The Rock has been playing a character his entire life-I don't think Dwayne Johnson even knows who Dwayne Johnson is. He's a product, a commodity.
Sometimes I even think his marriage is fake and his 2 smaller children are just to make sure people think he’s straight. Nothing wrong with being gay but with his personality I wouldn’t be surprised if he‘s hiding it to the point, where he even started a new family with 2 children.

Well, what if you have the option to? The Rock is very successful with for what acting is for most, very little effort. His movies do well and he's just being the Rock in them. Why be an intense asshole if you don't have to? Did you hear the stories about the Fast franchise? Vin Diesel apparently is very intimidating and a diva towards the staff. Then the Rock came on and he was being the hard working professional that he is while still being kind and open to people. So the whole staff pulled towards him more. And The Rock certainly isn't afraid of Vin Diesel, which is why he basically took over and criticized the divas, of whom Tyrese was one as well.
Yes, you have people who act nice but in reality aren't. But The Rock has been in so many movies already, has been famous for such a long time... Why not accept him for being this guy? If you want to see something negative in this then talk about having lack of opinions. But fact is that there are people who just focused on the positive and thrive on bringing positivity. And again, realize he has every reason to.
From a story and character arc perspective, having a "No Lose" clause in your contract may be one of the worst things you can do for an acting career. Characters that suffer no set backs or low points inevitably suck. I can't understand why anyone would want to have a character that doesn't overcome.
Like basically every female hero from a marvel or disney movie recently. They're god like without any training and face virtually no adversity, they just kick ass the whole time. Rock would love that
uhhh because you could become a multi-millionaire by only starring in movies where story and character arc don't matter. you know, the bulk of hollywood productions. that's like asking Taylor Swift "why do you only write radio friendly pop music?"
Idk if I believe it - and I’d like to see the document if it exists. The rock understands the wrestling business, and he has taken part in many storylines as a hero and villain. In those stories the baby face characters always have to go through the wringer before overcoming everything to become victorious. I would think when it comes to his movies this sentiment and level of understanding would carry over. He’s not dumb.

@joe-The Rock is what steven could have become if he were more likeable lol
Dwyane won't put any bad guys over in his films 😬
Compare that to Batista. He's perfectly willing to look like a complete fool on camera if the role demands it (for example in Dune 2 you'll see quite a few scenes in there where he gets humiliated in fights). And as a result, Batista is a far better actor who actually gets to act in serious, dramatic roles.
He is like a real life walking billboard. Would promote anything which pays him. Zero character or opinion, its like robot lol
I loved The Rock back in the late 90's early 00's during the peak of his wrestling career. But damn... he really has become a joke these days.

To me, the Rock just comes off like a Manchurian Candidate. He is the poster boy for disingenuous behavior. He tries so hard to say all the right things at all the right times he just comes off weird. Nothing about him is organic. You can tell it's all carefully constructed. I'm a career salesman, and even I'm annoyed by how much he is always trying to peddle something to you. I was a huge fan of him from the beginning, like we all were, but about 3 years ago, I quit following the guy. You know something is off when your wrestling gimmick seems more real than the actual person.
His Rogan podcast to a T.
When you meet him, in person, you realize he's just a genuine people pleaser. He wants to make the most people smile as he can. He's willing to adapt to align himself with what the majority of people want. I can see how some might think it's disingenuous, but I think it's just being a good, mindful person. Humans continue to grow as a species and part of that is that views change. Some very bad ways and beliefs have come to an end, because things happen that lead to the majority of people's perception changing. I think the wise thing to do, if you're in the minority on a topic, try to see why people's perception changed. More times than not, the majority is moving in the right direction. We, as humans, just tend to have a hard time accepting that what we were raised up believing, is actually wrong.

I don’t love nor hate the Rock, but I will say that find it hilarious that he’s literally one of the highest paid “actors” in Hollywood yet he doesn’t know how to play anyone besides himself. He just doesn’t seem to have much of a range when it comes to actual “acting”. So far, I haven’t seen anything he’s in that says otherwise. He always plays himself or plays the character like “Dwayne Johnson as *insert character’s name”. He hasn’t really proven he can disappear from a role.

