- I've visited forty Greek islands over the past thirty-three years, since I first started traveling in 1990. In this video I list them all, while giving a tour of Spetses, my fortieth Greek island.

Gabriel is becoming a legend. Never seen a guy so dedicated to this nomadic traveling lifestyle. 👍
Hey Gabriel, you are almost Greek. You can read the alphabet. You seem to have walked into a spider convention. Thanks for all your work that you do for us. Take care my friend.
WOW Gabe 40 and counting I have been to 11 and visited Greece 5 times in lifetime.......will be going again in 2024 for 3 months
I’ve been to over 30 I haven’t done Lesvos , Naxos, Thassos, Spetses but I have seen a lot of the mainland
The Greek territory includes 6,000 islands and islets. They are scattered in the Aegean and the Ionian Sea. Of these only 227 are inhabited, you still have to go to 187.....be patient
Exactly. Patient and persistent.
Knowning Gabe’s love for Greece it’s probably a mission of his to visit every Greek island. I’m sure he’d also like to explore more of the mainland too. He mentioned the Peloponnese coastline a few days ago.
I would not use the word ''only'' for some 227 different towns basically scattered here and there in the sea means a life time for most people to explore! Greece although a mid sized European country feels much much larger and takes time and effort to travel to hundreds of places around.
Santorini in 2021 got me hooked, can't wait to get back and check out some other islands. Greece has the best overall package of any destination IMO - weather, culture & lifestyle, food, prices, etc. Can't beat it.
Exactly
What about Thailand?
@@robcanad good point, it’s close! I think I would still go Greece because the weather is a bit more tolerable in the summer (less unbearably humid) and easier/quicker to visit from the US. Both are hard to beat though.
@@robcanad night life, ancient monuments, local lifestyle, food and sweets, diffrent landscape, safety, come on man
You are so right❤
You need to go to Limnos and Lesvos
That’s all new pine forest growing back after wildfire- thankfully the regeneration seems healthy.
Oh my gosh, i'm Greek and i've only gone to ...10 !!! wow Gabe you nailed it !!! 😊✌💜
Gabe loves Greece! I hope to go next year!
@@Nature_with_Peter_Kane you'll be most welcome !! 👏✌
Spider was like 'damn it... must build bigger web ' 😄
Hahaha! Good one
The reason why Gabriel Traveler is my favorite CZcamsr is because he simply do no act to look better, totally no egocentric person despite he is very successful in his field, not try to show women or girls for the thumbnail as many other does (including me 😂), he simply be himself without any filters and that’s why with Indigo Traveller they are the best travel bloggers
Happy 40th Gabe🎂
Same age as you 👍🤣🇬🇷

@jokivitch He looks great!
You look like garbage, Im sure about that!!!! 😃👍🏻
Thankyou Gabe for this lovely vlog, I've got some catching up to do, only been to five. I plan to visit Corfu. Enjoy your travels, really enjoy watching your Greek travels, my wife gets the popcorn out and we watch.
Nobody does it better! Thank you and be safe.
Thank you, your videos are always appreciated
Wow! 40 islands! 🏝🏝*LEGEND*🏝🏝 I love when you share pictures or videos of your previous trips!
Wowza would be cool to hear your recommendations for which islands to visit depending on what youre looking for sometime
Such a great list! To add to those numbers, Lemnos - Lesvos - Chios would be a great route!
I've only seen 6 islands so far, but hoping to see lots more this year as I'll have at least a month in Greece, after France & Italy.
Now that’s more my style, riding a Wild Hog of a scooter lol on a Greek island 😂👍 Impressive island list Gabe, your bucket list is to do all of them in your travels 😄 well the inhabited ones at least.
Gabe I already found you a 'Superman'. I didn't know you were Spiderman too🤣
Make a longer Crete visit, huge island
Greece 🌅 Dear friend you are an amazing traveler 💯👍
My aunties on holidays in Mykonos at the moment. Looks like Greece is on my list. Looks like not many tourists probably vadvthe European schools holidays haven't started as yet.
Im Greek, been going to Greece every year most my life and Ive only been to 15 islands. Congratulations
Hi Gabe, thank you for sharing nice video. We are waiting next adventure. Chaos
Impressive!
Learning Greek! 😊 For all nouns that in -s: the -s is dropped if it's not the main subject of a sentence. This involves all masculine nouns, and some irregular feminine nouns (feminine nous normally end in in -a or -ē/i, but all those islands that and in -s are actually feminine nouns). So, "Paros is a nice island" but "We're going to Paro for the summer" or "This way towards Paro".
