    What a totally beautiful island. How can anyone compare overcrowded cosmopolitan cities, with overpriced shops and traffic pollution, to this islands natural beauty along with the gorgeous blue and white buildings, churches and Greek paving. Thank you for filming and showing it. Wonderful. 🙂

    Gabriel try not to rent these quads; simply put they are dangerous. I have almost every summer always provided first aid to people on these things. Last time was in Santorini where a couple was making a u-turn and the driver crashed into a tree resulting in the passenger flying a few meters in the air landing and fracturing her hip. If you can always rent a vehicle. Did you get an OTE SIM card that allows you for 10€ to have unlimited 4G internet on your phone? You can use your phone as a modem for your other devices too.

    While you are right about Agkali Beach being a pretty typical tourist beach (good place to take kids, a few restaurants), about a 10-15 minute easy hike is Galifos Beach, which is clothing optional with a small guesthouse of 3 or 4 rustic rooms w/no electricity and someone who does ayurvedic massage. The other way is Fira Beach. I hiked to it from Chora but some people swam to it from Agkali and there is a rough trail from Agkali as well.
    Glad you made it to Folegandros and I'm watching you visit some places I've been, although I didn't make it to Katergo on my visit.

    *The way the Greek Islands are just scattered around reminds me of some video game map. Crazy how back in the day people just sailed all around. I wonder how common it was (and if it still is) for a Greek citizen to get to know as many islands as possible. Do they try and rack them up like you, or are they more indifferent about it? Keep it coming Gabe! Also: You're really getting your money's worth with that $380 supertitanium master 5000 bicycle* 😂 czcams.com/video/I2iUQqp-zU8/video.html

      do you realised how much time you need to visit all those islands ?
      many of them has no air port, and the ship lines didnt connect them directly even for the famous one, people has to choose the line of the islands that they want to see, for example you cant go with the same ship line even to Santorini and Myconos!
      also after a while every person find his favourite island or coast and he choose to spend many summers there to his favorite beaches and restaurants bars and local friends
      Gabriel is a great traveler, my favorite, but he has to slow down his energy to the Greek way of living to stop somewhere feel the vibe and the strange energy of some of those islands ( to me my 2 weeks in Amorgos once it was like i was high for those 2 weeks! i cant explain it) and living the moment free of pression for videos schedule etc
      sometimes all you need is an empty amazing beach swim naked under the sun drinking wine and stay there till the night to clear your mind.

    if you look on the map some islands are closer to Turkey so how come Greece got most of the islands

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  Před rokem +8

      Complicated history. Most of what is now Turkey used to be inhabited by Greeks. The Ottomans invaded, eventually conquered Constantinople in 1453 and pushed most of the Greeks out. I assume the border ended up where it is now at the islands because the sea is an obstacle, but there's probably a lot more to it than that.

      That's because Turkey expanded westwards. All this area including Turkey's Aegean coastline has been Greek for millennia. Even during Turkish occupation the population of these islands was always Greek.

      @Gk-ug6gu Před rokem +4

    • @Roger_Jack

      Greeks have a strong relation to the sea and to the aegean islands in particular that goes thousands of years back to history and continues till today.
      On the other hand, Turks were historically a steppe tribe that came into the area 1000 years ago and were just never into the sea way of life. Have in mind that it was a very demanding way of life as you can see in Gabriel's vids.
      So, even after 400 years of Turkish occupation the population of the Aegean islands remained greek and as you can understand this is the main reason that after many wars and trieties almost all Aegean islands belong to Greece.
      You can say it's a matter of self-determination of the local population.

    I love most of the Greek videos and I watch almost all of them, but your American pronunciation and butchering every place name is kinda off putting. Especially for a traveller that has been to so many places, surely you have talked to all kinds of people and picked up some different languages and know the basics of how to pronounce place names? No? Just me? OK. 😢
