I loved my two back-to-back Holland Greek cruises. Each island is unique and wonderful. I spent 2 weeks on Mykonos earlier, which remains my favorite, with Santorini a close second. But I do so agree Santorini was a challenge. I had to stop and regroup myself often due to heights, heat, and steep walkways. But the views at the top are unmatched. The food, wine, people, and history are unmatched. Will definitely be doing another Greek island cruise with possibly an added port of Istanbul. I LOVE Greece.
Thanks for sharing your experience! Greece is wonderfully unique!
You did such a wonderful, thorough job of explaining the Greek Isles. Thank you. Headed there next month, and you answered several questions I had!
Amazing scenery! Thank you for sharing!
Your review is spot on. Bravo! On our cruise we encountered a lady in a wheelchair, broken leg, looking like road burn all over her face and arms and legs...she took the donkey ride, donkey slipped, she fell....yeah, not a great way for a vacation. Just this past May another friend decided to walk up the trail, but was constantly looking out for donkey poo and having to move to the side or donkeys would have pushed her out of the way. Moral of my stories...take the cable car LOL
Did you get to see the Isle of Capri? A little historic information: Capri pants were sewn for Jacqueline Kennedy in the Isle of Capri. Just a little tidbit of useless information I know. Sorry to be so lame.
I enjoyed my time on Capri. We took the ferry from Naples. Also went up to AnaCapri.
@@jacqulynet I want to go to Italy and Greece. So much rich history over there. I’m a big history nut.
Nothing lame or useless about information that makes a place even more “real” and interesting to people who’ve never been there.
Very informational ! Thank you!!!
Thanks for the tips! Happy birthday Jordan! Love you!
Thank you for these tips, great info
We cruised the Greek Islands in a small ship (580 passengers). In the walled city of Rhodes, we were less crowded than on larger ships. A shop owner told us that when a large ship comes in the lines for the shops is terrible.
Thanks for this. It is very helpful.
We just did a Greek Isles cruise on Odyssey of the Seas in June. This review is spot on! I wish I would have had this advice before I went. We had a fabulous time-but did not enjoy the RC excursions in Santorini and Capri. I would totally do a private guide in the future.
Thanks Tracy for watching and sharing your experience as well! 🥳
Very helpful...thank you!
Very good advice on traveling to Greece. We did a Celebrity Cruise to the Greek Islands and Turkey in May 2022. Was one of the best trips we have taken. Your review and advice were spot on.
Thanks for the advice!!😊
Great, honest review! Thank you for including those of us that have mobility issues. ❤️
One of the best reviews I've seen of anything. Including extra information for everybody is top tier. Thank you. I have subscribed and I will recommend you guys to all of my friends.
Just the information I was looking for! Thank you so very much!
Great information! Thank you for the awesome advice.
Thank you for another great video, ❤️ you guys!
What a beautiful destination! Many thanks for this incredible video!!
Great job guys, super informative video. Spot on suggestion of private guide, we always do this. Regarding that "alley" with the crowds, got to say, the walk road between Trevi Fountain and The Pantheon, I've been when it is even more crowded.
Thank you for all the great information and advice.
I was patiently waiting for this video to post. 😊 I am traveling to Greece in September. I appreciate your travel tips!! 😎
Absolutely loved the video. The honesty and details. I just subscribed. Thank you.
This was a great and very thorough review. Thank you!
Very informative. Thank you
Thanks Sandy! ☺️
Great Video Guys. Thanks for the details at these stops, especially Santorini. Great tips and advice !
Thanks JT! We are so happy to hear you found it helpful! 🥳
Great ideas!
What a great practical review! We just got back from Italy /Greece/Montenegro/
Croatia. SO hot and SO crowded. I will not go again in the summer. Your review is spot on.
Thanks for a wonderful review!
Thanks Kim for watching and commenting! 🥳
This is so helpful for our upcoming Greek isles cruise in September. Hopefully the crowds abate a bit
Great content. Just booked our cruise for 2024. Can’t wait
Thank you for all the tips. I am booked for May. The most crowded place i have ever been was Santorini years ago. I see nothing has changed!