What’s crazy is he’s been in movies now for damn near 20 something years and has shown zero improvement in his acting skills
That’s pretty similar to Vin Diesel; not playing anything other than themselves. Just one example as there are other talented actors who get accused of just playing themselves
He’s pretty awesome in Pain & Gain as an insane coke sniffing Christian.

"The Rock" isn't a person, he's a persona, a brand. He has no quarrel offending people, as long as it isn't public. His value has always been his Q-rating. It rises from teasing being president (and how great his chances are winning it), but it might drop from actually doing it.
I don't believe he has the courage to actually try and run. He could win purely on his notoriety and the stupidity of American voters. But I don't believe for a second he has any personal desires, hell.. I don't think there's anything to the man. He's disingenuous because he became his brand. And seeing what happened to Trump, America's golden billionaire to now Orange Hitler; Dwayne would be ruining his brand as he isn't a politican, nor has any notable stances he could take that are truly unique to himself or his vision of America.

Aside from the rock getting huge, he also tends to drop things quickly. If a movie bombs he'll go back to wrestling, if he loses wrestling matches or becomes less popular he'll go back to movies. He will also make sure that if he is in wrestling at the time, that everyone is talking about him, even if he isn't champion it'll be all about him. A prime example of this is what's happening currently in wrestling, the Rock comes back, inserts himself in the main event for the championship belt, fans didn't like that, write him as a heel now. Also, every week he will talk shit about Cody rhodes (The challenger), while the champion at the time will be pushed to the sidelines so the rock can do the same shit he's been doing since the 2000s in wrestling , while also making wrestlemania about him more than it is about Cody rhodes (and Roman reigns (the current champion.) who will be wrestling the second night of wrestlemania by inserting himself into a tag team match main event at wrestlemania. Also what does he do when he gets back into wrestling? Immediately start pushing his social media with call out posts to get himself views and clicks. There is a huge ego thing with the rock where he puts himself in the spotlight above anyone else both in wrestling and in movies.

Poor Guy.
As a fan of pro wrestling. the stark difference between him in pro wrestling and outside of pro wrestling is kinda bizzare. it's like he is two different person
in pro wrestling he is feel like his real self. he doesn't afraid to diss people. he willing to put down his ego and get his ass beaten for if it's the best for business, he willing to change his character etc
but outside of pro wrestling he's felt more like a robot and marketing machine who sole purpose from the moment he wakes up until he get to sleep again was to promote his brand and protect his public image and didn't care about anything other than his own ego
The Rock NEEDS to do something different, he's so fucking exhaustingly saturated in media, that he needs to do something unhinged like pain and gain again
Pain and Gain is my favorite Rock performance of all time. It's like.. he stopped being "The Rock" for once in his life and adapted as a supportive role
The other movie that he actually really acted in was The Gridiron Gang.
@@Chthonian121Rock being an out of control coke head in that movie feels closer to the man we see in interviews
Arnold Schwarzenegger set the blueprint of success - Dwayne is simply following the same path, but trying to skip the governor step and milking everything he can from it all
don't compare fake Rock with walking charisma Arnold
At least Arnold can actually act. Yeah he’s played a few characters that are the same, but we enjoy them anyway. Arnie just oozes charm and passion for the work he does; plus the dude was a freaking Governor of California which was pretty awesome

I will never understand the obsession men have for another man’s physique . The weirdest shit ever 😂😂
In the age of ultra connected, digital, social media age he is probably the first fully formed archetype of the A-List famous "walking billboard" figure. He is an individual that operates in public more like a corporate entity or a brand. His MO is to reamin as broadly, widely marketable as possible to the point of extreme optimisation, no public opinions, a rigorously planned and curated appearance portrayed across social media etc, all in service of making sure there is not a shred of a whiff of a possibillity he could make the smallest dent in his marketabillity in any possible markets or demographics. Anyone can buy him for the right price, to the extreme degree.