The linguistic concept is called noun cases or grammatical cases, which also exists in German, Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, and a few other languages. English has a tiny bit of it too. When you add 's to a noun to make it possessive, you're changing the spelling/pronunciation of the noun, and that's called the genitive case. Also, in pronouns:"We went to the store" but "the ice cream is for us". "We" changes to "us".
Amazing
I loved Santorini
I am counting 26 islands at my 35years of age💪💪💪
Not bad. 👍👊
If you were to live on a Greek island which one would you choose?
Crete,Rhodes, Corfu those have all the services and a life if not better but on the same level as the mainland.
@@Gk-ug6gu Thanks that's confirmed my thoughts on the choices.
Keep in mind that Lefkada (Ionian sea) is an excellent (large) island and you don't need ....a ferry/boat...
Bravo again for the 40 islands Gabe! 👏
Na ta Hiliaseis!!! May you Reach a Thousand my friend 🇬🇷💙👍🏻
Hi Gabriel! The names of the islands, as is the case with all nouns in Greek change according to the 4 grammatical cases we find in Greek as follows:
Nominative: i Paros
Genitive: tis Parou
Accusative: tin Paro
Vocative: Paro
I hope this helps! Enjoy your stay in Greece. Wish I could make it this year…
Hi Gabriel, Greece gets its own portfolio it never gets old. Did you get dual citizenship yet? Of course, many viewers want to know which island is your favorite? I'm guessing you're still in the processing phase. These last two islands are nice and quiet but still enjoyable with many different areas to enjoy, this is especially true on Spetses.
Wow that spot at 17:15 looks like promising camping territory WOW!!
That spider was probably a European garden spider. I almost walked in to one of those on Skopelos last year..
Yes, I think the same. We call them "korsspindlar" i swedish, "cross-spider". They are not really dangerous.
Stunning photos!
Great video and recap of all the islands!! Let's go for the big 5 - 0 !! haha Cheers!
I was in Athens Greece in 2022, went on a day trip small cruise boat to 3 Greek Islands, Poros, Hydra and Aegina
Me too. Those are magnificent islands. 😍🇬🇷
😅 watch out for those🕷🕸 Gabriel! Interesting! 😎☀️🌊
Amazing video! Thank you for the full list. I loved your notes in the end! That was a lot of spiders... Since you are that close to Peloponnese (Peloponnese means the island of Pelops...that could count as an island 😅) would be a Great opportunity to take a tour around Peloponnese and Visit: 1)Mani 2)Sparta, yes that sparta 😊 3)Monemvasia 4) Epidaurus 5)Olympia and two Islands close to the south tips of Peloponnese Cythera and Antikithira
Gabriel, nice content mate. Try Folegandros island in Greece in case you haven't so far. As Greek this is by far the most impressive to my opinion.
Thanks, planning to go there.
I miss traveling. For the past 2 years all I do I stay in our house & take walks around our neighborhood. Thank you for posting these! ❤
40 islands Is like 40 cities. Most people haven't visited 40 cities in their own country.
If you live in a country with 40 cities😂
@@baggy79 we have 40 cities in australia but most of them arent worth visiting
@@johnschannel449 we have 52 in England. The officials like to name places 'cities' because they think it makes them more prosperous and cool. Most of them are just 'towns' really and many of them are not worth visiting either 🤣
That would be a waste of time. Most places are not worth visiting.
Hahaha that Spider man 🕷follow you all the time bro 😆🤣Love the video 👍Thanks for sharing and stay safe 🤣Cheers 🥂
Hi Gabriel, Im wondering from the 40 Greek Islands you have now visited, do you have a favorite island?
The next island you should definitely visit is.....
ELAFONISOS!! Simos beach my man you will freak out!
Yes! He will Love Elafonissos! 💯👍🏻
Go to Thassos Island!🤗
Stunning 🤩
You miss Lefkada island in Ionian Sea (must see) and some northern Aegean islands like Thasos, Lesvos, Chios
Samothraki also
Always love a Gabriel story! WOW! So impressed you have retained so many travels. I forget what I had for dinner 3 days ago😂😂! Thanks Gabriel excellent explore. ~Cara
Great series
1. Corfu, 2. Paxoi, 3. Lefkada, 4. Kefalonia, 5. Ithaki, 6. Zakynthos, 7. Kythira, 8. Spetses, 9. Ydra, 10. Poros, 11. Angistri, 12. Aegina 13. Salamina ^, 14. Evoia ^^, 15. Kea, 16. Andros, 17. Syros, 18. Paros, 19. Naxos, 20. Santorini, 21. Crete, 22. Rhodes, 23. Kos, 24. Symi, 25. Nysiros, 26. Chios, 27. Thassos, 28. Ikaria, 29. Trizonia ^^^
^ I was going to Salamina everyday for 7 months during my military service. I got off from the ferry, went to the place I did my service then back to the ferry. In 7 months I haven't seen anything from the island, outside the naval base. Allegedly there isn't anything to see 😂
^^ I don't know if you can call Evoia an island, I guess typically it is.