Yes! Still super crowded during peak season especially! Thanks for watching! 🥳
Enjoyed your information,. Going to cruise Greece in October! Thank you
Been there done that,The walk up the stairs in Santorini is a challenge, though I enjoyed it.I have been twice in September the weather is much better and not busy at all
I couldn’t walk these at all. I can only Watch your videos to see these beautiful places. I adore you guys.
Thanks for info! My best friend and I are doing a Greek Isles cruise next summer.
Awesome video! Love you guys!! ❤😊 My family and I are going to the Greek isles in May. Can i ask what company you used for your Santorini trip?
We did Disney Dream but with Athens included, early June, we were blessed because weather was perfect , crowds not crazy at all , didn’t have to wait more than 25 minutes for the cable car in our way back and we were the first tender so no wait at all. It was the best and so beautiful that we are planning to go back and do Island hoping .Enjoyed the culture the food the people the beaches the wineries the list is endless ! ❤
Thanks for watching and sharing your experience! So happy you didn’t have much of a wait or issue with crowds! 🥳
We took a private tour guide in Athens and we loved every minute of it. He took us to a Greek cafe where they let us sample everything on the menu. Also took us to a street artist event and some historic parks and museums.
Hello and thanks for this reply! I am in the early stages (exploring at this point) of planning a Greek isles cruise for the end of May/early June (want to be there for my 60th birthday) 2024. Would love to get some info on your private tour guide if you are able to share! Thanks, Carol
@@carolseverino8881 That was several years ago. I will try to find the contact.

Going to Greece isles in October....10 nights.. yeah... thank you
This is some awesome advice. And we literally just got booked our cruise and I'm definitely saving this video to go back and take notes. Thanks
Thanks for watching!! Enjoy Greece 🇬🇷
You guy's forgot to mention, the stairs up to Santorini that is the donkey trail is also the donkey bathroom, be careful where you step and if you fall, good luck.
I did the last cruise of the season in mid November one year, it was great. We were the only ship in port and all the shops were having sales to clear out the inventory. Along with the Greek food the Greek Beer and Wine was good also. I have fond memories of an outdoor cafe with a great view and a huge Sampler plate with a couple glasses of wine.
The Greek Islands are a must see part of a travel bucket list, try to do it while you are in good shape, so much walking and stairs. We were on an 11 night cruise and we only had 2 sea days, at the time we were 50 and 30 years old, even the 30 year old said a couple more sea days mixed in to rest would have been nice.
Yes! We definitely had to side-step many droppings on the trail! 😅
So glad you had such a wonderful cruise on the shoulder season!
Great video guys. I'm doing a cruise of the Greek isles in May (So I've already, accidentally, taken some of your advice). I shall definitely keep in mind what you have said.
I’m so thankful for this review - I have always wanted to go to the Greek Isles unfortunately I have a need for accessible accommodations - I was sad to hear it’s not a good itinerary to choose for me but I’m so glad I know! Thank y’all!!!
We are so happy to help! There may be some private tour companies for accessible touring in Greece but we would not recommend a cruise in our opinion.
We booked our excursions with the cruise line and as far as I can recall, I believe we only had the one tendered port, Santorini. I also recall climbing the acropolis in Athens and an older lady was in a wheelchair, but, she could walk short distances with help. So she did make it up using a combination of the two. When she would walk her wheelchair would be left and when she was resting someone from her family or group would go back to fetch the chair. Definitely, talk to your travel agent. The information I am giving you is old, almost 30 years old, but, came from our experience. There could have been a number of changes throughout all this time.
There is now handicap accessible lift that can be taken to the top of the acropolis.
My first backpacking trip was in 1992 to the Greek Islands. I fell in love with Santorini. And have spent 6 birthdays there. It's so crowded and expensive now. Last trip 2018, I left and island hopped. I'm doing a cruise there in September, and 3 b2b's there in Sept 2024. Never thought I would go via cruise ship!...but it's easier now...I've aged some 😅...renting a car and going to surprise my friend there, and in Kusadasi also. Spent a lot if time in Turkey. Other than Paris, this is my favorite places to go!
Thx for sharing. Did a wonderful Greece/Italy cruise on Norwegian back in Aug-Sep 2018....AMAZING!!! Definitely want to return to Santorini and Crete. Needed an extra suitcase for all my shopping.
