    I understood the argument against instant replay which suggested that over the course of a season the bad calls would all even out across all teams. That's a fair argument.
    However, now that we can actually see how many calls are missed by the umpires (for any of a variety of reasons), it becomes apparent that the only fair thing to do is review close plays in order to get it right. This is especially true in meaningful games where a blown call can have long-term consequences.
    Umpires are only human and they make mistakes. However, if the technology exists to correct those mistakes, then that technology should be used to its fullest so that the calls are made correctly as often as possible.

    Reason for some bad calls is 1st base ump determines swing that he can't possibly see from that angle. The proof is always side camera angle which should be reviewable.

    I wouldn't call these "Worst calls" these are expected since everyone is human and we only have 2 eyes. It's definitely a great video to show WHY we need the instant replay system to overturn these calls.
    I know it's hard for people to see something from a certain point of view, like how we have a MUCH wider and lengthier view sight of where the ball is in play, especially Americans (and especially ESPECIALLY American sports fans lol) but remember anyone/everyone in their position would have made calls like this at times...no one is perfect and I highly doubt the 5ft 7 angry guy mad that his favorite team lost a game or 2 to bad umpire call(s) would make the correct call in their position.
    Side note: Angel Hernandez and the other 2 bottom 3 umpires in accuracy (both home and field calls) should be banned....they legitimately are horrible and have such an ego.

    Umpires will occasionally make mistakes but there is no excuse for the other umpires to not do anything about a bad call. Every umpire is allowed to discuss or question a call and the plate umpire can overturn any call. So many bad calls are never changed because of their egos. Thank God for replay because umpires mistakes are influencing the results of the game. Its a shame that they are still ruining the game with their terrible strike zones. Also, only MLB would make a rule that says you cant argue about the strike zone no matter how bad it may be. Another MLB shooting themselves in the foot.

    As a little league and senior league umpire, a lot of these seem like obvious calls on television, but aren't from the umpire's perspective. 4:10 Is a perfect example. It was a bang-bang play which occurred mostly out of view of the umpire.
    Also, those foul tips/dropped third strike are usually not visible to the umpire at all, unless the pitch is far out of the zone. You have to rely solely on auditory cues. Say what you want about some of these calls, but I think umpires get too much crap for making a mistakes every now and then.

It doesn't all of the sudden stop with the money. There are plays where you have to depend on split-second judgement, like a tag on the feet, and whether the runner is safe or not with the hands. It's next to impossible to look at both at the same time. Sometimes, the tags are so subtle that you can miss them entirely.

      @@dewey_meister95m20 At the end of the day, they are still human, and will make mistakes. Since umpires statistically perform above 99% correct, the video would be nearly 15 hours long. Are you only happy with umpires that make close calls correctly for your favorite team?
      Tell you what...tell me your favorite team and I will find you a video of an umpire calling a close play in favor of that team that will include a short delay while the other team looks at the video and ultimately decides the umpire was right. The prize is $1000 to the winner and the loser deletes his account. Ready to play?

    • @ToadHallPub
      @ToadHallPub Před 10 měsíci

      What part of this video is about egos? I see umpires making close calls that were incorrect. Several of them show the call being reversed by replay. Procedure dictates the umpire that made the incorrect call signal the reversal himself rather than another member of his crew. Ultimately, umpires want to get the call correct, which is why they chose the profession. Over half of reviewed calls are upheld. But what is more relevant is that there are so many more close plays that the teams are allowed to view via video replay that they choose not to challenge because when seen on super slo-mo replay, they themselves determine the call was, in fact, correct. Are you actually convinced that someday there will be a Roomba that will scurry out to the ivy at Wrigley and determine whether a ball is stuck for a ground rule double? Are you certain there there will be an automated system that will 100% determine whether or not a Jeffery Maier or Steve Bartman actually interfered with a live ball? What system do you predict will determine what is or is not an infield fly? What sentient robot can accurately award bases for obstruction to your complete satisfaction? If you can't answer these questions, you have no idea what you're blathering about. Enjoy the game for what it is. If you think you could improve the game, put on a mask and call a game. There is a shortage of youth officials that threatens the livelihood of the sport. Be a hero.

    This is why there is a shortage of umpires at youth league levels. Any jagoff can post a compilation of missed calls, even if, in order to fill some minutes, they include clips from the past DECADE. Factually, MLB umpires perform over 99% correct. Several clips in this propaganda actually show the umps correcting missed calls with replay. After all, that's what replay is for and no umps are against it. Yet overzealous parents will watch this and arm themselves with the courage to yell at an amateur umpire the next time a close call doesn't go the way for their child who has less percentage chance of making the big than that of MLB umpire accuracy. They will pounce on an amateur umpire, making very little money, for their perceived stolen glory. That umpire may eventually say, "this isn't worth it" and now you've lost one more person who had enough passion for the game to take the time and effort to officiate them. For every missed call in MLB, there are 3 to 1 more consequential errors by players. If you think it's easy, join your local umpire's association and start calling games yourself. If you can umpire a season without ever replaying a close play and doubting yourself, go to professional umpire school and work your way into the bigs. The pay and benefits are outstanding because you will have achieved the highest level of your profession by proving yourself through years of thankless hard work. If you're not willing to do that, STFU and have a nice day

    8:15 I'm sorry but this call is not exactly a bad call. The reasoning was wrong, but the call was right. Lead runner slides behind 3rd base while the trailing runner is on third. This means the trailing was ahead of the lead runner. By rule, the man on third is out. Then the lead runner was simply tagged out. That's a correct double play.