^^^ I went to Trizonia on a day trip from Nafpaktos. It is a very small island off the coast of Fokida, I think it is uninhabited but since it has a name I guess it counts.
So, you have been to 11 more islands than me, and I'm greek!
Islands I want to go: Milos, Kythnos, Sifnos, Serifos, Lesvos, Limnos and many more. Sadly for us greeks it is becoming increasingly expensive to go to an island during peak season, especially if you have a family. Ferry tickets are very costly (because we usually take our cars with us), and prices for renting a car have skyrocketed. All the islands I have visited last year were close to the mainaland (Kythira, Thassos, Ithaki, Kea). It's much easier for us to go somewhere in the mainland.
Islands I advise you to visit next: Poros (already talked about that), Kythira (you will love it there), Lefkada (most beautiful beaches in Greece imo), Chios (you will also love it there, many things to see, not many tourists)
It comes down to personal preference. For me Ikaria is no.1 and for you no.28 :)
@@naevan1 I just wrote them as I remembered them, nothing to do with preference 😁
@@TassosFragou α συγγνώμη 😅
English has case on pronouns - he/his/him, she/hers/her, you/yours/your, etc.
and we mostly rely on prepositions in place of case like, we will be arriving *at* Naxos. In Modern Greek, that would take the accusative case, Naxo, which drops the s and I believe would also take the preposition, sti. I would be interested if you notice that preposition the next time you hear an -s island announced. It may be regional. I don’t know.
Wow. I haven’t studied Modern Greek since I was a teen 45 years ago. That was fun!
So Gab you are motoring, filming and chat recording at the same time? whoa!! impressive but be careful traffic policeman :)
I see alot of fishing boats docked on the greek islands in your videos but doo they have farms on any of those islands... The terrain on alot of the seem very rocky and coarse. I assumed they get the majority of the foods imported from the mainland.
Quality not quantity my son.... :)
Please don't go to Sifnos, or if you do let's keep it our secret
thanks for all the content
Too late, lovely island, I doubt I ruined it: czcams.com/video/ADs3gCrTHDA/video.html
Good morning from Arizona. 8 AM
First!! I think haha...Cheers from Canada Gabe!
Yep, got it, congrats.
You going through your list reminded me of The Elements song by Tom Lehrer.
LOL, the true spirit of wanderlust, Gabriel! I love those lists too, One for the countries, one for the Greek islands and one for languages (19, 31 and 8 respectively) ...and a long list of places to go (and languages to learn). Not been anywhere in Africa yet. Not even been to any of the Dodecanese islands yet! The photography looks great, SLR? Loved your explanation of the use of cases in the Greek language, short and to the point! Fun fact: The greek letter Λ and the L are the exact same letter, only different orientation of the point! It used to be much of a muchness a long time ago (before the standardisation of 403 B.C.) and in different areas a different orientation prevailed.
the alteration in noun endings in Greek is called declension, we still have remnants of it is English, actor/actress, he/her, etc. Names like Paros are the basic 'nominative' form, so in a sentence which in Greek says 'The island is Paros', the form would be 'Paros'. In a sentence where the reference means 'to Paros/on Paros/for Paros' it comes out as 'Paro'.
Verbs in Greek also change their ending by grammatical parts, this is called conjugation, we still have remnants of this in English (which is based on Germanic/Anglo-Saxon roots), eg, I work, you work, he works.
Declension and conjugation together are known as inflection. Most languages are heavily inflected, all languages based on Latin (Italian, Portugese, Spanish, French, Romanian, etc) being so.
Ahh, clear as mud......
Apart from nominative and accusative cases it's getting more weird with the genitive case, which shows ownership. So you might say Paros is nice, I love Paro and I also love the beaches of Parou.
@@athener66 ah yes, it was so much more fun in classical Greek with the dative
I still to this day do not understand how your videos do not get more views. You are one of the most traveled people I have ever seen and are a constant inspiration for my life. Genuinely I can not express my gratitude for your channel. 40 greek islands is crazy, more than 99% will do in their lifetime. Would absolutely love to meet you someday, and I believe you will be the first I ever sign up to use Patreon for.
if you include POROS you will reach 41, nice town ,some nice beaches
You could buy a property there to use it as a travel base and to leave things between trips. Prices have gone down a lot in Greece.
That's a great idea! He would prob retire in Greece too! lol
He mentioned this on a previous video. Would get too expensive buying or renting a place and then go travelling on top.