Was just there with family last July. Loved it❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it! 🥳
I can’t wait! Odyssey of the Seas 8 nights in September! Wish you guys was going with me! I’ve been looking forward to this! Thanks!❤
Have the best of times!! Wish we were there too! ☺️
We’re cruising to Greek Islands in September. This video is the most helpful I’ve seen…Thanks!
So happy we could help! 🥳
Will be cruising there in November this year..Thank you for this video...
Enjoy Greece! 🇬🇷
Can you share the info for the tour guide? We are going next July and will definitely need one. Great video! Very helpful Thank you😊
Im planning to go in May 2024. This helped a lot!!!
#Replay ❤ This video is soooo good! Thank you for ALL the amazing tips as I'm taking momma-T on a 12-night Holyland cruise next year (off season as you say in the video, end of October). We are visiting Naples, Italy; Athens/Santorini/Rhodes, Greece; Limassol, Cyprus; Haifa Jerusalm/Ashdod, Israel; and Souda, Crete....R/T out of Rome. I can't wait.
Thanks for the video. We are visiting the Med in Sept/Oct 2024. This is definitely helpful information!Which private tour company did you use in Santorini?
We cruised Greece, Israel and Turkey last fall on the NCL Jade departing from Athens and had an absolute blast! Greece is an amazingly beautiful country. Because we cruised at the tail end of the season, we didn't have the problems with crowds that you experienced. You are spot on with the need to carry cash because many of the merchants on Santorini, Cyprus, Jerusalem, and even in Athens didn't take cards. Good walking shoes are a must! The marble pathways in Ephesus were extremely slippery and in every port there were lots of elevation changes and steep stairs.
Also, buy your tickets for the Parthenon online. We didn't do that and stood in the hot Greek sun for an hour. to buy tickets.
Around what month do you recommend to book for? I want to avoid the huge crowds as much as possible thank you.🙏
@@LunaRose316 Book toward the end of the season, like September or October. I prefer traveling off-peak to avoid crowds..
@@Gobear1 thank you!!! I will do that it will be my first cruise ever so thank you for the guidance 🙏
We will be cruising from from 15 to 26 of May from Barcelona. Will it be crowded? Thank you for the answer!
Heading out to the Greek Isles in May. We plan to book a couple of private tours through Viator for the sites we really want to see. Thanks for the info. Glad I saw this before I went
We have Greek Isles planned for a shoulder season in 2024. Thanks for the great information. I plan on the cable cars to get up the cliffs!!
So helpful! We are going to Greece this summer. You two are so adorable! ❤❤
Great video of Greece.
We are going in October.
What private tour guide did you use?
This is a great video, guys. Thank you so much for your helpful tips. A friend of mine just got back from a Greek Isles cruise and we’re getting together soon and she’s going to tell me all about it. Thank you for the warning about Santorini. I have heard that the lines for the trams can be up to two hours and more.
Thanks Terri for watching! Yes, definitely some high waits in the sun if you don’t get there early enough. 😅
We are heading on a similar trip in October. Agree with your views. We also visit Istanbul Athens and Kusadasi so likely to use Santorini as a rest day, take the views from the ship! We have been before!
For those brave enough to take the donkey trail the smell of the poo is awful especially in the heat !!
We live in Canada and went to Greece on our Honeymoon the middle of May almost 30 years ago. When we left Canada it was actually snowing which was unusual and 105 degrees F in the shade. I agree wholeheartedly with you Santorini was fantastic. We were recommended by the cruise director not to take the donkey ride on Santorini as in her words they were psychotic, but, if that was something that interested you to take it on Rhodes which is what we did. The donkeys on Santorini actually went down where the cable cars went. We had a week on Rhodes as well as 2 2 day cruises. Besides Santorini and Rhodes we saw Ephesus in Turkey, Mykonos, Crete, Patmos and Athens. The only change we would make would be to spend the week on Crete instead of Rhodes. As hot as it was the Greeks were complaining in May the hotel in Rhodes refused to turn the A/C on and just told everyone to open their patio/balcony doors. Only one problem with that solution is they did not believe in screens, which we were also warned about. So if you forgot or ignored the advice you woke up to bugs of all description sheeting your walls. The other comment about Rhodes is that the chef could not cook. Everything that should have been cold was lukewarm at best and what should have been piping hot such as fried or scrambled eggs were also lukewarm at best.
