.” McCoy puts on his glasses, and says, “ I can live with that. So can you.” As Cutter and Rubirosa leave, McCoy goes back to work, and with his sigh, we fade to black.
"We'll stay within the law."
I'm astonished Karens even have the word "law" in their EXTREMELY limited vocabulary.
In my opinion I think a “Karen” is someone that thinks they know it all. Met plenty. But we are all humans with opinions, just some don’t use it the right way 🤦🏻♀️
I FoUnD a BrIcK, okay. Many people have bricks in their backyard, it could be broken, some scraps, ANYTHING.
"Quick, No one do any paving". . .I mean the guy had a stack of them, enough to make a small area around the garden when things thawed or enough for a project of some type. More than just one for a window. It's not like they sell them locally for things like building stuff. . . . . .
Anderson and Sisto, Roache, de la Garza, and Waterston got me excited about Law&Order again. That cast was good!
How many times have these vigilante types gotten it wrong and cost an innocent their liberty? Too many to justify.
These Karens claiming to "work within the law" make me sick to my stomach.
Ikr monster's
An effective way of showing how complex the law is, that well-intended "help" can hinder a professional investigation.
You didn't wanna fight Van Buren, she meant business.
"we will stay inside the law" except the muliple times where we didn't lol
"We'll stay within the law"...oh because you have done such a great job so far. Karens.
This is a good example of people that mean well but don’t know how to do it legally so they mess everything up...
The sad part is they actually did prove that they ARE capable in some capacity. The problem is that they wouldn't recognize their own limits. Either in regards to competency or legality.
Nice
I gotta go watch this episode
Militant wives/moms. Sounds absolutely terrifying.
I would love to watch the full episode
So what's the spoiler recap of what happens in this episode?
Karen’s have been a thing since the dawn or time there’s always one.
I can't stand people like those two women 😖
Hats off to the actors and scriptwriter, they really made them hateable.
they should be stomped out over an over again. people like that deserve far worst
Everybody wants some form of justice done to wrong tours but what those women were doing ugh none of them are even properly trained for investigation since they’re not specialized in any form of Law enforcements and it’s further hindering the case.
He's got bricks back there!
I'm not the only one who got chills from the title of the clip, am I? 😰
No one $&@?s with Lt. Van Buren!
I like her response. Definitely don’t mess with her.

They always take it too far, beyond the research steps. Beyond the law.

I honestly feel really really bad for that guy I didn't watch the entire episode so this was just my first guest when I first saw this either he didn't know there was a baby in there or he did know either way I just feel really bad for him I know what he did was awful and really messed up but the same time I feel bad for him....
Wasn't one of the chick's in the thumbnail Renee Zellweger?
@4:00 *NOT!*
What episode was this?
Because he was just arrested, if he didnt do it (i havent watched this episode) would he have to tick the box on job applications or applications for anything that 'yes i have been arrested'?? Does this give him a record? Because if it does either of those and bes jnnocent, they just ruined his life.
This is why i hate how these shoes have them arresting people all over the place and then letting them go a fee hours later the mpment their alibi checks out, or they cant find any more evidence linking them to the crime.
There will be a record of arrest, but I think most job applications ask if people have been convicted, not just arrested. The current status/disposition of the case is what will show up on a background check.
Season and episode
Which episode and season is this?
Season 13 episode 19 it's in the description.
So who's the guilty party in this episode?
No clue, since people kept interfering the case, acting like good guys, tainting evidence and messing with suspects
The episode leaves it unclear.
The Karens
Sometimes we need a dark knight :)
More like the crazy Karen’s
for a second, I thought van buuren got a heavy case of dandruff, lmao.....
These people dont troll right. They should have gotten someone to get a job as a trash collector to search the cand.
when a cop says they’re going to retire, this is what they switch up too.

Who was the real killer in the end?

It was me Barry
Okay, but did he actually do it or not???

