Israel Adesanya has had a bad year. After a dominant run as the middleweight champ in the UFC, his days on the throne have come to an end. He's managed to lose both his title and his dignity in one fell swoop and now the question is - will he ever be able to make a comeback?

In the future? Nah this sport moves on to quick he will be left behind and not well rounded enough to hang with the divisions top, Dricus beats him, khamzat…. I think so aswell.
Izzy won’t be missed, after kicking Yoel Romero’s leg and running away doing little kicks trying to be boring and cash in a payday, then at the presser he says “if you want to be champ then you have to come and get it” so that is what Strickland did and sparked him a beauty! 😂
Gyno bender won’t be back as the blueprint has been laid out for everyone else now.

I think when it came to losing to Pereira, Izzy always had outs in his mind. "I actually won the first fight, the judges were wrong. I was winning the 2nd and 3rd fights before the finish." Plus given Pereira's status as a kickboxing double champ and legend, he wouldn't have been too ashamed to lose to him.
However, losing to Strickland was a real stab in the gut since there's no out for him. He wasn't winning at basically any point in their fight, and Strickland completely dominated him for five rounds. His biggest rival, Pereira, had made Strickland seem foolish by knocking him out in 1 round whereas Strickland had totally controlled Izzy and made it look easy.

This doesn't even scratch the surface as to why he is so disliked. He is the very definition of able to dish it out but can't take it.
For example around his Vettori rematch, he burped in Vettori's face during a face off, he tapped him on the ass during the fight, and even pointed at laughed at him after the final bell (after 5 strong rounds). After the fight they shook hands and Vettori said he thought he won the fight and the first thing Adesanya said in this post-fight interview was "this is martial arts, show some respect". The irony of that one.
Talked a huge game against Romero and Cannonier. "I will make him crumble like the twin towers", "I will be the first man to finish him", "I don't want to just show up, I want to show off my skilss and put on a classic for the fans", etc. Then proceeds to have the most boring fight of the year. In the post fight interview always says it is his opponent's fault that the fight was boring.
Whittaker was born in NZ and moved to Australia as a child, Adesanya called him a fake Kiwi and called his heritage into question. Adesanya was born in Nigeria and moved to NZ as a child, Dricus called him a fake African champion and Izzy went ballistic.

Don't blame me, the way you're defending Vettori made it look like you were just as delusional as him and would think he had "5 strong rounds".
Vettori deserved everything he got. If Izzy came out of the Strickland fight and said "nah I won that" you couldn't shit on him enough to satisfy yourself. But the roles are reversed and every fighter Izzy is up against suddenly becomes a saint that can do and say no wrong in the eyes of you haters.
Vettori is a clown for saying he won that fight, deserved all the ridicule. Not giving him the respect after getting whopped 5 rounds straight is self evidently disrespectful so I really don't understand your issue, unless of course you're a hypocrite. @@nWofan4ever

So this whole dog thing, we're just gonna gloss over it and pretend this is ok? That shit is NOT normal!" He was utterly and completely humiliated by Strickland not because of what he did, but because he forced Izzy to look at himself in a very public mirror while calling him a creep in front of the world. Izzy broke right then. You can almost see his soul leave his body at the press conference how his face tightens more and more and he shifts his weight in discomfort. Then when I heard about this Strickland guy it was about him not having a filter, which I watched a bit of and thought well I guess he's just the current class clown perhaps. Then came Alex to set him straight which he did for the most part. But then he got 1 win vs Alex and thinks he’s back to the top, which he very well could’ve have been, only to say it’s settled when it clearly wasn’t and Alex still had his number. Then he lost it to Strickland in what appeared to be an amateur level fight.
He got lost in his lies thinking he was the best. He searched for greatness and instead found delusional success. The belts and title defenses don’t make you the goat, the fights you put on and the love from the fans do.
He always says fuck the belt, he wants his legacy to be great but he got so lost. You can’t obtain greatness without risks. He needs to put on spectacles worthy of Anderson Silva entertainment if he wants to reach greatness.

I also think a lot of the hate came because of the same mistake that this video makes. The idea that Izzy somehow "proved everyone wrong" by beating Alex 1/4 times. A lot of the fans were annoyed by the notion that Izzy wins once and has proven he is great or some nonsense. He lost 3 times. He needs to beat Alex 3 more times to win their feud.

Downfall? Hardly, it's called a career of a fighter who fights constantly, Muhammad Ali's career went the same, unless you plan a career that only guarantees you wins, then it will come with ups and downs, I for one am enjoying every moment of his fighting career, know this, wins or losses you'll miss the lad when he's hung em up.

The situation now is even worse for him after his response to Pereira about coming back. Alex respectfully called out Izzy, saying that he’s a talented man and wanted to motivate him the same way Izzy did years ago (even though this “motivation” was saying that Pereira will always forever be a guy in the bar telling that beat him once). Well, Izzy now is that guy in the bar.

now that he takes some time off in fighting all I can say is, I never thought Sean Strickland is the man that can damage Izzy’s confidence and character. I can’t blame him if he feels bad losing to Strickland, I mean who would have thought? It’s a tough pill to swallow that Sean was the only fighter who walked down Izzy so easily. Adesanya really needs to take some time off and re-assess himself on this.

    • @stealthyturtles
      @stealthyturtles Před 6 měsíci +2

Everyone who fights izzy has always let him off the hook for some reason. They will have him against the cage, no escape, and they reset to the middle and let him walk forward on them. Strickland is the only person who kept pressure and instead of backing off, used fundamental basic striking. Fast jabs, 1-2 when a jab connects clean, and get off the center line for a hook when you see the opponent telegraph something big. That’s all Sean did the entire fight. Maintain a tight defense and it’s a wrap. IMO it really showed a lack of depth for Izzy, he’s a good counter puncher but that’s about it, you have to blitz on him and give him something. Izzy could’ve initiated grappling in the clinch, circled out off a clinch, changed levels for a takedown to create a little more space and escape off that, teep kicked to maintain his own distance. It’s MMA there’s tons of options, all he did was let Sean march him down for 25 minutes and tag him the entire time.