OH, I had to respond a second time,,,,,,That was so much good information!!!!! Thank you so much! best to you both
Aww thank you Marty!! We are so happy to hear! 🥳🤗
We have been to Santorini and we love it!
Mom and I are going to Greece during the Bridge season (end of March/early April) on the Silversea and can I just say how excited I am to see donkey trails and donkeys that you can hire? I'm an avid equestrian and I have been itching to actually ride during my vacation. Thanks for the honest review; it gives me such a better idea of what I'm looking at in terms of crowds (eek), temperatures, and more.
Thank you both for this very informative video❤
Thanks for watching!
We go June thank you for the tips ! Any excursions you felt were worth it ?
Thank you for talking about the crowds ! Definitely looking to avoid as much as possible lol .We do turkey / greek islands
I cruised the Greek Isles in October 2021. Perfect weather, small crowds. My recommendation for your viewers is to go during the "shoulder" seasons. It is incredibly hot and crowded during the peak summer season, as we had been in the Med during summers previously. My Greek Isle cruise was 7 days with 6 ports! We left out of Athens and went to Crete, Rhodes, Mykonos, Santorini, Olympia (mainland Greece), and Corfu. Is was all Greece, all the time, and it was wonderful! Thanks for the video. It was fun re-living Santorini and Mykonos.
Agree, also took a Med cruise in October. Amazingly, we were the only cruise ship In Santorini that day!
We definitely agree with the shoulder season recommendation - thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts!
We will be crusing in November...hopefully the weather is grat and crowds small.
We will be on a Viking Ocean Cruise and will be in the Greek Islands in December. Viking includes an excursion in every port. I assume there won’t be many crowds in December. Went to the Greek Islands at least 10 years ago - Celebrity cruise. Loved that the Greek Islands each had their own look.
What kinda months are shoulder season ?
GREAT Advice!
Y’all are so Cute ❤
Thanks Sheila!
We loved our Greek Isles cruise in 2019! Even in September it was very hot! I'd second what you both and another commenter who recommended going during "shoulder" season, to spare yourself both the bigger crowds and the heat. It was still plenty busy and hot! :) I'm glad I skipped the climb at Santorini; it does not sound very appealing to me. I totally agree on early seating; we were glad to have late seating on our cruise. Great advice as usual! Thank you!
Thanks Amy for watching and sharing your tips based on experience as well! 🤗🥳
we are heading there this August with 5 people in our group, can you share what private tour you used? Thank you in advance! Great info and I really enjoyed your video!
Very good tips! I have visited those Isles, but it was back in 2010. I am going there again this upcoming June and I am very excited. Thanks for reminding me about the heat. I am planning on going down from Santorini using those stairs, but I can change my mind. I have my excursions booked as I am a travel agent as well and I like to plan things ahead. Thanks for another great video!
Thanks for watching!! 🤗 Have a wonderful trip!
Great info! Hubby wants to go on a Greek Isle cruise - I like the suggestion of not going at the height if summer. I think I’d like to go and Australia/New Zealand cruise before Greek Isles. It’s a hard decision!😊
Both are wonderful, unique itineraries!
You are so right I had to walk the donkey trail and it was horrible due to being slippery and so many stairs.
We will never do that again 😅
Great tips. What private tour company did you use? We are heading on a Greek Island/Turkey cruise in June 2024.
Hey guys. Beautiful scenery, food and shopping. But look at this slippery terrain. This I could not too. Good to know about the cable car 🚠 wait. Not an accessible port. Great tips as usual. Thanks so much.
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! 🤗
Great review.
Thanks!!
You guys wear some of the coolest shirts I've ever seen. Love your style! Just an observation I've made since finding your channel. Also love your videos, including this one.
Aww thank you! 🥰
Just got back from a med cruise. I informed my friend she must not be mobility challenged. I told her Europe is not a good choice for mobility challenged people. For a year before the trip she insisted she was walking and building endurance. She lied. She never walked to build endurance. When I met her at the airport she had a cane and could barely make it to the gate without huffing and puffing. Moral of the story is, do not travel with liars, they will ruin your trip. If you need a scooter or a cane or walker, DO NOT try this trip. I am going back without the liar so I can see more.
