    So here we are with an update on the 2003 Honda CR250 project bike. We are doing very well from a budget perspective on this bike if we don’t account for the labor that it takes to do all this. We bought the bike for $1800 and didn’t want to spend more than $4000 total. Even though we had some surprises that ended up costing a bit more than we intended, we have only put about $1,820 worth of mandatory parts into the bike. Keep in mind that this doesn’t include labor except for two things that I think 99.99 percent of riders would have to pay for (NikaSeal Coating repair on the cylinder and welding on the swing arm. The following list are the things I could remember that we did to the bike that we feel are mandatory to get the bike in top shape for the type of riding we do. There are other more “fun” things that we did that are not included in on this list that make the bike more expensive, but here are the bare bones:
    $74- Chain/Spockets - Primary Drive
    $16 - Levers - Tusk
    $44 - Wheel Bearings - Pivot Works
    $81 - Linkage Bearing Rebuild Kit - Pivot Works
    $168 - Top end kit (piston, rings, gaskets, etc.) - Vertex
    $108 - Fork and shock rebuild kit and oil - Pivot Works
    $120 Tires - Skinko
    $40 - Tubes (we did TUbliss on this bike, otherwise we would have needed tubes)
    $22 - Cables - Tusk
    $14 - Grips - Pro Taper
    $160 - Skid Plate - Moose Racing
    $50 - Rear disk guard - Tusk
    $153 - Silencer (forrest service approved) - FMF
    $39 Brake pads and fluid - Tusk
    $130 - Kick stand - Trail Tech
    $40 - Carb Rebuild Kit - All Balls
    $350 - Cylinder NikaSeal Plating repair
    $150 Swing Arm Repair
    $100 Misc other parts
    I’ll have more coming out on this bike here in the next few weeks (hopefully) and I’ll enlist Sam and Tyler to ride the bike for a bit when it’s complete since I can’t ride for a few more months while I rehab my ACL/MCL on my knee.
    Special thanks to my $10/month patrons on / dirtbikechannel

    Been ordering from Rocky Mountain ATV website since I found out about them on TT dirt-bike forum. I've been ordering from them, probably going on 10-12 years now... Great Company!! Keeps my current bike, an '06 YZ250, going strong and a bunch of other bikes in the past.

    I always suggest people order through RMATVMC when ever they have the part. The fact that they dont charge a sales tax and have hands down the best rewards system is enough for me.

    That nikasil repair cost as much as a new OEM jug would have! Sometimes you just have to make a judgement call. This project also proves what I tell people all the time; that if you are planning on buying a $1500 bike, you better have $1500 more to put into it.

    I live in North Ontario Canada and love your videos. I started dirt biking at age 9 and had bikes up till 18 then was bike less until last year (10 years later). I decided to get back into dirt biking after watching your videos and now am full blown obsessed again. I have recently rebuild a 1998 cr250 and Rocky Mountain ATV MC is awesome for parts and sometimes cheaper than here even though I need to pay a 30% premium with the exchange. Keep up the awesome videos!!!!!

    I’m also rebuilding a 2001 cr250. Parts add up fast and so does the money. The more I spend the more my smile gets bigger. Rocky Mountain has great customer service and they always have the aftermarket as well as oem parts in stock! Good looking bike and can’t wait to see it on the trail

    I ruined an ATV transmission when I was in my teens from poor chain maintenance, lesson learned.

    • @kdcustoms1272
      @kdcustoms1272 Před 6 lety

      the chain popped off when I dumped the clutch in 2nd and wrapped around the front sprocket (I knew I needed a new chain but "I want to ride" lol) took an hour to get it out, only to have a clunk every time that tooth on 2nd gear came around.. I rode a month skipping 2nd then one day while I was shifting from 3rd to 1st the tranny completely locked up... thank god I wont riding alone lol... would of been a long walk.

    I had a 98 CR250 that I hated. It would headshake at high speed and the frame was so rigid that you felt everything. I traded it for a 95 CR500. Best trade ever!! I've heard this generation of the CR is alot better. How do they compare to the same years of YZ250? I have a 2003 YZ250 that I've rebuilt for my kid and they are generally considered the best mx bike for off-road use.

