@@kristianvandehei8757 hit him in the lower part of his mask but also on his chest so yeah, it probably did a little more than just knocked the wind out of him probably almost struck near the wind pipe
My favorite part of these is how much the players care and worry for the Ump's. Obviously players and Ump's have their issues but when it comes down to it these guys do worry for each other. Love this sport.
I have been an umpire in state level games when a fast ball that was never touched by glove or bat smacked me flat into the mask right between the eyes. Knocked the mask clean off my head behind me. What saved me from feeling it was the fact that i dont have the mask too tightly on my head (to better be able to remove it for fly balls) and so the ball's speed was deflected upwards along with the movement of the mask. The pain is DAMNED painful when it hits your arm, wrist, hand, box (between your legs) and the absolute damned WORST is when it hits you right on the centre of your foot square on. No matter how much protection you have, you can STILL get hurt.
Video is superb Bronx, I don't watch a lot of baseball anymore, but the length of each segment and the quality is really good, great job on the video !
I really love how players can appear to hate some umpires during a heated game when arguing calls etc.. But they show so much concern and respect when they are injured.
The pitches that got straight through or were very slightly misdirected looked the worst. Imagine getting hit with an 85 mph bullet like that. Great collection BronxBomber. Thank you!
The unluckiest one was the one who died at a Reds game about 20 years ago. Anyone remember that? He wasn't hit by any pitches, he had a heart attack or something. I remember they postponed the game, and Marge Schott had a hissy fit.
+robapple78 She used to take her dog to games and let him out on the field during BP and he'd take dumps all over the place. The players of course complained, but she didn't - wait for it - give a crap!
It’s great to see professional athletes look out for one another even though there are some out there that absolutely can’t stand one another I think it’s just amazing the batters stand there to make sure the ump is alright
I'd have to say, it was kinda cool seeing the catchers and batters reacting very passionately to the umpires getting hit. I don't know why that surprised me so much.
So many of these clips were so nasty I wasn't sure I could hit the like button but who can deny another great collection of clips from BronxBomber42. I liked it.
Catchers always seem the most concerned about the wellbeing of the umpires, batters and pitchers. When someone gets hit, usually they're the first to check to see if they're OK. 👍
I have umpired at all but the elite levels for 30 years. I will testify that these shots are incredibly painful. I've had many people ask if we can even feel the impact because of the equipment we wear... the answer is "Hell, YES!" There is still a lot of exposed area's of the body, and we rely heavily on the catchers set up for protection. Foul tips are uncontrollable, but when the pitcher crosses up the catcher and they totally whiff, those 80-90 mph balls hurt like hell. The direct impact is blunted, and spread over a very small surface area. While the gear saves us from serious injury and death, the pain is very real. I have been knocked out of both men's and woman's games at most every level. Even a 10U girls softball game once...those are the worst. Some of those little girls can really wing it, and the catchers ability isn't usually up to par.
Purple Hearts are awarded for wounds, Silver & Bronze Stars for bravery and various awards for excellence. These guys ought to get something. Maybe gold & silver plated face masks. Titanium jock strap cups. A 95 MPH fast ball in wherever! I hope they at least get paid well.
I remember during the early 90s. There was a catcher who misinterpreted a signal from the pitcher and thought it was a pitchout. The pitcher threw a fastball right down Broadway and hit the ump right in the nuts after the catcher jumped out.
I remember when I saw your vids when you were around 5k subs. So glad you made it this far because you deserve it. Thanks for bringing us amazing vids. Keep up the amazing work.
+Mike Vincent Works both ways, when a catcher gets a stinger, the umpire calls TIME asks the catcher if he is OK dusts off the plate and gives the catcher some time to suck up his wound.
You just got 70,000 now thanks to me. Your content is good! I love baseball, especially reds baseball. I do have one request, put more reds videos in please.
It makes me feel good that most of the players immediately check to see if the ump is alright. Especially when they stay with them until medical arrives. It shows a mutual respect between players and umps.
I have to admit that i chuckled a few times, just because it's crazy. Feel bad for the umpires. Kinda surprised they are not wearing shin pads like the catchers, or have some kind of shield they can hold, especially when the catcher is no longer lined up in front of them.
I'm not sure how I got to this video but it makes me feel two things simultaneously. First I feel bad for these guys and two I feel an odd sense of joy every time one gets drilled. Especially the guy at 6:30, 'HAGmmm ball four'
I'm an umpire myself, we get hit hard by foul balls, passed balls and wild pitches, we go through alot, lower back, knees, ankles and cracked bone pain, we still standing guys.
"That's ball 4!"
What a trooper.
Sounded like it took the wind outta him
@@kristianvandehei8757 hit him in the lower part of his mask but also on his chest so yeah, it probably did a little more than just knocked the wind out of him probably almost struck near the wind pipe
Just after muttering "aw, fuck".
DAMN! Dude gets throat punched by a 96 mph fastball has still has the wherewithal to call ball 4. What a pro!!!
Was thinking the same. Couldn't be more unruffled!
I think it lost most of its speed but damn I feel bad except for those asshole umpires
Plot twist: pitchers are always aiming for the umpire... but the hitter and catcher stop him.
I would most definitely but if I was batting I would aim for their heads
: this is what cricket is about
@@calripken2480 its abit late, but well........aim for the balls @_@
I love how caring some of the catchers are
Because they get hit alot, too. "I feel your pain, bro!"
isnt it also, lol cos i didnt catch the ball u got hit, so the obvious reaction would be to check up on the person u indirectly caused injury to lol
Disclaimer: Only 16 umpires were harmed during the making of this video.
love your channel 😀
Ur vids r amazing! I love them!