So sorry to hear! We completely understand the limitations are so frustrating for all but especially when someone lies to you about their ability.
We wish Europe had more accessibility throughout but also understand the history makes it difficult.
My wife and I are going on a Greek isles cruise on 8/23/23. This was a great video for us to watch. Very informative. We subscribed and hit the bell button. Thx so much 😊
How did you enjoy it ?
Good morning! Great information. We’ll be doing a Greek/Italian cruise in September.
QUESTION how many Euros to bring would you recommend for a 10 day cruise?
First time to Europe.
We would recommend a couple hundred euros to start. But you could always get more at an ATM if you bring your bank card. (Just check on fees)
Thanks for your video, really helpful. I am going with a 10yr and 8yr old in July! Height of the season🤪 Would you recommend a tour with kids or is it easy enough to just have a walk around most places? Our ship doesn't dock ubtil 2pm in Santorini, while all the others dock in the morning so hoping that might help!
Do u have any recommendations for private tour? TripAdvisor or viator reliable?
TOURS BY LOCALS….we used them in Venice and were not disappointed😊
Thanks for sharing your pros & cons of the Greek isles, my son will be leaving this month July 27th. Thanks 😊
Thanks for watching!
Great video...im leaving tomorrow for 14 days sailing on Norwegian.😊
Planning to go to Greek Islands in September 2024. Can you share who you used for a private tour of Santorini so we can avoid crowds too! Thanks.
I enjoyed your video and much of your advice is on point. However, I wish to correct you when you stated that marble contributed to the hot environment in Santorini. It is the dark colored soil and volcanic rock that create additional heat during the summer months. Marble, on the other hand, is a heat insulator and cool to the touch even on the hottest of days. That’s why marble floors in Greek homes is used. You made a great point about accessibility on your Greek island cruise. However, you chose the three most non-accessible islands to indicate that Greek Isles as being non-accessible. In fact, many of the other 100 Greek islands are handicap accessible and one just has to do their homework as they would any trip.
Great tip abthe cash needed
I agree about the views on Santorini and Mykonos. You did an awesome job of showing the beauty of the Greek Isles. I was there, July 2022 on the Celebrity Beyond, hottest summer on record in Europe 🥵 I chuckled at the fact you didn’t mention the toilet paper issue he he he he he.
The toilet paper issue . . .? Going to Greece next year; what do we need to know?
Who would you use has a third party shore excursions for athens greece
Thank you for this review, I am heading out on Celebrity Infinity for a 7-night cruise (Best of Greece) with 2 ladies! This is so good to know before we head out on June 22, 2024. We did book an excursion in Santorini because I do not feel that we will be able to wander this hot spot on our own. Do you happen to know where and how we catch the excursion shuttles? Do you know how we can find out?
Windstar Cruises truly know how to take travelers to the most extraordinary destinations 🚢
What beach did you go to in Chania? My husband and I are doing this cruise next year and would love thoughts.
You mentioned that the windmills in Mykonos are a 5 to 10 minute walk. Did you have to tendered into the main town or was this a 5 to 10 minute walk from where the cruise ship was docked? Thanks for all the helpful tips and insight!!!
This was a tender port so 5-10 minutes once you are tendered/sea bussed into Mykonos.☺️
Hey! Planning a Greek Isles trip for 2024!! Can you provide the info to the private tour co. for Santorini? TY in advance 🙂
Can I ask how rough it is? Is it like a normal ocean cruise or more like a river cruise? Hubby and I can't handle ocean cruises. I've been to the Greek islands a long time ago and we ferry hopped from island to island. I'm gathering it's a bit like that? Thanks
who did you book with for the private tour ? thanks
Well if you take a Cruise excursion in Santorini none of the problems are an issue such as walking from the port...no cable cars..Tours always take you to areas for bathrooms. The Excursions from the ships take you to.all of the Isle, Not just 5 or 10.mins away..Our Excursion lasted 8 hrs.
Also if you cruise there in May or Sept, it is not that hot...
As far as Tendering, Excursions have the priority...
The crowds are ONLY THERE in June July Aug....I cruised there in May and it was practically empty...
To go to the Greek Isles in the Summer is insane, I would NEVER do that.
Good morning JJCrew