    Hey Kyle, i commented on the first video introducing this project and I’m in love with the whole thing. It looks amazing and i know you guys have been putting alot of effort into this build. I love the content you put out and like i said i REALLY want to get more into riding. Im at my moms house in idaho and she just got two new KLX 140 4 strokes and i love riding those up here on the single track but i would LOVE to have my own bike. I also want a 2 stroke because for one I’ve never rode one and two, from what I’ve heard from you and countless other people is once you ride a 2 stoke you never go back. I will do anything to get this bike. Thanks for all of the inspiration and i hope your ACL heals quick!!!

    2002 to 2007

    G'Day from Australia
    We are all time poor but more practical detail, less talking, would have me glued to the screen.
    A show of you guys fixing the bent radiator would be very watchable.
    You have a good channel and a bit more detail would make it a great channel.
    Simple and common sense oil/bearings/cable/tyres etc. will make this a nice bike to ride.
    Why don't you guys fly me over to guest on your show and I will ride the bike and evaluate:)
    All the best to our American brothers.

    My 03 CR 250, I prefer over my 18 300 XC-W. 18" rear wheel, TuBliss, Flywheel weight, Air Stryker carb,, IMS 3.1 gal tank. Once tuned right, it'll start first 1/2 kick, not even a full kick. You just can't beat the weight difference.
    The only downside was the 5speed tranny, which was easily made up with two different rear sprocket setups.

    I have to disagree on the suspension at least on the mx bikes. The XR's TTR's other trail bikes that have plush suspension that don't deflect off everything are gonna make it allot easier on new riders. So at least softening up the suspension should be mandatory on any mx bike learning to ride off-road.

    • @DirtBikeChannel

      We are setting this up for US to ride. I want to know how it compares to the modern bike I'm riding all the time.

    • @Trad-Am
      @Trad-Am Před 6 lety

      Dirt Bike Channel: If your comparing it to another mx bike in your stable it's still gonna be a good bike. However if your gonna compare it to one of your modern off-road bikes,its kind of apples to oranges with the stiff mx suspension. I'm by no means a great rider, but I have been riding for almost 40yrs. I've actually rode a early 2000's cr250r off-road and they do really beat on ya. That's not too say they can't be great off-road bikes, but the suspension definitely needs softened up. You can even get by with a strong clutch hand manipulating the aggressive mx power band, till you can get to the engine work. But the suspension is hard to get around.

    Hey man, im looking to pick up a 250x. I dont know if I want to go with a 250xc or a yz250x. I know you've rode both so I would love some opinion and what you thought about each bikes. Thanks

      Snickers he did full reviews on both.. Ive ridden both and to be honest if you have the cash get the pumkin, i own a 250x and love it, ive owned and rode yamahas my whole life and the 250x has been 100% reliable, ive put it through hell and it hasn't faltered once and build quality is awsome but... between the counter balanced crankshaft (which makes for 0 vibrations), the hydraulic clutch and the electric start.. my next bike is going to be a husky or ktm. Cheers.. hope this helps.

      LCP1988 yea it does, when I tried to find comparisons it was of the 300xc vs 250x which wasn’t the 250 so I wasn’t sure

      Snickers the 250x is a very fast machine tho, ive dragged my buddy a few times on his 2017 husky 300 and have beat him every time. The 250x feels very raw and snappy in comparison to those bike and that can be good and bad.

      Andrew Carpenter 546 front 752 cheater or gummy rear. I like the fatty front for rocks and roots in ohio.

    • @MrAshrr213
      @MrAshrr213 Před 6 lety +1

      markmtbrider It's actually a 525 cheater on the rear. To each their own on the fatty. I hated the fatty front, so I stick with the 90/90.

    • @markmtbrider
      @markmtbrider Před 6 lety +1

      Yep 525 cheater, the 505 doesn't hook up here. I let my bias for the old dunlop 752 slip in. Lol

      I hear you. On the other hand, it's easier said that done when you are doing this project long term over long distance. Scott is literally doing this in his free time (which he has very little of), and we live 1 hour and 45 minutes away from each other. Both of us have full time jobs with wives and 4 kids each. We also have community responsibilities demanding our time.