THE MAN, THE MYTH, THE LEGEND
Y don't u upload any more
Can we all take a second to remember Umpire's are people at the end of the day? Even Angel Hernandez.
Don't get to follow baseball much, but I would have never thought about umpires dealing with hits like these. Hats off to them.
Greg Gibson, the home plate umpire, motioning to the ground

I love CZcams, back in the 90's you have to pay 20 bucks for a sports-injury Video, now you can watch these for free.

Wouldn't heavier masks provide more protection? Simple physics, yes?
3:00 "do a barrel roll"
lol
He had to if he put pressure on his knee it could hurt him
2:32 Greg gibson, the homeplate umpire. Motioning to.... Nevermind
Damn, figured someone beat me to it.
Dang, if Greg Gibson injured his hand he won't be able to motion to both sides.
I was waiting for one of these
*Lol best comment here*
Did you know Joe Gibson?

2:32 now how will he motion to both players?...a true legend has died today folks...
The Dodgers wont be celebrating in their dugout
Gibsons like. "Ugghhhhhh!!" Then the catcher's like "Holy CRAP I don't want NOTHIN to do with that

As always, thanks for not adding stupid music during the video and letting us actually listen to the announcers/game. That last one, ouch!
after seeing this, i think all umps should be wearing a full suit of armor
They are except for the arms and legs but they are
"That's ball four" LOL

What a trooper. Calls the ball 4, walks it off, and comes back in.
The one that got hurt on knee cap ,dude it's the killing one I've suffered from that .
It really hurts a lot.🥵🥵
3:50 "turf" lmao
The ball that hit he umps leg definitely hurt bad!!
I like that fact that the catchers usually help it’s like they understand
4:58 an umpire's first instinct to catch it with his hands and not his neck, nice reflexes

Jeff Swanson I think it was a spring trading game.
Cindy Brooks Nope. Seven pitches into the first game of the season, home plate umpire John McSherry collapsed and was dead within the hour.
They never over react
Stay calm after been hit
I can't be like that...
I just scream the shit out
Grrrrrr ball four!!!THIS OL GEEZER IS TUFFER THAN A BOLT

So many of these clips were so nasty I wasn't sure I could hit the like button but who can deny another great collection of clips from BronxBomber42. I liked it.
Never gotten so much happiness from a video
3:45 toughest nigga out there
If only Joe West would take a line drive to his skull.
Herman Melville That’s pretty harsh to wish physical harm on someone, even though his umpiring may be questionable at times. Karma can be a bitch.
5:11 I love to old Marlins fan in the background. He just gets up and points
Catchers always seem the most concerned about the wellbeing of the umpires, batters and pitchers. When someone gets hit, usually they're the first to check to see if they're OK. 👍
Too bad we can't choose Which umpires get hit..
one time when I went to a game I shoved a girl down for a foul

I feel horrible or saying this but that umpire at 6:25 made me laugh so hard. Good man
Is it just me or are some of these reactions funny as hell

I love Keith's reaction at 3:25
The one to the forearm takes the cake! The knee hit also good, but I think the umpire exaggerated a bit
Great complication man I love how you want from pitches to off the bats and so on. Great quality to

3:23 See how the umpire goes nuts...
GET IT CORAL??? NUTS!!!
After that injury Greg Gibson, the home plate umpire, continues to motion to both players.
in the last part when the umpire gets hit by a flying bat, it has the phrase "I'm loving it" at bottom left.

It makes me feel good that most of the players immediately check to see if the ump is alright. Especially when they stay with them until medical arrives. It shows a mutual respect between players and umps.