It's time athletes start being more open. Most casual fans don't understand that most of their favorites are on gear.
Because casuals don't care. Only you people obsessed with other people's body's care. 😂
Not gonna happen, engagement in sports in schools and NCAA will drop knowing that these athletes are on gear and tons of ethical enquirers for the children. It can only really happen in bodybuilding where it’s a given they’re on steroids and no one really cares
Rock isnt an athlete bro, so what are you talking about? Hes an actor and also with WWE, which dosent mean anything as steroids are literally encouraged in WWE, where the ones at the top probably take them. And acting theres no consequences for taking them lol
he's talking about your favourite athlete kid, you know...the one that you think is natty but 100% is on some shit (insert X athlete that you fanboi over)@@PLUTOXGOAT
@@PLUTOXGOATYeah I'm not sure who''s fooled by the "I'm totally natty bro trust me" spiel anymore. You can't be as massive yet lean as The Rock without being on all kinds of gear.
I know some people will say "But teenagers don't know and it'll screw up their body image" but... zoomers are familiar with fitness culture and they _definitely_ know. If young guys who are into fitness get on gear it won't be because they their favourite influencer is natty - it'll be because they _know_ fitness e-celebs are on gear and they want the same results.

I haven't seen a single person who even thinks he's a good candidate
Yes men say so.
Probably the corporate overlords who see him as someone they can easily control
@@isiahalcindor6278 Yes men.
No one has. This is his way of gettin it in ppls heads. Therefor when he does run, they are already wanting it. It's like Katt Williams making sayin he doesn't promote himself all the while doing a controversial interview
Idiots who don't even know what his policies would be. They just think "Oh he's popular and seems nice". What's his stance on abortion? The border? Ukraine? Gaza? How to solve homelessness? No one knows, because he'll never say, because he can't. It would damage his image.
“No lose clause”?? I’ve heard enough
Yeah he feels so robotic nowadays. Probably has to please those higher ups all the time. Poor Rock
I never liked the Rock. Not even back when he was a wrestler, there was always something plastic about him, something designed for maximum marketability. I did have some small amount of respect for him at one point though, and that was when I learned his father was a wrestler. I can respect someone for following in their father's footsteps, but that respect has been lost because it turns out he didn't care. As for his physique...Come on, man. We can all see it, he's the most obvious juicer that ever juiced. He looked better when he started wrestling, he looked like an actual human being back then. If he ever lost his mass now, I bet he would look like shriveled beef jerky.
Here's the scary thing about Dwayne Johnson: he returned to WWE and last Friday did a promo with Roman Reigns. Even though he had not worked out or excersizes at all he was completely out of breath when doing the promo.I wouldn't be surprised if he suffered a major heart attack in the near future. He has muscles in his head! You don't get that unless you are taking steroids and you also can very easily die from them.
If he dies, do you think that will be enough to make him go away?
@@NiGiffHe speaks with such a specific sanitized cadence that I wouldn't be surprised if he was reproduced by AI
I had a friend like him once, he was very muscular and tall, told us that he was training every day very hard, etc. One day, we're already playing Basketball for an hour, and he came to us. He threw the ball twice (!) and said: "OMG, I can't continue, I'm already exhausted, how do you guys manage to play for that long." For me, this was my confirmation that he wasn't training at all, and everything if not most of his body comes from steroids, which he denied taking.