@@Nature_with_Peter_Kane Not any more they have rebound 50% of their average price since the 10 year long crisis. Prices have increased at least 30% in the last 2 years. Opportunities no more!
@@NickZaharakisChiefOfficer That's too bad for investors...but in a way it shows that Greece's economy is doing better!
great video thanks so much , saludos
Your Greek travels gave me the inspiration to visit Cyclades Islands from 2015, thank you! I want to ask a question: I lived in Formentera and it was an obsession that I managed to overcome discovering Greece, what is your feeling about Formentera now that you've been there?
I can't believe you haven't been yet to the lesser Cyclades and Folegandros!
I had a holiday in Spetses once, nice place but would be 10x better if they would ban all the mopeds, the noise could get on your nerves sometimes
Hey Gab that is a nice bicycle you've got there. Man don't do the UNTHINKABLE and sell it or just abandon it. Post it out to Eric your friend in Salem and save it for your adventures in America or for a future Greece Island hopping. In America you could put your bike in your car and take it on trips with you. Your bike could just be your new Icon just like your car.
I am surprised you haven't been to lefkada yet
Great!
Great video as always. We have been going to Greece since 1989 .Corfu was our first island and my first time abroad,I was hooked on Greece .As others have suggested Lesvos ,have been 4 times .
Gabriel, you will be amazed by Lefkada, the most stunning water color and scenery. It`s like Myrtos beach on Kefalonia, but more of such amazingly blue beaches (the whole west coast of the island).
Great videos.
12:30 Love that you've been to so many islands. I wonder what 50 will be - Lesvos? Samothraki? Regarding Greek vs. English, there a few examples in English where we get comparable noun declensions - namely, the English pronouns. We use WHO when WHO is the main subject of the sentence, but WHOM when WHO is the direct or indict object. Same with I/me/my, he/him/his, she/her...
Thanks for the amazing videos! Enjoy your journey to the Greek Islands ,Spetses is beautiful ! Peloponnese side you can see my grandparents village Pera Melana !
Not bad. I have been to all the islands though. 6000 islands. Good luck bro!
great experience
Wow, I am 8 episodes behind....
Thank you Gabriel...
Nice video 🔥
Wow your memory is great eh, I'm very impressed👍
You must go to Lemnos. Amazing island with lots of history
Athos would be an experience as well..
It looks spectacular, will definitely consider it.
Now you can do a video of your favorite top 10.
Lucky Gabriel.
Travelling the whole world and I got stuck with 9 to 5 sht****.
Hi Gabriel, the next time in Mykanos you might want to catch a ferry to Delos, a very historically significant city of the ancient world. One year ago my wife and I were in Hydra for four days and Spetses for just a day trip. In Hydra I hiked up to the Monastery of Prophet Elias, which was quite difficult, almost the highest spot on the island. The monastery and grounds were so beautiful and so worth the effort to get there. Also some monks there who scurry away from view when they think you see them. We ate at that same beach restaurant you ate at in Spetses. Beautiful place, but I actually got stung by a jellfish on that beach. Safe travels!
Wow,as a Greek that's quite admirable I haven't even been to all those islands.
My Greek yiayia( grandmother) who loved travelling said if you go first time to Greece islands travelling you would always want to return to islands often
Oh man, Greece should give you citizenship 🇬🇷😄 I’ve only done ten. Forty is seriously impressive 🙌🏻
You don’t know what you are missing if you don’t visit Tinos island
I"m sure it's on his list now! haha
Very nice. Would like to see the countries too
Gabriel I recommend Samothraki...you will be amazed by the wild beauty of this island. Do not miss the rivers and do treck them up to the last waterfall...You have to fly to Alexandroupoli, then get to the port by bus and catch a ferry for the island. (you have to get down in town and walk a bit, bus doesn't drop you right at the port I think)
That was interesting # of islands. I know spiders have a purpose but, I have been through large spider web not seeing it.😮 after you saw the second one I would have high-tailed out of there., probably running.😂 Nice video.❤
That was a juicy spider
That's diner right there as per the World Economic Forum.
@@somejohndoe3004 Yep!! Pretty sad!!
Charlotte’s web in the Greek island hills. That spider was pumped
Great
In the end it is easier to count the islands you not visited yet 😁
You heve bean much more islands Gabriel from any one Greek person. Thank you love Greece
Hi Gabriel I'm really enjoying your latest videos from the greek islands I have been following you for some time on your travelings around the world. I'm thinking about going to Greece in mid September besides Athens which 2-3 islands would you recommend for a first time visit. Thank you keep on traveling.....
Mid September is the perfect time. You could check out Santorini, Paros and Naxos since they're near each other.