Was the result that the suspect was guilty of bombing, but he couldn't be prosecuted due to circumstantial and tainted evidence by these online vigilantes?
They were unsure of who it was so they didn't prosecute anyone.

The Karen Squad (aka The Mollys) could have been helpful had they turned what they had found over to the police. Their biggest mistake was from moving from very cold cases, where they could do minimal damage as the investigations were DOA anyway, to current investigations, but a dead baby overwhelmed them.
I’m positive they were trying to do the right thing, and I don’t believe they planted butane in their backpack, but in their custody did taint the evidence. HOWEVER, had the police searched their van right away and found no source of butane (remember they couldn’t go anywhere without car keys), that would have untainted it to me.
I don’t see how them holding one brick could taint the entire pile of hundreds, although that’s a pretty minor piece of evidence as many people do have stuff like that. Still it is a link.
I get the police side of the trash. Yes they should have waited til it was out on the curb, and even then, called the police.
It’s inexcusable that the backpack incident happened after the trash/brick incident, though I do wonder why the police didn’t subpoena his backpack before the second incident.
The most unrealistic thing about this show is that EVERY defense attorney is brilliant, and that is probably much rarer in real life.
If that guy did it, he will have to live with the death of that baby. I honestly don’t expect him to survive the guilt for very long, after losing his sister right before that. He will eat a gun within a year.
Vigilante Karens in the US, probably one of the most sinister things around for innocence blacks and hispanics.
Taking into account the argument of how detectives Lupo and Bernard react to the help of vigilantes or crimebusters, I came up with a very interesting hypothetical question: what would happen if a Shinigami drops his Death Note in the world of Law and Order? ? I know that Death Note and Law and Order are two series with different plots or arguments, but since both are fiction, I can not only use my question validly but also give rise to various theories of how the hypothetical plot would unfold.
Personally, I think that if this hypothetical crossover were to happen, we would see how the entire New York police department would have to use their ingenuity not only to discover what is killing the criminals in their world, but also to discover Kira's whereabouts without running the risk of him killing them. Remember that L would not exist in this fictional universe, making the task of detectives more difficult. I'm more than sure it would be a great episode
That is an excellent concept.
Another problem would be how the DA's office would prosecute Light (if he was in New York) The only solid evidence they would have is the notebook, and they would have to convince a jury that it kills whoever's name is written in it. Both Light's defense attorney and the judge would REFUSE to allow the prosecution to test it on someone - even on an inmate on Death Row, and especially on Light himself. If the DA is satisfied with just the "Touch the notebook and you'll see the Shinigami" trick to prove its magical properties, the jury would either say:
* "Someone laced this notebook with hallucinogens."
* "So I can see the freaky dude stealing the apples. That doesn't necessarily mean it has magical killing powers." (since the judge won't allow testing).
Even if the jury is convinced that the notebook's power is real, Light would have anticipated that by having Ryuk write the "13-day rule" in the back. Since New York doesn't have the death penalty (now), they won't find anyone to test it on - either as the writer or the target. Knowing Light, he may also have criminals die for a while after the time of his arrest. Once the heart attacks stop for longer than 13 days, the defense could argue that "Since Light's still alive 13 days later, he's not Kira or else he would be dead by now."
Of course, some random guy who lost a friend/relative to Kira (criminal or not) could track down Light and just shoot him outside of the courthouse - conviction or not. It is New York City, after all, and the case would undoubtedly be front-page news for weeks.
I'd watch that anime.
@@red_five3325 There's probably a fanfic out there with that plot. 😂

Sometimes vigilantism is needed
Not here, it's not. The ONLY time what these idiots were doing could have counted for anything I'd if they'd caught the perp figuratively red - handed. All they did was hamstring the investigation at every turn and taint any evidence that could've been used in court.
It's justified.
In this case, it did more harm than good. The poor little baby will never get any justice because these meddling Karens wouldn't let the police do their job the legal way.