he really annoyed the shit out of me in doom for some reason. the way he was promoting it as if he was a big time pc gamer it sounded like someone said hes a cheat sheet about the backstory of the game and pretend you were sitting at home playing it. i doubt hes ever even seen the game or tapped on a old school computer keyboard. then after that i got more annoyed that he was the star in every single major big budget film with his over acting. i liked him as a wrestler like 20 years ago for a short time but even then i could only listen to him in small doses over selling his injuries
As much I hate to say it, the rock has turned into hulk hogan. 😔
I thought I was the only one that didn't like him.
People love Keanu Reeves because he's a genuine, humble, down to earth person. What you see is what you get. The Rock pretends to be that. Everyone was always skeptical. But there was nothing that you could call him out for. But since all the drama he's been involved in with DC and the Fast and Furious crew, and the thing in his contracts where he can't lose on screen. People have reason to not like him. It's not just "I dunno, there's something off about the guy". The guy is fake af. Which is hard to like. And if you Americans actually think he will do what "the people" want then you guys are truly lost.
He’s also the driving force behind a live-action “Moana”. Can we say the man wants to stroke his own ego with this project? People are done with the Disney live-action train
At least Keanu is actually a genuine nice guy; I have several friends who have worked with him and confirmed he’s a sweetie.
I’ve been over the Rock stuff for ages. I don’t see any actual acting talent in movies & it’s just bland IMO
@@LucyLioness100 I agree with both your points. I didn't know they were making a live action Moana though. It hasn't even been 10 years yet and they are making that? To be fair, The Rock is a brand. He can't just say what he wants to say or him and everyone that's under his umbrella will suffer.
It's just the nature of the game. If you won't do it, someone else would do it.
That would be fair if he didn't say shit "I used to be a nice to guy and now I just do what I want", but of course that's just brand as well. Let's call bullshit for bullshit. It is that too real?

7:14 Hmm... this must be why his role in Doom is one of his few roles that stood out to me. He played an asshole who became a villain late in the movie and got killed after a kickass fight against Karl Urban. He was obviously a villain in The Scorpion King, but was mostly a busted CG monster for most of the action scenes (which I couldn't take seriously).
Both roles were pretty early in his Hollywood career. Back then he didn't have enough power or influence to stop that
@@DrunkenPadawan
The Rundown (2003) also happens to be my favorite Dwayne Johnson movie, and despite not being a villain, he still got his ass kicked plenty of times (sometimes for comedic effect). It didn't stop him from being a total badass (I'd argue it made him even cooler since it humanized him). It also made it much more satisfying when he managed to turn the tables on his enemies.
@@The_Isaiahnator You're absolutely right. His early film career was much better. He actually played different characterslike in 'Be Cool' or 'Southland Tales'. But then he realised he can make a bloody fortune by being a boring brand.
@The_Isaiahnator He also did Walking Tall around the same time which was good. He's still the tough guy hero but he actually has to overcome tough odds and one scene literally involves him being tortured with a knife.
I dont even mind if the Rock just plays "tough hero" roles just as long as its interesting like The Rundown and Walking Tall. This current can-never-lose human advertisement iteration of him is just awful.
ROCK was ACTUALLY good in doom, one of the very very few movies that he actually Did alright...
I know a lot of you would have no idea about this, but the growing resentment towards the rock had even spilled over into WWE. For the first time since 2003, he has been booed and pretty much was forced to turn heel (bad guy, villain) so it’s seems like his growing backlash is happening in all circles
It's that 'no lose,' and stepping in to take the highest position thing. Everyone wants Roman vrs Rock, they just didn't want him stepping in all of a sudden and taking the spotlight with no context at all. If there had been a build up to that happening, no one would have cared. The current story is pretty compelling though, and it has everyone talking.
The Rock is pretty good as a heel.
It's a shame cause he seems like a really nice guy.
He also had a horrendous SNL skit about a robot that did terrible things to children, I’ll let you look it up

Getting in quick before its taken down. His attempts to be liked by everyone just comes off a bit sad. Pathetic to be honest. Even though he has succeeded in life. Celebrities are better when they're flawed because it shows they're human and you can relate to them. The pairing of him and Kevin Hart got tiresome real quick which really put me off. You couldn't escape their stuff and it was always the same stale "Kevin Hart little. Rock big meathead" humor appealing to moms across social media. Arnie managed to balance the "killing machine is a nice guy" but that was before social media so it wasn't spammed at you across multiple platforms every day.
